Book Schackert Michael PeterScanning Tunneling Spectroscopy on Electron Boson Interactions in Superconductors

Download or read book Schackert Michael PeterScanning Tunneling Spectroscopy on Electron Boson Interactions in Superconductors written by Schackert, Michael Peter and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work describes the experimental study of electron-boson interactions in superconductors by means of inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy performed with a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) at temperatures below 1 K. This new approach allows the direct measurement of the Eliashberg function of conventional superconductors as demonstrated on lead (Pb) and niobium (Nb). Preparative experiments on unconventional iron-pnictides are presented in the end.

Book Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy of Topological Insulators and Cuprate Superconductors

Download or read book Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy of Topological Insulators and Cuprate Superconductors written by Michael Manchun Yee and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past twenty-five years, condensed matter physics has been developing materials with novel electronic characteristics for a wide range of future applications. Two research directions have shown particular promise: topological insulators, and high temperature copper based superconductors (cuprates). Topological insulators are a newly discovered class of materials that can be manipulated for spintronic or quantum computing devices. However there is a poor spectroscopic understanding of the current topological insulators and emerging topological insulator candidates. In cuprate superconductors, the challenge lies in raising the superconducting transition temperature to temperatures accessible in non-laboratory settings. This effort has been hampered by a poor understanding of the superconducting mechanism and its relationship with a mysterious pseudogap phase. In this thesis, I will describe experiments conducted on topological insulators and cuprate superconductors using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, which provide nanoscale spectroscopic information in these materials.

This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first edition of "Scanning 'funneling Microscopy I" has been pub lished, considerable progress has been made in the application of STM to the various classes of materials treated in this volume, most notably in the field of adsorbates and molecular systems. An update of the most recent develop ments will be given in an additional Chapter 9. The editors would like to thank all the contributors who have supplied up dating material, and those who have provided us with suggestions for further improvements. We also thank Springer-Verlag for the decision to publish this second edition in paperback, thereby making this book affordable for an even wider circle of readers. Hamburg, July 1994 R. Wiesendanger Preface to the First Edition Since its invention in 1981 by G. Binnig, H. Rohrer and coworkers at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has devel oped into an invaluable surface analytical technique allowing the investigation of real-space surface structures at the atomic level. The conceptual simplicity of the STM technique is startling: bringing a sharp needle to within a few Angstroms of the surface of a conducting sample and using the tunneling cur rent, which flows on application of a bias voltage, to sense the atomic and elec tronic surface structure with atomic resolution! Prior to 1981 considerable scepticism existed as to the practicability of this approach.

Book Elastic and Inelastic Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy on Iron Based Superconductors

Download or read book Elastic and Inelastic Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy on Iron Based Superconductors written by Jasmin Maria Jandke and published by Saint Philip Street Press. This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within this work, the pairing mechanism of conventional (Pb) and unconventional superconductors (SrFe2(As1-xPx )2, FeSe, FeSe/STO) was investigated experimentally by means of elastic and inelastic tunneling spectroscopy at temperatures down to 30 mK. The distinction between elastic and inelastic contributions to tunneling data was elaborated. The results help to identify conventional (phonon-mediated) and unconventional (e.g. spin-?uctuation mediated) superconductivity. Book Novel Superconductivity

Download or read book Novel Superconductivity written by Stuart A. Wolf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Novel Mechanisms of Superconductivity Conference was initially conceived in the early part of 1986 as a small, 2-1/2 day workshop of 40-70 scientists, both theorists and experimentalists interested in exploring the possible evidence for exotic, non phononic superconductivity. Of course, the historic discoveries of high temperature oxide superconductors by Bednorz and Mftller and the subsequent enhancements by the Houston/Alabama groups made such a small conference impractical. The conference necessarily had to expand, 2-1/2 days became 4-1/2 days and superconductivity in the high Tc oxides became the largest single topic in the workshop. In fact, this conference became the first major conference on this topic and thus, these proceedings are also the first maj or publication. However, heavy fermion, organic and low carrier concentration superconductors remained a very important part of this workshop and articles by the leaders in these fields are included in these proceedings. Ultimately the workshop hosted rearly 400 scientists, students and media including representatives from the maj or research groups in the U.S., Europe, Japan and the Soviet Union.
