Book SCAFFOLDING THE HANDBOOK FOR ESTIMATING and PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Download or read book SCAFFOLDING THE HANDBOOK FOR ESTIMATING and PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE written by Michael "Terry" Marks and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scaffolding is used in many industries every day, all over the world, in the construction industry; for commercial and industrial maintenance; the staging and entertainment markets; the shipbuilding industry; mining; industrial plants, including power plants; hydro and nuclear power facilities; pulp and paper plants; petrochemical plants; oil refineries; and offshore drilling rigs. This book serves as a guide to any person involved with scaffolding in any way so that they will have a training and reference book that they can refer to for both scaffolding product knowledge and for estimating. The first ten chapters of this book include historical data and background information including product knowledge on all types of built-up scaffolding, suspended cradles, and swingstages. The eleventh chapter of this book is dedicated to the procedures that are used for estimating; preparing proposals, bids, and contracts, including systematic instructions on how to calculate the formulas that are most commonly used for estimating materials and labour outputs for scaffolding. Additionally, there are several sections of this book dedicated to temporary enclosures, built-up shoring and falsework, as well as manual and motorized suspended swingstages and cradles. There are very few books available on these topics. To my knowledge there are none dedicated to product knowledge and the estimating of built-up scaffolding systems. No book can be all-inclusive, and this handbook does not claim to be. Much time and research has been put into this book to ensure that as many of the proven estimating methods and design concepts for all types of built-up and suspended scaffolding have been covered. Since one of our greatest assets in any business are our employees, the proper training of all craft and support staff within an industry is of primary importance. Additionally, the continuity in the training given to staff should always be kept up to a measurable standard and continually maintained to an acceptable level.

Book Scaffolding Young Writers

Download or read book Scaffolding Young Writers written by Linda J. Dorn and published by Stenhouse Publishers. This book was released on 2001 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of teaching writing is to create independent and self-motivated writers. When students write more often, they become better at writing. They acquire habits, skills, and strategies that enable them to learn more about the craft of writing. Yet they require the guidance and support of a more knowledgeable person who understands the writing process, the changes over time in writing development, and specific techniques and procedures for teaching writing. In Scaffolding Young Writers: A Writers' Workshop Approach, Linda J. Dorn and Carla Soffos present a clear road map for implementing writers' workshop in the primary grades. Adopting an apprenticeship approach, the authors show how explicit teaching, good models, clear demonstrations, established routines, assisted teaching followed by independent practice, and self-regulated learning are all fundamental in establishing a successful writers' workshop. There is a detailed chapter on organizing for writers' workshop, including materials, components, routines, and procedures. Other chapters provide explicit guidelines for designing productive mini-lessons and student conferences. Scaffolding Young Writers also features: an overview of how children become writers;analyses of students' samples according to informal and formal writing assessments;writing checklists, benchmark behaviors, and rubrics based on national standards;examples of teaching interactions during mini-lessons and writing conferences;illustrations of completed forms and checklists with detailed descriptions, and blank reproducible forms in the appendix for classroom use. Instruction is linked with assessment throughout the book, so that all teaching interactions are grounded in what children already know and what they need to know as they develop into independent writers.

Download or read book Educating in the Spirit written by Eric J. Kyle and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to address two struggles for "theistic educators" (e.g., those who approach their educational vocation from a religious perspective), whether they are working in secular or faith-based institutions. The first struggle is that, while numerous guidelines on teaching excellence have been compiled, the resulting checklists can contain more than a hundred criteria to consider. This book therefore identifies the evidence-based guidelines that are likely to have the highest impact on student achievement, thereby empowering educators to focus their efforts in more substantial ways. The second struggle is related to the lack of resources, which can help educators to view and approach their vocation from a theistic perspective. While there are texts that discuss the relationship of spirituality and/or theology to education, few to date have sought to bring evidence-based educational literature into dialogue with the western Christian tradition and thereby develop a "bottom-up" theology of education. This book addresses this historical and theological gap. Overall, this book is therefore intended to not only provide theistic educators with high-impact guidelines that can significantly improve the quality of education in their school systems, but it also strives to do so from a thoroughly theistic perspective.

Book The Knowledge Gap

  • Release : 2020-08-04
  • ISBN : 0735213569
  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book The Knowledge Gap written by Natalie Wexler and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The untold story of the root cause of America's education crisis--and the seemingly endless cycle of multigenerational poverty. It was only after years within the education reform movement that Natalie Wexler stumbled across a hidden explanation for our country's frustrating lack of progress when it comes to providing every child with a quality education. The problem wasn't one of the usual scapegoats: lazy teachers, shoddy facilities, lack of accountability. It was something no one was talking about: the elementary school curriculum's intense focus on decontextualized reading comprehension "skills" at the expense of actual knowledge. In the tradition of Dale Russakoff's The Prize and Dana Goldstein's The Teacher Wars, Wexler brings together history, research, and compelling characters to pull back the curtain on this fundamental flaw in our education system--one that fellow reformers, journalists, and policymakers have long overlooked, and of which the general public, including many parents, remains unaware. But The Knowledge Gap isn't just a story of what schools have gotten so wrong--it also follows innovative educators who are in the process of shedding their deeply ingrained habits, and describes the rewards that have come along: students who are not only excited to learn but are also acquiring the knowledge and vocabulary that will enable them to succeed. If we truly want to fix our education system and unlock the potential of our neediest children, we have no choice but to pay attention.
