Download or read book The Adorable Circle of Life written by and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Savage. Menacing. Ruthless. Predators get a pretty bad rap. Sure, they prey on helpless animals that never stand a chance, but behind those jagged teeth, powerful jaws, and razor-sharp claws, every predator has a softer side. Maybe even an adorable one. Everyone has compassion for the cute bunny or lamb. But what about their predators who are working hard for their meal? Capturing their prey is a life-or-death game. Just think about the last time you had to hunt for food while hangry. You can understand, right? Including famous quotes from history that give context to these disturbingly cute illustrations, Alex Solis shares his sense of humor while giving readers a way to enjoy the darkest parts of life with a smile. It’s time to give theses predators a break! Because, in the end, both predators and their prey play a role. I mean, it’s not their fault they were made this way! They’re just living off of instincts, doing what comes naturally to them. So rather than turning away from nature, let’s celebrate all the animals who complete The Adorable Circle of Life.

Download or read book Romans Barbarians and the Transformation of the Roman World written by Ralph W. Mathisen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant transformations of the Roman world in Late Antiquity was the integration of barbarian peoples into the social, cultural, religious, and political milieu of the Mediterranean world. The nature of these transformations was considered at the sixth biennial Shifting Frontiers in Late Antiquity Conference, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in March of 2005, and this volume presents an updated selection of the papers given on that occasion, complemented with a few others,. These 25 studies do much to break down old stereotypes about the cultural and social segregation of Roman and barbarian populations, and demonstrate that, contrary to the past orthodoxy, Romans and barbarians interacted in a multitude of ways, and it was not just barbarians who experienced "ethnogenesis" or cultural assimilation. The same Romans who disparaged barbarian behavior also adopted aspects of it in their everyday lives, providing graphic examples of the ambiguity and negotiation that characterized the integration of Romans and barbarians, a process that altered the concepts of identity of both populations. The resultant late antique polyethnic cultural world, with cultural frontiers between Romans and barbarians that became increasingly permeable in both directions, does much to help explain how the barbarian settlement of the west was accomplished with much less disruption than there might have been, and how barbarian populations were integrated seamlessly into the old Roman world.

Download or read book The Crusades and the Expansion of Catholic Christendom 1000 1714 written by John France and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-02-01 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crusades and the Expansion of Catholic Christendom, 1000-1714 is a fascinating and accessible survey that places the medieval Crusades in their European context, and examines, for the first time, their impact on European expansion. Taking a unique approach that focuses on the motivation behind the Crusades, John France chronologically examines the whole crusading movement, from the development of a ‘crusading impulse’ in the eleventh century through to an examination of the relationship between the Crusades and the imperialist imperatives of the early modern period. France provides a detailed examination of the first Crusade, the expansion and climax of crusading during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and the failure and fragmentation of such practices in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Concluding with an assessment of the influence of the Crusades across history, and replete with illustrations, maps, timelines, guides for further reading, and a detailed list of rulers across Europe and the Muslim world, this study provides students with an essential guide to a central aspect of medieval history.
Download or read book Talking with Psychopaths A Journey into the Evil Mind written by Christopher Berry-Dee and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, renowned criminologist Christopher Berry-Dee has interviewed imprisoned, infamous serial killers and now he peels back the curtain, engaging with the psychiatrists tasked to understand their deviant minds. As Berry-Dee dives deeper than ever before, he uncovers a disturbing pattern: the utter lack of remorse displayed by these individuals is often more horrifying than the crimes they’ve committed. Even more alarming, psychoanalysts admit that these murderers have an insidious ability to mask their true nature behind a facade of normalcy. Their behavior defies comprehension, even to the professionals who spend their livelihoods studying these aberrant minds. With gripping narrative and a wealth of research, Talking with Psychopaths: A Journey into the Evil Mind analyzes the darkest corners of the human brain. As Berry-Dee recounts his interviews, he exposes each layer of deception, seeking the best path to find the truth behind a psychopath’s mask.
