He owes a debt… Harland “Hothead” Carter, President of the Savage Bloods MC is a man of his word, so when an old friend calls in a favor, Harland can’t say no. More than their lives are at risk… When he learns she’s been targeted by a rival club, Harland’s got a lot more to worry about than just keeping her safe. As the sparks fly between Nicole and Harland, a war brews between the two opposing clubs. If he can’t find a way to keep the peace, he’ll lose everything that’s ever mattered to him.

Book Colonial Australian Women Poets

Download or read book Colonial Australian Women Poets written by Katie Hansord and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book traces the significant poetic and political contributions made by non-canonical women poets, situating women's poetry both in colonial Australian print culture and in wider imperial and transnational contexts. Women poets in colonial Australia have tended to be represented as marginal and isolated figures or absent. This study intervenes by demonstrating an alternative networked tradition of transnational feminist poetics and politics beyond and around emergent masculine nationalism, particularly within newspapers and periodical print culture. Without the inclusion of periodical literature, women’s poetry in Australia during the colonial period would appear to have been fairly limited. When periodical literature is taken into account, this picture is radically altered, and poets emerge as consistent contributors, often across a variety of newspapers and journals, who were well-known, influential and connected with political figures and literary circles. In examining this poetry in the original context of the newspapers and journals, the political intervention and the reception of that poetry is made much more apparent.

Book Difference of a Different Kind

Download or read book Difference of a Different Kind written by Iris Idelson-Shein and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2014-04-02 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European Jews, argues Iris Idelson-Shein, occupied a particular place in the development of modern racial discourse during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Simultaneously inhabitants and outsiders in Europe, considered both foreign and familiar, Jews adopted a complex perspective on otherness and race. Often themselves the objects of anthropological scrutiny, they internalized, adapted, and revised the emerging discourse of racial difference to meet their own ends. Difference of a Different Kind explores Jewish perceptions and representations of otherness during the formative period in the history of racial thought. Drawing on a wide range of sources, including philosophical and scientific works, halakhic literature, and folktales, Idelson-Shein unfolds the myriad ways in which eighteenth-century Jews imagined the "exotic Other" and how the evolving discourse of racial difference played into the construction of their own identities. Difference of a Different Kind offers an invaluable view into the ways new religious, cultural, and racial identities were imagined and formed at the outset of modernity.

Book A Revised Poetry of Western Philosophy

Download or read book A Revised Poetry of Western Philosophy written by Daniel Grandbois and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bertrand Russell finds himself in purgatory, tumbling through literal representations of the worlds of ideas he examined in his classic text, A History of Western Philosophy, gulping much-needed air, for example, from Empedocles' bucket. Mistaking his erection for a planted flag, he declares the place Platonopolis, attempts to calculate his Pythagorean number, kills God (though he later sees evidence of His resurrection), and, Rousseau-like, turns away from reason and civilization, favoring the noble savage, only to march back into the concrete jungle as one of Nietzsche's savage nobles. In the end, however, he is all jumbled up and clucking like Einstein's cuckoo clock, until he perceives philosophy as music, hears its arguments as a symphonic procession of the electrochemical pulses produced within three-pound lumps—lumps self-amalgamated from the vomitus of stars—and revises his History.
