A FOOD NETWORK BEST COOKBOOK OF THE YEAR From the time she was old enough to hold a fork, Ava has been at Alex’s side in the kitchen, whether eating lusciously cheesy gnocchi at Alex’s New York City restaurant, Butter, or making classic French omelets with her famous Iron Chef mom. Through seventy-five witty and informative recipes, Alex and Ava share a repertoire of dishes that define their modern family meals: bold flavored, comforting, satisfying, and always supremely delicious. Side by side, they cook their way through family favorites like Blueberry Pie from Alex’s mom, a legendary cookbook editor, and Nanny Ida’s Crisp Potato Latkes. Tips and notes offer great cooking advice for achieving the fluffiest frittatas (add water, never milk) and how to season and mix meatballs so they always stay juicy (spread the mixture up around the sides of the bowl and then season). There’s even a bonus recipe for dog biscuits, inspired by Alex and Ava’s family dog, Leon! Cooking with authority is learned and earned in this smart and joyous cookbook that celebrates a mother-daughter bond that’s stronger than the even the most garlicky garlic bread (the secret is—surprise—lots of shallots!).

Book The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion Cooking Manual

Download or read book The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion Cooking Manual written by Frank Castronovo and published by Artisan Books. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Brooklyn's sizzling restaurant scene, the hottest cookbook of the season... From urban singles to families with kids, local residents to the Hollywood set, everyone flocks to Frankies Spuntino—a tin-ceilinged, brick-walled restaurant in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens—for food that is "completely satisfying" (wrote Frank Bruni in The New York Times). The two Franks, both veterans of gourmet kitchens, created a menu filled with new classics: Italian American comfort food re-imagined with great ingredients and greenmarket sides. This witty cookbook, with its gilded edges and embossed cover, may look old-fashioned, but the recipes are just we want to eat now. The entire Frankies menu is adapted here for the home cook—from small bites including Cremini Mushroom and Truffle Oil Crostini, to such salads as Escarole with Sliced Onion & Walnuts, to hearty main dishes including homemade Cavatelli with Hot Sausage & Browned Butter. With shortcuts and insider tricks gleaned from years in gourmet kitchens, easy tutorials on making fresh pasta or tying braciola, and an amusing discourse on Brooklyn-style Sunday "sauce" (ragu), The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion & Kitchen Manual will seduce both experienced home cooks and a younger audience that is newer to the kitchen.

Book The Cooking Caveman How to Lose Weight Eat Healthy Create Mouthwatering Paleo Recipes and Piss Off All Your Friends

Download or read book The Cooking Caveman How to Lose Weight Eat Healthy Create Mouthwatering Paleo Recipes and Piss Off All Your Friends written by Jeff Nimoy and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-11-19 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that cavemen didn’t have cancer? They didn’t have heart disease either. Nor did they have diabetes. They didn’t even have tooth decay! Yeah, I didn’t know that shit either. My first question was, “How do ‘they’ know?” But they know. This isn’t a book about archeology or anthropology, so you’ll have to look up that research on your own, you lazy bastards. This is a book on how what many people perceive to be a “fad” diet transformed me into a healthy, skinny, ripped human machine, without much exercise at all. “Too good to be true,” you ask? “What’s this jerk-wad trying to sell me? What do I have to do, read his book, and then buy the diet plan (sold separately) to get his secret? What a rip-off artist!” Nope, nothing to buy (except this book, you cheap bastards) because I found the diet all by myself on the Internet, free of charge! There are several books out there on the Caveman Diet, also known as the Paleo Diet, but it’s so simple (a caveman could do it), and there’s so much info out there, I think those books are a rip-off. Now my next cookbook, that’s a different story altogether! Get those credit cards ready, you fat bastards, I’ve already started on my second book! You’re about to read how I, a lowly Emmy Award-winning writer/producer/voice actor/director, accidentally stumbled upon the Caveman Diet, and how it transformed my body, my mind, and my spirit, and in doing so alienated me from almost everyone! It limited the ingredients I could eat yet sparked my creativity and made me into a pretty amazing cook, if I do say so myself (’cause I certainly wasn’t when I started). Healthy eating and dieting does not mean deprivation. I promise you, if I can do this, anyone can do this. It just takes a commitment to change for the better. I am in the best shape of my life, rarely exercise, and I eat LIKE A KING!
