Book Satellite Data Application in Aviation Weather Forecast

Download or read book Satellite Data Application in Aviation Weather Forecast written by Mahmood Suleiman and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a given location at a given time. This research work investigated the effect of wind and cloud over Nigeria's two seasons and how it affects flight operations. For the dry season, the data used was cloud imagery of three days (8th, 9th, 10th of December 2010), the atmosphere been dry and stable does not support cloud formation. All air crafts flying over Nigeria will enjoy clear skies. No significant cloud cover and good visibility will be experienced . For the wet season, both wind and cloud imagery were analyzed for three days (4th, 5th, and 6th, of August 2011). Wind at FL180 was entirely North-Easterlies wind throughout with light wind, which does not have any severe effect either flying head wind, tail wind or cross wind. Low clouds which are predominant during the wet season and associated with bad weather makes the pilots and flight operation personnel have it in mind on the possibilities of meeting low cloud en-route during the wet season.

Book Radar and Satellite Weather Interpretation for Pilots

Download or read book Radar and Satellite Weather Interpretation for Pilots written by Terry T. Lankford and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2002 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UTILIZE THE LATEST ADVANCES IN SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGING FOR SMOOTH, SAFE FLIGHT OPERATIONS Recent breakthroughs in radar and satellite imaging and communications technology have put a tremendous amount of potentially life-saving weather-related data at a pilot's disposal. This heavily-illustrated, expertly written resource explains how to obtain, interpret, and effectively apply all this information. "Radar & Satellite Weather Interpretation For Pilots" thoroughly describes the usefulness - as well as limitations - of radar and satellite imaging in flight planning and operations and offers in-depth coverage of key topics such as: * Geographical Features * Weather Features * Interpretation and Application * Maps and Codes * Equipment Reviews * Lightning Detection Equipment * Image Illustrations * Flight Planning Strategies * Risk Evaluation * And more You'll also find reference information and maps to help plot radar locations and lists to decode location identifiers. Although "Radar & Satellite Weather Interpretation for Pilots" includes an in-depth review of satellite and weather radar fundamentals as applied to flight, it is far more than a collection of facts - it is a working tool that teaches pilots solid decision-making and risk assessment skills. The author, who is a former FAA Weather Specialist and a consultant for NASA includes valuable case study examples of misinterpretation and prevention techniques as well as actual weather scenarios used to apply flight planning strategies. If you are looking for clear and up-to-date information on satellite and radar weather interpretations for flight operations, your search ends here.

Book The Role of Operational Satellites in the Aviation Weather System

Download or read book The Role of Operational Satellites in the Aviation Weather System written by C. L. Bristor and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current operational weather satellite capabilities are briefly reviewed and then projected into the 1980s in terms of their potential impact on the Aviation Weather System (AWES). The role of geostationary satellites is emphasized. On the basis of near term commitments and on planning already underway toward further developments in the late 1980s, one can project important growth in such impact. Developmental factors include: improved sensing in more spectral channels at higher space-time resolution; progress in the extraction of quantitative observables from basic digital sensor data; increased attention to the needs of the very short range weather 'nowcaster'; and technological advances which offer more cost-effective means for display and assimilation of satellite data into AWES. Specific recommendations are made. (Author).
