Book excerpt: Everybody does it; everybody has to do it; everybody has to live through it. Whether you're born of wealth or into poverty, you cannot avoid it! Work, as in going to work, that's it. Work, it's the crux of the matter for those who live on Earth. Today, most toil at jobs in modern office buildings with computers and gadgets to process and transmit digitized information. Who do we work for? In one way or another, for major corporations that control all. We workers are specs in the system. Our lives are consumed in that system. That's why we need to take a closer at what the job means. Who is your boss? Who are your co-workers? How do you fit in? What is the significance for you? How does it all relate? The poetry collection explores this world from a personal angle. Hopefully, it'll make you reflect. That's the goal anyway. Here is a portion of one of the poems: ***BAD SURROUNDING, GOOD GUY*** Not good people, but good guy, place where I work, not good people, but good guy. He, him, slightly befuddled gent, trying to do the right thing in a wrong situation, he, gent, the man with the beard, attempting to right the wrongs of a wrong place of employment. He, the good guy in the bad place, defined, good heart, seeking justice, plain without motivation of self, helping when help is needed, him, the good guy restoring faith in a place, department, without face.

Book Scholastic Carcinogens Pickled Stored in Pernicious Poisoned Bottles

Download or read book Scholastic Carcinogens Pickled Stored in Pernicious Poisoned Bottles written by Elias Sassoon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This poetry collection begins in high school, but ends somewhere in life. It begins with this: “Experiences as a Substitute Teacher. Public high school of higher education but never higher than God. Sitting there, the pedagogue without authority real. Never seeking the real authority. Time. Taking attendance. Giving assignments. Sitting there. Looking up at the ceiling, Sitting there. Students sit. Ignore. Time goes. Sitting there, students. Past and present. Sitting there. Writing the poems of the displaced, poems of: The tired, The bored, The alienated, The dysfunctional. Alienated. Alternative to bitterness complete.” Another poem: “Barbed wire. Invention of meticulous quality superimposed upon placid fallacies that move the human spirit toward predestination theocracy. Barbed wire. Invented for? Cows out there in the pasture. Sheep. God. Humans. Barbed wire. Invented why? To keep out. To push out. To prevent. Barbed wire to have and to hold. Holding in ideas and various manifestations of grandeur. Barbed. Painful. Hurtful. Circling in an enclosure. Enclosing the heart's desire to run through the meadows chasing beautiful naked maidens with pitch forks. Sharp. Quick. Ouch. Hurtful pain. Wiring but not of the teeth or the jaw or the bones. Barbed. To inflict remorse. To inflict puncturing of the outer layer. Visions of the mind.” And finally, this: “Sick and dying and falling to pieces. Mentally dispatching the mental. Physically watching the flesh tones turn to white ash. Others. Your next. Mental dismemberment. Skin turning shades of uncommon disease. Next. Pain and suffering. Next. Your turn. Next. Who's next in line? Next. Pieces falling away. Clutching to the earth falling away. Inevitable manifestations of mortality. Next. Trick of the Maker towards the creatures He made. Maker like a set designer on a Hollywood sound stage.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than write a formal memoir, I have created a series of poems that encapsulate my life in thought and body. The collection is a personal discourse with people known during my life, as well as my reflections on self and the world outside my body. I devised predetermined chapters. When a poem came to me, I placed it, banged it out, and randomly moved on to the next. This way, I was able to complete hundreds of poems relatively quickly. Here are the finalized chapters: Familiar In The Family; Relations Had Without Relations; Worldly Issues. Soulful Conceptions; Autobiographical Bits Of Flesh; Older Aging Insights; Natural World Incinerations; Jazz In The Words; Moments In Time; Places In The Mind. While I attempted to be as inclusive as possible, I fell short. The effort to incorporate every moment of proved too difficult. Still I am proud of the attempt and I do think I managed to capture the essence of my entire existence. Enjoy the poems.

Download or read book Strumming Through Middle Age written by Elias Sassoon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So what's middle age anyway except a state of mind that some struggle to get through and overcome. Here's a collection of poems that deals with the everything that come with it. The book opens with: STRUMMING THROUGH MIDDLE AGE: Strumming as in humming, humming as in thumbing, thumbing as in reclining through life without the will to sit up. Passing shapes, passing figures, stick figures, strumming by, running by. Running? Really running, not strumming. Man on your left, lady on your right, running. Gone today, gone tomorrow. Whose strumming now? Me, you, him? Whose humming, me, you, him? Whose doing anything? Me, you, him? Who cares, don't care, fail to care. So strumming, running, humming, strumming, through, life, and, failing to care, bare, or witness the stare, failing to care and strumming.

This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of poems tied together into an epic that readers may find puzzling. A combination of mystical elements merged with the surreal, combined with the historical, mixed with the philosophical. The attempt has been made to explore our world and the solar system's above us that accomplishes this using an out of body experience that makes us into spiritual Peeping Toms. As the collection proceeds the main spirit (or, you may call it the main character) evolves from a benign being who acts as the observer into a major dictator of historical events and personalities from the past to the present with the goal of transforming the living world into a dream worthy of paradise. The style used here is a combination of American BEAT suffused with American jazz that is inoculated with eastern Sufism and blended into a freestyle and freewheeling mix. The writing never pretends to obey the verdicts of English grammar or the movement of proper composition that comes out of the Victorian age. In the view of this author, life is too short to worry about the conventions that are based on time-tested models that have tarnished in the hot sun over centuries.. Instead of conventions that dictate, the write just has to feel it, do it, play it, paint it as dictated by the soul. This I have tried mercifully to do.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Short stories or character studies? Fiction or non-fiction? This collection of pieces is a combination of all these elements. It does not pretend to tell the classic tale of romance or mystery. It does not provide a twist ending. It does not seek to entertain and provide moments of escapism for a reader burdened by a world that is burdensome. The stories simply attempt to look at the inner workings of ordinary individuals to show that human beings are complex organisms that each carry converging ideas and emotions and different storylines buried deep inside themselves. The themes presented in this way include: happiness and sadness, depression, repression, paranoia, insanity, ruthlessness, shame, pity, intelligence, domination, even social justice and injustice. Look closely at the person who sits beside you at the dinner table or on the train or at the job and what you will find are twisted tales that largely go unspoken. That is what this book of four character stories hopefully uncovers, the individual stories beneath the exterior expression that reveals little. In the end, we can understand the complexities of ourselves in relation to one another and the world about us.

Poems, word associations that are supposed to associate the physical and mental with the act of living in a world that is in a solar system that is part of a universe that we can never imagine. Poems, what types? Love poems with creamy insides, poems of longing with caramel outsiders; poems of regret basted in citric acid; poems of guilt punctured by rusted, metal daggers, poems of all sorts, yes. Here is just onme of them: Wind In Life, Pushing, Shoving & Breaking Bread In the air, atmosphere Banging against the skin, my skin Wind, piercing, ripping, taming Smashing you. Smashing You. Smashing humanity that is you. Wind, in my name The Lord's name The one lord or the many lords Banging away Ripping away Tearing away everything but the soul of the original one. In the air Atmosphere - SASSOON AS AN OBSERVER OF THE UNIVERSE

Book Poems of a Costa Rican Castaway

Download or read book Poems of a Costa Rican Castaway written by Elias Sassoon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This poetry collection originates from a tour taken to the Central American country of Costa Rica. Instead of doing the usual tourist thing and snapping pictures, I carried a spiral notebook and ball point pen and jotted down impressions in poetic form as I went. The poems that resulted encompass people, places and things, though not intended as a detailed travelogue. What you will get is another perspective on the philosophy and business of travel, the types of tourists that participate in it, and the people that lead it.

Book The Burning Cauldron and Working Towards Death

Download or read book The Burning Cauldron and Working Towards Death written by Elias Sassoon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Burning Cauldron & Working Towards Death are two essays that philosophically delve into the inner world of one character's contorted thoughts. Here are a few excerpts: ....What's this book about? Not into judgment even based on scientific observation. Anyway, not sure what anything is or is supposed to be. Just know that the book is not an entertaining story of between two hundred and a thousand pages that is only a cracked mirror held up to the human soul and found wanting. The book is just a string of words that seek to instruct, to lead, to influence and take you into the world of false illusions. The genre used? Philosophy, history, sociology, autobiography and everything in between. The moral of the story then, the need to define leads us only to confine. ....What do I care about appearances anymore? At my age, it doesn't matter. Who the hell are they to judge? It's all passing. You die. I die. Appearances die. Simple. We all know that, yet cling to the inanity of trying to please and setting value by their values. ....Defining self. Long winded. Defining self more. Oblivious, not aware of the outside world of adults. Me, aware of sensation only, relating only to what I can touch and feel; biological necessities. Adults betray me. Too serious; don't enjoy themselves; always worrying about money. Kids are different. No constraints or hidden thoughts or meanings. Autobiography right there. ....Love the concept of wishing. It's the idea of creation of a world all your own. How many hours have I spent alone wishing an ideal into existence. You can shape the world the way you want it. You are what you think and keep others out. You are the great gatekeeper. Thus, the negative, the cruel, the hurtful can be banished. ....It's been written millions of times by other writers, but so what, here it is. Must I live my life to avoid what's been done previous to my birth. Should I stop eating and defecating because it has been done trillions of times before by others? No. My motto then, do as you wish, wish as you do.

Book excerpt: You are born, live, and die. Sometimes, though, it isn't that simple. Life loops. Somebody once told me, you're born an infant, dependent for your sustenance e on others. Grow old, you revert to infancy. You have to be fed, diapered, washed and put to sleep. It's true, but not written in stone. Not all of us live to old age. Some die young with their complete mental and physical faculties intact. Others live long lives in relatively good health until the end. Not all become mentally and physically infirm. Yet, many do. Old age, what comes with it? Think of hospitals, nursing care, doctors, psychologists, clinical social workers, physical rehabilitation specialists, health care aides, rest homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, think of the panorama of institutions and institutional faces that await in all shapes and sizes. Experts appear from everywhere with their diagnoses and are followed by a myriad of medical foot soldiers poking and prodding. Bills for services are everywhere too, bills for thousands and hundreds of thousands spewed out in every direction. Confusion for the family. What to do? Who to trust? How to afford? Action. Determination. Institutionalization! How to tell their loved one? Questions, worries, dilemmas! Legal issues. A Power of Attorney? A Will? Property. Which of the siblings, aunts, uncles or cousins make the final decisions? Which makes the financial decisions? Which makes the ethical decisions? Fights. Greed. Lawyers. Courts. A person does not grow old in a vacuum. There's a universe that surrounds their aging. What becomes of the them in the end was written long before. In the case of the old woman, Eloise Tarikie, that life has been constructed along a dysfunctional foundation. That's the tragedy. Can Eloise end be anything but a dysfunctional representation of her life? The novel explores that and examines the problematic family she constructed about hers. If you take a good look, you may be surprised. You may be eyeing yourself and be shocked by what you discover.

Book Menopausal Musings and Other Stories

Download or read book Menopausal Musings and Other Stories written by Elias Sassoon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-03-16 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Menopausal Musings is a collection of small novellas. Each novella follows the inner world of one character's contorted thoughts as they cope with the crisis of middle age. We observe these afflicted people as they exist at different times of day. All are urban characters who live alone in New York City. All are trapped within the walls of their apartments and trapped in their minds and unable to escape. We listen and observe as their minds twirl with hopes, dreams, bitterness, and anger. We cringe as we watch their souls cringe because of isolation from family, friends, and the rest of humanity. They're humans set adrift in a unforgiving world with its billions of unmarked faces. Yet, their pain is our pain; their longing is our longing. And, that's the point. Here is a short sample from the opening of the first novella:“Moving about, a man walking to work and thinking. I am that man, an American prince from the town of New York, as in the City of New York, New York, the factory of dreams, the factory of liquid detergent that is distributed to the proverbial masses. My name, Mark Mansur, my persona, ordinary yokel, perhaps a common Joe, or perhaps a man about town without a town. Really though, and really or reality is the word, I am just a jerk from the suburbs who makes his money in the big, long-lost city surrounded by Hudson's waterway and the Atlantic Ocean of oceans.” – THUS OPENS ONE NOVELLA IN THE COLLECTION.

Book excerpt: This is a collection of stories that span a great portion of my life, and in fact, show the changes in the way I think. What changes? I have gone from an stiff academic, literary type, devoted to high-mind ideals that provided my fiction with a bit of the bizarre and uncomfortable to today's writer who looks at the fundamentals and hypocrisy of life lived around me and comments on them in short story form. What has not changed, however, is the philosophy behind the fiction, the essential pursuit of the individual and the individual's right to exist outside the scope of the collective mentality and the abstractions it creates to govern the masses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection follows an extraordinary individual, my father. A complex man who exhibited brilliance within a dark cosmos of bitterness and cynicism. His family came to America from Aleppo, Syria in the early 20th century seeking economic freedom. In Syria, they were poor. A chaotic political environment caused by a world war, the defeat of the ruling Turks and the occupation by the French drove them.. Within the upheaval, my father was born. He was every bit the Arab wrapped in a package of a Jew. A lover of Arab culture, music, language, and foods, he was still a Jew bound to defend the Jewish world against the Arab nations lined up against it. His life was made harder by the poverty and lack of education he experienced. His parents only knew Arabic, were illiterate and dependent on government relief; they lived in a tenement walkup above a grocery store Brooklyn. The six children left school in their pre-teens to support the family. This doomed my father and created resentment. 'Dumb Syrians' he would call his parents. This lead to menial jobs in factories doing work for which he was unsuited (a thin-frame man who suffered curvature of the back from an old injury). Bitter, yes. The bitterness pill was inherited from his mother. The daughter of Elias Sassoon, a wealthy merchant and doctor from Isfahan, Iran who immigrated to Syria with his wife and three girls, she felt cheated when her father, Elias would take a second wife (polygamy was legal) and have male children who would inherit the family fortune and carry it to America. My father's mother would marry a poor, illiterate Syrian. That was never forgotten. The resentment passed to my father. Mother and son could be heard ranting about what their fate and what was done to them. Allah had played a trick and was laughing down on them, an evil Allah. The poetry collections attempts to clarify a life that remains a puzzle to the son of a bitter and perplexing father. Whether that effort succeeds or not is up to the reader to determine.

Book excerpt: John Nat not your typical young, angry American neo-Nazi. A hater, yes, turned criminal, yes, but his complexity runs deeper. John Nat is more than a fascist or anarchist,; he's a nihilist with pretensions. That separates him from the others, and makes him more dangerous. He commits abominations while leaving the reader wondering why. A wild teen whose behavior may be a roadmap to the inconsistencies of the twenty-first century, he's best understood by quoting John Nat's own words.“Hazy and cloudy, or maybe shadowy and dark, the blackness of black which is akin to the whiteness of white. Interesting. Do you see it, can you see the basic premises of good and evil, the basic substances, that is? What is the universe composed of except putrid pieces of rotting crud thrown together by the empty ones, the one who seek only suppression of what could be a beautiful cosmos? I have all these mothers, the walking bones that seek to imprison me in the fortress of their decadent world. I can see them because I am the Savior of Saviors and will unite my spirit with the power of the sword. I can see through the shadows of it all and all their pretensions. I cannot be fooled or bought or paid for; I cannot be quieted. I am too much the walking genius. I am lovely, a sweet piece of humanity in a humanity that is empty of all.” …. “Nazis, I love these people, all of them, sweet and they understand the true realities of life and not the rest of the bullshit. I like the way they never listened to bullshit. They just took what they wanted and read through it all and it all is crap. Most things are garbage, I know that, but I also know that the only way to deal with garbage is to eliminate it; get a flamethrower and burn it all away, the garbage and the floor beneath the garbage. That's right man, right as I always am.”

Book excerpt: A novel that isn't; a novel that is the rambling of a man exhibiting the symptoms of a hashish haze. That's what we have. We also have an opportunity to dig into an individual's psyche and view all its quirks. The human mind, it's a fertile area of action that isn't real. What does that mean? Sometimes, the action hero is merely the neurotic sitting alone analyzing every idea and movement. That's what we have in our story. Here's a short excerpt: .."..Looking at myself in the mirror, eying the face. Ugly looking bastard, at least to me. Like to be alone and view the sight in the mirror. Backwards I can go, eying, making faces, grabbing my nose, twisting it, looking for the hidden reality. Is this vain? Is this boredom? Why do I do this? Why do I do anything. I want to impress others with my looks. I want to be noticed. I want women to whisper how attractive I am, how they want to possess and cherish me. I want to be raised on a pedestal because of my appearance. That's why the mirror is my friend; that's why I am the mirror. Inventing, why was it invented? So monkeys like us could eye and concentrate the exterior. Eying ourselves in pictures, videos, the obsession we don't ever discuss. Eying with the eye, the eye created by who for what purpose? The eye, catching the sights but the sounds, catching the overall but not the particular. I'm sick of it, sick of people, sick of people and their mirrors."

What is nature to him, which he seeks to vanquish anyway, vanquish all with the exception of electric current, that is, vanquish all also with the exception of chemical equations shaped to serve the master, man, Lord of the Universe. There's only envy of the universe and thoughts of final conquest. So full of himself, this technocrat Robert Baydah. The goal is to ensure exchange between a solar system of devices and then drive their data into the terabyte region of human existence. Baydah stands behind it until the night heaven calls. Then, everything changes.
