Book Broken I was just five years old when my father abused me and robbed me of my childhood This is my true story of how I never gave up on hope and happiness

Download or read book Broken I was just five years old when my father abused me and robbed me of my childhood This is my true story of how I never gave up on hope and happiness written by Sara Davies and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-06 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sara Davies' story is one of abuse, neglect, betrayal and, ultimately, survival. When she was just 5 years old, her violent father began to sexually abuse her. She suffered in silence for many years, as her father took advantage of her innocence and her mother turned a blind eye to the horrors that were taking place in her own home. It was only when Sara found the courage to tell her mother what had happened that the truth about the trauma and abuse she had suffered came out. In an attempt to rebuild her life, as a teenager, Sara became a model but even this choice was to lead to more misery when she discovered that the agency had been drugging and abusing her. Despite the horrors that Sara has endured, she has survived and, partly by telling her story, has overcome the past to re-build her life.

Book excerpt: Subtitle: From an abusive childhood and the depths of suicidal despair to a life of hope and freedom Sarah Shaw looked in control of her life. She had a successful career as a manager in retail business. But she came to a point when she could no longer keep up appearances, by controlling her tormented inner world. So explosive was her inner pain, and so damaged was she by the consequences of childhood abuse, that she was eventually put on a lifetime's incapacity benefit. Her consultant psychiatrist was at a loss how to help. This story is not, however, about the horrors of abuse, but is an extraordinary testimony to the triumph of God's healing love. The author writes: "So many abused, hurting people don't understand their brokenness. They are stuck, as I was, in the tormenting symptoms of guilt, self-hatred, multiple fears, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, eating disorders, self-harming and suicidal tendencies. The book gives insights into the Christian healing ministry I received and offers hope to victims of abuse, without negating the reality of the desperate inner conflicts and struggles." "This remarkable book is about true recovery of health by a deeply wronged woman, whom I met more than ten years ago. Rarely is this subject written about, and even more uncommonly in Sarah's calm and thoughtful way." Dr Geoff Searle MBBS. BSc. FRCPsych (Sarah's Pychiatrist) "A profound and moving story - it struck me that despite such harrowing experiences the human spirit can be so resilient and triumphant." Dr Adrian Hutchings MBBS. (Sarah's GP) "So many people around the world have been abused, and often their pain is muffled by secrecy. Thankfully the woman who wrote this book has decided to expose her pain to the light of Jesus Christ. By doing so she has found total healing - and I believe her decision to share her painful secret with the world will help many other abused people find complete emotional recovery." J. Lee Grady - Editor, Charisma Magazine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrified. How I survived and recovered from an abusive childhoodSome of the names have been removed to protect the guiltyPrefaceI want to say here that I personally know many people who as children have suffered unbelievable physical abuse by their abusers'. My story is more about complete control over a child's mind by using physical, psychological, emotional, mental, sexual, and religious abuse. I spent most of my childhood in terror. When the abuse stopped, I took over and continually self destructed. It would take years to unlearn that defeatist attitude and become a happy person. The original title was “Screaming Quietly”, but there is so much more a child will do to endure an abusive childhood. Part One ChildhoodI was in bed. I had been tossing and turning for hours. I was having trouble going to sleep, as usual. They turned off the lights and the TV to go to bed upstairs. They usually did this around 11:00 pm. She would put us in bed at 8:00 and I would toss and turn in bed for hours before I could go to sleep. The house felt dark and spooky. Everything was quiet. I heard them go upstairs. Suddenly fear gripped me. Anxiety hit. I was near panic. I don't like dark, quiet rooms. I felt alone. Then, I began to cry. I was afraid and needed reassurance. Nobody could hear me. I cried a little louder. She heard me. I heard those heavy footsteps coming back down the stairs. I became conflicted. Is she going to comfort me? The footsteps got closer and sounded angry. Oh my God, I have made a terrible mistake. I felt the anger coming towards me. If only I could take it back. I'm sorry, I'll be good. I'll be frightened more quietly. Please God, no! My bedroom door opened. The monster was in my room heading for me. She hit me. She hit me again, and again and again. She kept on hitting me. My fear was replaced by anger. I wanted comfort and had been given pain instead. Once again I had made trouble for myself. When she left the room, out of my mouth I whispered these words: “I hate her, I want to kill her”. My teeth were clenched, my anger was intense. It consumed me. I had been through this so many times before. I was six.

Book excerpt: SARAH is based on the true-life story of my mother. Sarah's story is the second book in the Sewards family memoirs. The first book, Rachel: A Life Interrupted is based on my grandmother's life story. When I wrote Rachel's memoir, I received many questions concerning Sarah. Rachel lived a very challenging life and Sarah was the child who supported Rachel steadfastly through Rachel's childbearing years. Children do not choose their birth parents or their environment. Just like Sarah, most children adjust and fight for survival; they use their best coping skills acquired from the family and their environment in their formative years. Sarah had a loving older sister and a charismatic father who gave her security, love, and confidence in her early years. A simple form of Christianity, her sister, and her father directed the decisions that secured her survival during the challenging periods of her young life. Follow Sarah's journey as she tries to break the cycles of poverty, missed education, and promiscuity. Sarah decided to break those cycles through faith, a stable family life, and steadfast determination. Could Sarah succeed?

Book Becoming One

Download or read book Becoming One written by Sarah E. Olson and published by Trilogy Publications. This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Books about Multiple Personality Disorder have usually been written by mental health professionals as texts or case studies. Now, in Becoming One, author Sarah Olson has allowed us the rare privilege of entering her internal world as she journeys from fragmentation to wholeness. Two little girls, the author and her sister, were routinely terrorized and assaulted over a period of years by a family friend. One grew up closed and withdrawn, the other angry and self-destructive. And, most painful of all, their common suffering resulted in estrangement from each other. Becoming One began as Olson's attempt to provide a written account of her memories for her sister as a possible means of reconciliation and family healing.Olson argues that Multiple Personality Disorder (recently re-christened Dissociative Identity Disorder), rather than being a form of insanity as is popularly believed, is actually a brilliant coping mechanism relied upon in the most desperate of circumstances. It is nearly universally associated with severe trauma suffered by very young children and reveals a highly creative, terrified young mind doing whatever needs to be done to survive in an untenable world. The author's courage and generosity in candidly sharing her remarkable experiences afford an invaluable understanding of the effects of severe childhood abuse, and provides important insights into the world of dissociation.Through selected journal writings, letters, and transcripts of recorded therapy sessions, she highlights the role psychotherapy played in her recovery. Here is at once a highly personal look into an individual life, the dynamics of a troubled family, and the healing power of the therapeuticprocess.
