Book The Saracen s Codex

Download or read book The Saracen s Codex written by Nader Akbari and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-17 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam today is one of the biggest challenges Europe is facing, not only because of the security issues caused by Islamic terrorism, but also because of the nonintegration policy of Muslim immigrants and communities, which, in the near future, will entangle European citizens in cultural conflicts within their own societies. Many non-Muslim European citizens and residents are sending the clear message to the Muslim communities that, in a modern twenty-first-century society, their Islamic and sharia way of thinking is unacceptable. Generation after generation, Muslims with their Muslim mentality systematically destroyed their own pre-Islamic cultures and civilizations, converted their countries into cultural wastelands without any hope of progress, all because they were forced or preferred to be Muslim. Massive Muslim immigration and the resulting fast-growing population has already started the same process in Europe and the rest of what we call the free world. We are living in the same Europe where the Renaissance put an end to the Inquisition and the rule of the Church, but today many do not realize that they are opening the way to a fascism called Islam that is many times more violent and inquisitorial than the practices of the medieval Christian Church.

Book Post Apartheid Same Sex Sexualities

Download or read book Post Apartheid Same Sex Sexualities written by Andy Carolin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how same-sex sexualities are represented in several post-apartheid South African cultural texts, drawing on a rich local archive of same-sex sexualities that includes recent fiction, drama, film, photography, and popular print culture. While the book situates these texts within the specific context of post-apartheid South Africa, it also looks outwards towards transnational connectivity and cultural flows. The author uses the idea of restlessness to refer to the uneven flow of cultural tropes, political sentiment, ideas, ideologies, and representational modes across geographical boundaries, across time and space, and between genres, presenting sexual cultures as simultaneously rooted and transnational. He focuses on how notions of race and gender, in the shadow of colonialism and apartheid, play out in the present and shape how sexualities are represented. This interdisciplinary book offers a conceptual entry point to several areas of study, including transnationalism, literary and cultural studies, critical race theory, gender and sexuality studies, and African studies, and will be of interest to students and researchers across these fields. Its inclusion of a range of textual genres extends its reach into visual culture, film and media studies, history, and politics.

Book Godefroi de Buillon

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jan Boyd Roberts
  • Publisher : University of Alabama Press
  • Release : 1996
  • ISBN : 9780817308551
  • Pages : 182 pages

Download or read book Godefroi de Buillon written by Jan Boyd Roberts and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Godefroi de Buillon is an edition of folios 1 through 60 of Paris, Biblioth?que Nationale, fonds fran?ais 781, a prose version of the Old French Crusade Cycle dating from the close of the 13th century. It includes the Beatrix version of the Naissance du Chevalier au Cygne, Le Chevalier au Cygne, Les Enfances Godefroi, La Chanson dÕAntioche, Les ChŽtifs, and La Chanson de JŽrusalem. It is of considerable interest for the history of French literature because it is apparently one of the earliest mises en prose, preceded perhaps only by Robert de BoronÕs prose Merlin. The author explicitly refers to his purpose: ÒlÕai commenchie sans rime pour lÕestore avoir plus abregiet et si me sanle que le rime est mout plaisans et mout bele mais mout est longue [I undertook it without rhyme to have it shorter, for it seems to me that rhyme is beautiful but very long]Ó (1:3-5). In fact, he has rendered the original verse into prose by two distinct methods. The Swan Knight branches of the Cycle are severely abbreviated. Collation with the verse texts is impossible; individual verses are only rarely identifiable. On the other hand, the more historically based branches are the product of an almost verse for line dŽrimage, more often than not by the simple elimination of the second hemistich, as well as the elimination of repetitive, descriptive, and affective passages.
