Book excerpt: A veteran Santa reveals heartwarming true stories and lessons from his twenty-year career spreading Christmas magic. With the holiday shopping season beginning earlier each year, more than ever. Americans are struggling to remember the true meaning of Christmas. And who better to deliver the gift of Christmas inspiration than a man who has spent the last two decades playing Santa? Sal Lizard was in his twenties when his beard and hair turned completely white. Today he appears everywhere from malls and parades to schools and hospitals. And— from his custom-made red velvet suits to the mistletoe that hangs from the rearview mirror in his Santa-mobile—he is Santa Claus three hundred and sixty-five days a year. In Being Santa Claus Sal reflects on his experiences with both children and adults including: Christmas magic is all around us: We don’t always see it, but it is there, shaping and enriching our lives. Sometimes you need to go that extra mile:Santa Claus is the one person who can’t even use a blizzard as an excuse not to honor his commitments, and Sal teaches adults the importance of always showing up for our children. Even a small child can make a big difference: Sal has met some impressive children over the years, and he’s learned that you don’t need to be a grown-up to make an impact on the world around you. In Being Santa Claus Sal shares these lessons, along with often heartwarming, occasionally heartbreaking, and sometimes downright hysterical stories from his twenty-year career as Santa.

For 364 days of the year, Santa and his best friend, Peppermint Bark, are inseparable. Santa’s fluffy white dog helps herd the reindeer, keep tabs on the elves, and check the list—twice. But though Peppermint Bark asks every Christmas, he never gets to join Santa on his sleigh ride around the world. Until the dog decides to stow away . . . When eight- and eleven-year-old Chris and Holly Kerstman discover a small white dog wedged in their chimney on Christmas morning, they can’t imagine where he came from, until he tells them. Peppermint Bark is unlike any dog they and Holly’s best friend, Ivy, have ever met: His breath smells of mint, faint jingle bells can be heard when he wags his tail, and he can talk! He tells the kids all about his secret sleigh ride and how he got accidentally left behind on their rooftop, but when it comes to answering the question of how he’ll get home to the North Pole, Peppermint Bark is stumped. It’s up to the kids to work together to get Peppermint Bark home before the last magical portal to the North Pole closes at midnight on Christmas Day. Book The Rhymes and Rhythms of My Life

Download or read book The Rhymes and Rhythms of My Life written by Naomi Tomlinson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-06-11 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of my poems are happy ones. I have always written to express my emotions or moods. The Reason For The Season was written, of course, to show the real reason we celebrate Christmas. Some think Home Again is sad. I wrote it after a visit with my brother to our old home place. I think we felt nostalgia rather than sadness. Our Matt was written mostly for his mother to express my feelings for this young man, who even in junior high showed a real compassion and friendliness for his young classmate who was confined to a wheelchair. I wrote In Passing after death of my first husband when I passed by the farm where we had lived. Snapshot was written after a similar experience. Tribute to Sandburg was written after a trip to Conemara. It put me in a contemplative mood because even though Sandburg had long been one of my favorites, I had known very little about his private life or family. I wrote A Poem Upon Demand in a playful mood when I could not think of one to fulfill as assignment at our writers club. I Saw You Last Night I wrote one morning after a dream. The Class Reunion was written for our Alumni Banquet. It has been a favorite of several of my classmates and of Bill Robinson, my favorite country editor. A Perfect Snow Day I wrote for my garden club after a big snow. I have enjoyed writing and sharing my poems with friends although I kept my poetry private for many years until my friend, Judy Goodspeed, encouraged me to attend writers club with her in 2002. Prior to this I attended two workshops at St. Simonds Island, Georgia, one in Lawton, Oklahoma, one in Abilene, Texas and several at East Central University at Ada, Oklahoma. Although my instructors were encouraging and some even suggested I should try to have some of them published, because I was so busy at other things, I just never did. It could also have been lack of courage. I hope those who choose to read my poems enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
