    Book Details:
  • Author : Pope Francis
  • Publisher : Ignatius Press
  • Release : 2015-11-30
  • ISBN : 1681496895
  • Pages : 123 pages

Download or read book On the Family written by Pope Francis and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pope Francis has often expressed his concern for the urgent pastoral needs of families in today's society. Underscoring that deep love and concern for the family, the Pope has spent many months speaking on this subject in his weekly Wednesday audience talks. This book is a collection of all of those talks about the family from Dec. 17, 2014 to Sept. 16, 2015. The Pope covers a wide variety of important subjects directly related to family life, speaking in his personal style that offers wisdom and practical insights for the modern family. His words are for families in general, and also directed to the important roles of all those specific persons who make up family life - husbands, wives, parents, children and grandparents. He emphasizes the deep crisis that the family and marriage are undergoing in the Western world, and says that the family is "a new mission field for the Church." He challenges families today to be witnesses to the world of love, fidelity, and service. Some of the specific topics his talks address include: the example of the Holy Family of Nazareth; transmitting the faith; educating the children; family prayer; complementarity of male and female; celebration in family life; mercy and forgiveness; dealing with illness and death; learning the value of work; poverty and economic struggles; evangelizing the culture, and much more. Throughout his addresses, the Holy Father especially emphasizes the primary role of God and faith in family life, and the crucial importance of regular family prayer to draw on God's grace for strength, love, joy and unity within the home. "The true joy which we experience in the family is not superficial; it does not come from material objects, from the fact that everything seems to be going well. . . . True joy comes from a profound harmony between persons, something which we all feel in our hearts." - Pope Francis

Book An Ethics of Mercy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Roger Burggraeve
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2016
  • ISBN : 9789042932876
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book An Ethics of Mercy written by Roger Burggraeve and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexual experimentation, living together, raising children outside of marriage, remarriage after divorce, and same-sex relationships... These behaviours have become common in the wider society as well as among Christians and Catholic Christians. Not only do they think and act differently than the official Church teaching, but they do so convinced that they are acting rightly. This challenges ethics to respond by what can be called an 'ethics of mercy', by meeting people where they are and helping them to grow towards the fullness of life and love. Such a pastoral and educational ethics of growth should dare to stand within the tension between what is desirable and what is attainable, without surrendering the 'pro-vocative' idea of conjugal covenant as the basis for the family. Mercy is needed not only after ethics but in ethics. In harmony with Pope Francis's plea for a 'gospel of mercy', this book seeks a middle way between merciless rigourism and relativising subjectivism. It proposes an ethics of redemption that accompanies people on their way to meaningful living and loving, grounded in a spirituality that springs from the salvation offered in Jesus.

Book Augustine and the Catechumenate

Download or read book Augustine and the Catechumenate written by William Harmless and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2014-12-30 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the most influential thinkers in Christian history, St. Augustine (354–430) had a flair for teaching and meditated deeply on the mysteries of the human heart. This study examines a little-known side of his career: his work as a teacher of candidates for baptism. ln the revised edition of this seminal book, both the text and notes have been revised to better reflect the state of contemporary scholarship on Augustine, liturgical studies, and the catechumenate, both ancient and modern. This edition also includes new findings from some of the recently discovered sermons of Augustine and incorporates new perspectives from recent research on early Christian biblical interpretation, debates on the Trinity, the evolution of the liturgy, and much more. This reconstruction of Augustine’s catechumenate provides fresh perspectives on the day-to-day life of the early church and on the vibrancy and eloquence of Augustine the preacher and teacher.

Book The Complete Works

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pseudo-Dionysius
  • Publisher : Digireads.com
  • Release : 2021-07-06
  • ISBN : 9781420973587
  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book The Complete Works written by Pseudo-Dionysius and published by Digireads.com. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known as the "Corpus Areopagiticum", this collection of works was falsely attributed by its author as being written by Dionysius the Areopagite, a first century AD Athenian convert of Paul the Apostle mentioned in Acts 17:34. Because of this erroneous attribution great attention was given by early Christian scholars, most notably the late 13th and early 14th century scholar Meister Eckhart. Sometime in the 15th century it came to light that this collection of works was most likely the work of some anonymous late 5th or early 6th century author, who has subsequently been referred to as Pseudo-Dionysius. While this reattribution has diminished the "Corpus Areopagiticum" importance in Christian literature the collection still holds an important interest among scholars because of a renewed interest in the huge impact of Dionysian thought on later Christian thought. Included in this collection is the complete "Corpus Areopagiticum", which includes the following individual works: "Divine Names", "Mystic Theology", "Heavenly Hierarchy", "Ecclesiastical Hierarchy", and "Letters of Dionysius the Areopagite". This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and follows the translations of John Parker.

Book New Perspectives in Iconology

Download or read book New Perspectives in Iconology written by Barbara Baert and published by ASP Editions. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors investigate how iconology as a field and method, which originated within art history, relates to recent developments in the Humanities such as Anthropology and Visual Studies. The main questions are: How has iconology evolved in the past decennia, could it incorporate Anthropology and Visual Studies towards a new science of images? How have new disciplines profited from iconology and how can they in turn inspire and/or reinvent iconology? These questions are addressed within a wide historical andgeographical scope, as we regard the tracing of pictorial meaning throughout time and space an essential characteristic of iconology.
