Book Healing and Transformation in Sandplay

Download or read book Healing and Transformation in Sandplay written by Ruth Ammann and published by Open Court Publishing. This book was released on 1991 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sandplay is a powerful method of psychotherapy, based on practical, creative modelling - literally a "hands-on" approach to healing the whole person. Sandplay has both diagnostic and therapeutic value, and is efficacious for adults and children. Since there are no preconceived ideas about "art" in sand, there is a wonderful freedom and flow in using sand creatively. This book focuses on the process of sandplay and how it works. Ammann's account draws upon her wide knowledge of myth and folk tale, but remains a practical work, dealing systematically with the "how-to" details, the necessary role of sand pictures in enhancing the self-regulation of the psyche, the two routes from psyche to sand pictures, and the symbolic interpretation of spatial phenomena. Ammann illustrates these principles in several case histories. "Healing and Transformation in Sandplay" contains a plea to therapists to make greater use of sandplay, alongside classical dream analysis. As a means to liberate the forces of the brain's right hemisphere - the intuitive and bodily rather than logical or rational - sandplay activates deep layers of the unconscious in the service of healing and development, layers hard to reach with more verbal methods of therapy.

Book The Sand Art Bottles of Andrew Clemens

Download or read book The Sand Art Bottles of Andrew Clemens written by Roy Sucholeiki and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sand art bottles of Andrew Clemens (1857-1894) draw reactions of astonishment and disbelief. Deaf from age six, Clemens began creating his bottles at an early age, selling them from his home and in local shops in his hometown of McGregor, Iowa. He later developed his craft to an extraordinarily high degree, using tempered hickory sticks with specially designed tips to deposit and position naturally colored grains of sand inside chemists' bottles. Many since have attempted to duplicate his technique but his works of art stand unmatched. Clemens made possibly thousands of sand art bottles during his short life but relatively few remain. Some of these are in museums, and many are in private collections. Those that occasionally appear at auctions sell for thousands of dollars. This book covers Clemens's life and work, with dozens of detailed photographs of his intricate designs.

Book Sandplay Therapy Treatment of Psychopathologies

Download or read book Sandplay Therapy Treatment of Psychopathologies written by Eva Pattis Zoja and published by Daimon. This book was released on 2020 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain. – C.G. Jung Ten European sandplay therapists describe how severe psychopathologies can be treated in the ’free and protected space’ of the sandbox. The sandplay therapy cases in this book illustrate some of the most difficult, yet also most effective applications: psychoses, borderline syndromes, psychosomatic illnesses, drug addictions, or narcissistic character disorders. Sandplay seems to access areas of human suffering which have otherwise always resisted psychotherapeutic treatment. Recent research in neuroscience explains why this is possible: trauma is not remembered in verbal form – what has never been articulated in words nor ever ’shaped’ cannot be outwardly expressed. In sandplay, however, ’it’ manifests itself as a form, shaped by the hands. The inexpressible can be seen and touched – therefore, it can be transformed. Contents: Eva Pattis Zoja: Understanding with the Hands Vito La Spina: Sandplay Therapy in the Treatment of Borderline Personality Disturbance Andreina Navone: Matter and the Psyche: A Feasible Therapy Stefano Marinucci: Children in Distress Francesco Montecchi: The Self and Family Archetypes in Children Wilma Bosio: Image and the Analytical Relationship in Sandplay Therapy Lorenzo Bignamini: Sacrifice as Death and Rebirth in Adolescent Development Marcella Merlino: Images of Time: New Departures at a Public Drug Addiction Clinic Franco Castellana: Sandplay and the Analytical Partnership Ruth Ammann: On Resonance

  • Author : Harald Haarmann
  • Publisher : Peter Lang

  • Pages : 318 pages

Download or read book Foundations of Culture written by Harald Haarmann and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructing culture means constructing knowledge and making it operational for the benefit of sustained community life. As a cognitive process, knowledge-construction does not evolve in a vacuum but rather interacts with belief systems and worldview. Cultural knowledge is modulated by key factors such as time (linear versus non-linear), conceptions of reality (physical, imagined, virtual), identity, and intentionality. The critical investigation and comparison of cultures in space and time call for a revision of several concepts. These include utility (as the maxim of modern Euro-American society), prototype (as an allegedly unified concept of culture evolution), and replacement (as a generalizing signifier for the exchange of old items for new ones). The working of cultural memory is understood as the storage capacity of items of knowledge (relating to the past, present and future) according to parameters of experienced rather than absolute time. This study discusses a wide selection of the variables shaping the foundations and fabric of culture, starting with the human capacities for symbol-making and using sign systems. The impact of knowledge-construction on the culture process is articulated in 30 postulates concerning the dynamics of communal life and patterns of sustenance, the relationship between the natural environment and cultural space, and the life cycle of cultures.
