This book was released on 2010 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Copulas are distribution functions with standard uniform univariate margins. A famous class of copulas consists of Archimedean copulas, which are constructed by a one-dimensional function called the generator of the Archimedean copula. In large-dimensional applications the symmetry of Archimedean copulas is often considered to be a drawback. By nesting Archimedean copulas at different levels, one obtains the more general and flexible class of nested Archimedean copulas. The present work explores these copulas. In particular, efficient sampling algorithms, especially suited for large dimensions, are presented. From the practitioner's point of view, fast sampling algorithms are required for large-scale simulation studies. Efficiently sampling nested Archimedean copulas requires sampling from certain distributions which are related to the generators of the Archimedean copulas involved via Laplace-Stieltjes transforms. The work at hand presents efficient strategies for sampling these distributions. As an application, a pricing model for collateralized debt obligations is developed which precisely captures the given hierarchical structure of such a credit-risky portfolio.

Book Elements of Copula Modeling with R

Download or read book Elements of Copula Modeling with R written by Marius Hofert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the main theoretical findings related to copulas and shows how statistical modeling of multivariate continuous distributions using copulas can be carried out in the R statistical environment with the package copula (among others). Copulas are multivariate distribution functions with standard uniform univariate margins. They are increasingly applied to modeling dependence among random variables in fields such as risk management, actuarial science, insurance, finance, engineering, hydrology, climatology, and meteorology, to name a few. In the spirit of the Use R! series, each chapter combines key theoretical definitions or results with illustrations in R. Aimed at statisticians, actuaries, risk managers, engineers and environmental scientists wanting to learn about the theory and practice of copula modeling using R without an overwhelming amount of mathematics, the book can also be used for teaching a course on copula modeling.

Book Dependence Modeling with Copulas

Download or read book Dependence Modeling with Copulas written by Harry Joe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dependence Modeling with Copulas covers the substantial advances that have taken place in the field during the last 15 years, including vine copula modeling of high-dimensional data. Vine copula models are constructed from a sequence of bivariate copulas. The book develops generalizations of vine copula models, including common and structured factor models that extend from the Gaussian assumption to copulas. It also discusses other multivariate constructions and parametric copula families that have different tail properties and presents extensive material on dependence and tail properties to assist in copula model selection. The author shows how numerical methods and algorithms for inference and simulation are important in high-dimensional copula applications. He presents the algorithms as pseudocode, illustrating their implementation for high-dimensional copula models. He also incorporates results to determine dependence and tail properties of multivariate distributions for future constructions of copula models.

Book Pricing and Liquidity of Complex and Structured Derivatives

Download or read book Pricing and Liquidity of Complex and Structured Derivatives written by Mathias Schmidt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-31 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the “strike of default” (SOD) benchmark concept. The author determines the SOD through cross-sectional pricing between the credit market and the option market, considering the same underlying. The idea of the SOD is to combine the implied probability of default from both markets to get a time-depending share price, at which the markets believe the underlying will default. By means of credit default swaps (CDS) and option pricing methods, the SOD is determined for any exchange-listed company, where option and CDS market data are available.

Book Cluster Randomization Trials

Download or read book Cluster Randomization Trials written by Sin-Ho Jung and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-12-20 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oftentimes, small groups (called clusters) of individuals (called subunits) are randomized between treatment arms. Typically, clusters are families, classes, communities, surgeons operating patients, and so on. Such trials are called cluster randomization trials (CRTs). The subunits in each cluster share common frailties so that their outcomes tend to be positively correlated. Since clusters are independent, the data in two arms are independent in CRTs. In a clinical trial, multiple sites (such as teeth or ears) from each subject may be randomized between different treatment arms. In this case, the sites (subunits) of each subject (cluster) share common genetic, physiological, or environmental characteristics so that their observations tend to be positively correlated. This kind of trials are called subunit randomization trials (SRTs). In SRTs, dependency exists both within and between treatment arms. Individually randomized group treatment (IRGT) trials are composite of traditional independent subject randomization and CRTs. In an IRGT trial, the control arm is to treat patients individually, whereas the experimental arm is to treat patients using a group training, education, or treatment to increase the treatment effect by close interactions among patients. As a result, the outcome data of the control arm are independent as in traditional trials, but those in the experimental arm are correlated within each group (cluster) as in CRTs. Hence, two arms in IRGT trials have different dependency structures. Unlike standard CRTs, clusters of IRGT trials are usually organized after randomization. But statistically, they have identical statistical issues between the two types of trials, i.e., accounting for the dependency within each cluster. Although this book is entitled Cluster Randomization Trials, it covers all three types of trials (i.e., CRTs, SRTs, and IRGT trials) resulting in clustered data. For outcome variables of binary, continuous, and time-to-event types, we investigate generalized estimating equation type statistical tests and their sample size formulas. Also presented are random number generation algorithms for different types of outcome variables and randomization methods. The methods are discussed in terms of clinical trials, but can be used to design and analyze any types of experiments involving clustered data. This book also discusses statistical methods for various types of biomarker studies, including ROC methods, with clustered data. Key Features: Includes extensive statistical tests and their sample size formulas for various types of clinical trials resulting in clustered data. Handles different variable types of endpoints separately. Discusses algorithms to generate clustered binary and survival data that are useful for simulations. Covers statistical tests and sample size formulas for medical tests with clustered data.

Book Contributions to Static and Time varying Copula based Modeling of Multivariate Association

Download or read book Contributions to Static and Time varying Copula based Modeling of Multivariate Association written by Martin Ruppert and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Putting a particular emphasis on nonparametric methods that rely on modern empirical process techniques, the author contributes to the theory of static and time-varying stochastic models for multivariate association based on the concept of copulas. These functions enable a profound understanding of multivariate association, which is pivotal for judging whether a large set of risky assets entails diversification effects or aggravates risk from an entrepreneurial point of view. Since serial dependence is a stylized fact of financial time series, an asymptotic theory for estimating the structure of association in this context is developed under weak assumptions. A new measure of multivariate association, based on a notion of distance to stochastic independence, is introduced. Asymptotic results as well as hypothesis tests are established which are directly applicable to important types of multivariate financial time series. To ensure that risk management properly captures the current structure of association, it is crucial to assess the constancy of the structure. Therefore, nonparametric tests for a constant copula with either a specified or unspecified change point (candidate) are derived. The thesis concludes with a study of characterizations of association between non-continuous random variables.

Book Copulas and their Applications in Water Resources Engineering

Download or read book Copulas and their Applications in Water Resources Engineering written by Lan Zhang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex environmental and hydrological processes are characterized by more than one correlated random variable. These events are multivariate and their treatment requires multivariate frequency analysis. Traditional analysis methods are, however, too restrictive and do not apply in many cases. Recent years have therefore witnessed numerous applications of copulas to multivariate hydrologic frequency analyses. This book describes the basic concepts of copulas, and outlines current trends and developments in copula methodology and applications. It includes an accessible discussion of the methods alongside simple step-by-step sample calculations. Detailed case studies with real-world data are included, and are organized based on applications, such as flood frequency analysis and water quality analysis. Illustrating how to apply the copula method to multivariate frequency analysis, engineering design, and risk and uncertainty analysis, this book is ideal for researchers, professionals and graduate students in hydrology and water resources engineering.

Book Counting Statistics for Dependent Random Events

Download or read book Counting Statistics for Dependent Random Events written by Enrico Bernardi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on counting statistics presents a novel copula-based approach to counting dependent random events. It combines clustering, combinatorics-based algorithms and dependence structure in order to tackle and simplify complex problems, without disregarding the hierarchy of or interconnections between the relevant variables. These problems typically arise in real-world applications and computations involving big data in finance, insurance and banking, where experts are confronted with counting variables in monitoring random events. In this new approach, combinatorial distributions of random events are the core element. In order to deal with the high-dimensional features of the problem, the combinatorial techniques are used together with a clustering approach, where groups of variables sharing common characteristics and similarities are identified and the dependence structure within groups is taken into account. The original problems can then be modeled using new classes of copulas, referred to here as clusterized copulas, which are essentially based on preliminary groupings of variables depending on suitable characteristics and hierarchical aspects. The book includes examples and real-world data applications, with a special focus on financial applications, where the new algorithms’ performance is compared to alternative approaches and further analyzed. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to master students, PhD students and researchers whose work involves or can benefit from the innovative methodologies put forward here. It will also stimulate the empirical use of new approaches among professionals and practitioners in finance, insurance and banking.
