Book excerpt: Sammy, as depicted in Amy Gant's superb illustrations, was my beloved pet for 8 years. In my grieving process after his loss, the idea to write a book honoring him became more and more apparent. Thus, Sammy's great adventure series was designed, with the first book theme depicting a “safari” adventure of his day. In addition, Sammy and his family include a simple chore chart, with the ultimate free time to play soccer after the chores are completed. Sammy's friend (in real life as well) finishes his chores and joins Sammy for some serious soccer.Mom & Dad fix lunch and send them out to play. Later on, Steve goes home and Sammy gets ready for bed, remembering to thank everyone who helped him on his “safari” and especially his young readers, who are inspired to read more in the series about Sammy and his next big adventure.

His bubble-brother, Dave, a juvenile Bottle Nosed Dolphin, is also Sams best bubble-buddy. They now set out on an adventure unlike anything they have known before. An adventure that stretches loyalty to breaking point, where friendships are forged in unusual places, and where attachments are formed and some are broken. There is guppy-love and jeopardy, humour, fear, stress, games, pursuit, intimidation, fun and plenty of surprises along the way. The bubble-buddies, through no fault of their own, get caught up in a plot of revenge: they are kidnapped, rescued, almost eaten, and just when they thought it was all over, war erupts. Where experienced politicians, diplomats and soldiers fail, our unlikely pair of heroes saves the day. Follow your imagination and meet to an amazingly eloquent swordfish, an irritated octopus, roguish hammer-head sharks, a sight to fright, and a fun-loving over educated blue whale. And thats just the beginning: there are battalions of barracuda, pirate Viper-Fish, rogue sharks, military manta rays, and schools of diplomacy. Enter into this fascinating world and join the bubble-buddies on an underwater adventure.

The story is meant to help parents discuss these issues with their child, and to give hope to other parents of children with miracle babies.Sammie the Salmon is a story of hope and inspiration for anyone with a miracle child. Sam was born at 26 weeks weighing 1 pound 13 ounces. He stayed in the NICU for three months. I hope his story can show other preemie families that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This story is about the feelings we had when bringing home a tiny four pound baby. The fears families go through after coming home are real. We were very cautious after bringing our miracle baby home. It takes a lot of strength to let go of the fears and believe it's going to be ok. Letting your little one swim with the rest of the fish in the world can be overwhelming and gratifying at the same time. Our preemie is now 13, and doing wonderfully!! The best things do come in small packages! Our miracle babies are tough and so are you!ABOUT THE AUTHORI am a mommy to Sam, my miracle child, who spent three months in the NICU. I'm also the proud mommy to Emily, my precious daughter who we adopted from South Korea. I have always been an advocate for children first and foremost, along with being a special education teacher for the past seventeen years. I truly believe that all children are special and unique.

Book excerpt: In All Things First' looks in detail at 1 Squadron during the Second World War with particular emphasis on the pilots and its operational activities. 1 Squadron was active from a very early stage when it flew to France on 8 September 1939 as part of the Advanced Air Striking Force and played a significant role in the Battle of France. Unlike most other squadrons that fought in France, it also played a major part in the Battle of Britain in 11 Group. Later in the war the Squadron had considerable success in the night intruder role and also took part in the defense against hit-and-run raiders. It was highly active over occupied Europe carrying out Rhubarb and Ramrod operations including the dive bombing of V-1 installations. When the V-1 campaign began 1 Squadron was the highest scoring Spitfire squadron. During the Second World War it flew the Hawker Hurricane from 1939-42 before converting to the Typhoon. In early 1944 it received Spitfire IXs and ended the war with the Griffon-powered Spitfire F.21. The main parts of the book are as follows: 1) Early Days - a brief look at the history of 1 Squadron up to 1939, 2) The First Team - pilot profiles, 3) The Phoney War - Blitzkrieg - The Withdrawal from France, 4) The Battle of Britain, 5) Sweeps and Circuses in 1941, 6) Night Intruders, 7) The Typhoon - combat with Fw 190 Jabos and Ramrods, 8) The Spitfire, 9) The V-1 Campaign and conversion to the Spitfire F.21, 10) The Post War Years - the No.1 Squadron story brought up to date. There will also be extensive appendices to include aircraft losses, details of selected operations and pilot escape and evasion.
