Book Teachings of Presidents of the Church Brigham Young

Download or read book Teachings of Presidents of the Church Brigham Young written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book was released on with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prophet Brigham Young taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ in a basic, practical way that gave inspiration and hope to the Saints struggling to build a home in the wilderness. Though more than a century has now passed, his words are still fresh and appropriate for us today as we continue the work of building the kingdom of God. President Young declared that as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we possess the “doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart” (DBY, 7). He promised that those who receive the gospel in their hearts will have awakened “within them a desire to know and understand the things of God more than they ever did before in their lives” and will begin to “inquire, read and search and when they go to their Father in the name of Jesus he will not leave them without a witness” (DBY, 450). This book reflects the desire of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to deepen the doctrinal understanding of Church members and to awaken within them a greater desire to know the things of God. It will inspire and motivate individuals, priesthood quorums, and Relief Society classes to inquire, read, search, and then go to their Father in Heaven for a witness of the truth of these teachings. Each chapter contains two sections—“Teachings of Brigham Young” and “Suggestions for Study.” The first section consists of extracts from Brigham Young’s sermons to the early Saints. Each statement has been referenced, and the original spelling and punctuation have been preserved; however, the sources cited will not be readily available to most members. These original sources are not necessary to have in order to effectively study or teach from this book. Members need not purchase additional references and commentaries to study or teach these chapters. The text provided in this book, accompanied by the scriptures, is sufficient for instruction. Members should prayerfully read and study President Young’s teachings in order to gain new insights into gospel principles and discover how those principles apply to their everyday lives. By faithfully and prayerfully studying these selections, Latter-day Saints will have a greater understanding of gospel principles and will more fully appreciate the profound and inspired teachings of this great prophet. The second section of each chapter offers a series of questions that will encourage thoughtful contemplation, personal application, and discussion of President Young’s teachings. Members should refer to and carefully reread his words on the principle being discussed. Deep and prayerful study of these teachings will inspire members to greater personal commitment and will help them resolve to follow the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If individuals and families prayerfully follow the principles in this book, they will be blessed and inspired to greater dedication and spirituality, as were the early Saints who heard these words directly from the lips of the “Lion of the Lord” (HC, 7:434)—the prophet, seer, and revelator, President Brigham Young.

Book excerpt: Romans, more than any other book, sparked the Protestant Reformation. No other single document has so impacted the development of Christianity. Romans, above all, is a powerful and insightful treatment of God's plan to save human beings through Jesus Christ and thus speaks to every generation. Amid an undercurrent of conflict between the Jews and Gentiles, Paul lays out the most complete theological explanation of the plan of salvation in the New Testament. One of his goals is putting to rest any confusion as to his message regarding grace and the law that may have arisen from previous letters to Galatia and Corinth, Thus, throughout Romans, Paul tackles several theological themes: Unit in Christ and salvation for all, Sin-its power and its universality, Law, Grace, Justification by faith, The transformed life, Hope and assurance Book jacket.

Book Prophecies Plans and Scenarios

Download or read book Prophecies Plans and Scenarios written by Gordon L Ziegler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my greatest ambitions at age 13 was to study all the prophecies of the Bible carefully and piece them all together in a single linear sequence, so we could get a more clear idea of what lies ahead—a Biblical Your Life Between Now and Eternity. After years of research and prophetic model building, I came to see that such a feat was impossible, because the individual prophecies are pieces of more than one and more than two independent scenarios of events, dependent upon different sets of human and divine circumstances. As Ellen White said, “it should be remembered that the promises and threatenings of God are alike conditional [Selected Messages—1, p. 67].” Not all the prophecies of the Bible have or will come to pass. They depend on circumstances that are not actualized. As Paul said, “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” 1 Corinthians 13: 8-10, NKJV.

Book 1st Corinthians

Download or read book 1st Corinthians written by Walter Pickering and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-06-30 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Corinthians is a letter about subjects. Paul visited Corinth around AD 50, about twenty years after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. His visit to Corinth was during his second missionary journey. He stayed in Corinth eighteen months to establish a church, then left and went to Ephesus. A prominent church member of the Church of Corinth named Chloe wrote Paul a letter about subjects they did not understand. In turn, Paul, under the inspiration of God, gave answers to those subjects in his epistle we call 1 Corinthians. So 1 Corinthians is a letter about subjects-subjects such as: God's Plan of Salvation, Celibacy, Singleness, Marriage, Sex, Divisions in the Church, Living the Christian Life, Going to Court, Marriage and Divorce, Offending a Weaker Brother or Sister in Christ, Love and Christianity, Prophesy, Women Preachers, Giving to the Church, Long and Short Hair, and many, many more intriguing subjects you can find in the contents section at the beginning of this book.

Book The Wisdom of the Wise

Download or read book The Wisdom of the Wise written by H. H. Drake Williams and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2001 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pauls Jewish background and his use of Scripture have been enduring interest within New Testament scholarship. This study contributes to this discussion by examing the presence and function of Scripture in I Cor. 1:18-3:23. The author examines the precence and function of Scripture in the form of six citations, two allusions, and seven echoes within I Cor. 1:19-3:23. From the examination of the function of these texts, this work concludes that Pauls use of Scripture agrees with its original context and stands in line with a majority of early Jewish tradition. Moreover, this study suggests that Pavis use of Scripture also helps to chart a way through a difficult section of his writing.
