Book The Christian Doctrine of Salvation Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Christian Doctrine of Salvation Classic Reprint written by George Barker Stevens and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of Salvation The aim of the present work is to present a biblical, historical, and constructive discussion of the Christian doctrine of salvation. The theme has been regarded and treated primarily as a subject of investigation. I have accordingly approached it from the historical side, and have aimed to state the problems to be considered and to define my positions respecting them in an historical and inductive method. I have tried to judge the various opinions reviewed and to test my own by means of the fundamental Christian concepts of God and of man. The treatment has been made as objective as possible. It has been my aim to describe and estimate conflicting theories with fairness. My own judgments, with the reasons for them, have been frankly given. It is not to be expected, of course, that they will commend themselves to the acceptance of all readers, but I trust that those who may dissent from them may still find something in the book by which they may be interested or instructed. The present discussion presupposes a general knowledge of Biblical Theology and of the History of Christian Doctrine, such as is furnished by the relevant sections of my Theology of the New Testament and Professor Fisher's History of Christian Doctrine, earlier volumes of the International Theological Library. In saving sinful men may not God proceed in an emergent and haphazard fashion, adjusting his saving acts to the circumstances as they occur in human history? May not the facts of the Gospel be without order, incapable of being reduced to any programme whatsoever? If so, there can be no soteriology, or systematic exposition of a gospel plan of salvation. There are three proofs for the fact of an ordo salu tis: (i) biblical, (2) logical, (3) analogical. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Salvation I Every institution, whether secular or religious, has certain fundamental principles that determine its character, and out of which everything connected with it of a practical nature naturally and necessarily springs. In order to a clear and comprehensive view Of the system, it is of the utmost importance to Obtain a proper understanding of its great elementary fundamental principles. These truths find strong confirmation when applied to the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to a clear understanding of its character, and an adequate conception of its practical applications and possible blessings, a knowledge of certain fundamental matters called First Principles is imperative; It is the purpose of this volume to give; not, perhaps, an exhaustive, but a somewhat comprehensive, view of The First Principles of the Gospel of Christ, beginning with a consideration of the recog nized moral malady of sin, thence passing Onward to a study of the divine remedy as revealed in the gospel, thus tracing the path in the progress of the soul from the state of deprav ity even unto the blessed consummation of a perfect character; or, in other words, considering the steps in the journey of man from the Paradise Lost to the Paradise Regained. Book The Gospel Plan of Salvation Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel Plan of Salvation Classic Reprint written by Thomas Wesley Brents and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-02 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel Plan of Salvation Every writer has a taste and a style as peculiarly his own as are his fea tures or his temperament; hence no two are likely to select exactly the same field of labor, or adopt the same method of arranging the material used by each respectively. While others have written upon some, perhaps all, the subjects treated in this work, we are not aware of any single book filling the place which this is designed to occupy. While it is directly addressed to the alien, we hope it will aid the young disciple in obtaining a more extensive knowledge of the form of doctrine by which Che was made free from sin especially will youngpreac/zer; find it a valuable compend of argnnzenl and rrilieal aut/zoriz'y in ellucidation of many subjects which they will find it necessary to examine. They will here find an amount of authority which would cost them much labor and money were they compelled to get it from the original authors quoted by us. Many of the works are out of print, so that only second-hand copies can be had at all, and these only by importa tion at fabulous cost. We found it necessary to pay ten, fifteen, and even as high as twenz'yzfiz'e dollars for works from which to obtain the author's defini tion of a single word, which will be found in this work. Many of these authors define in Latin which could not be read by the common English scholar if he had them; here he will find only the English translation of the author's Latin, which all can read and easily understand. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christ's Plan of Salvation: A Bible Study But when the fullness of time had come for the one great sacrificial atonement which had been shadowed forth in the law and proclaimed in the lofty imagery of the prophetic poets, the Christ made his advent, and by his obla tion of himself once ofiered, made a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world. By this sacrifice so ample, Christ did away with the ofierings and rites which were a necessary part of a system of salvation works, and inaugurated the reign of salvation by faith. Book Man Enough

Download or read book Man Enough written by Frank Pittman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1994-10-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does a boy learn to be a man? A man learns masculinity primarily from his father. But generations of boys who grow up without caring fathers or male mentors to emulate are left to guess what "men" are really like. They rely on cultural icons--larger-than-life images--as models of masculinity. As a result, they grow up mirroring overblown myths of manhood. Obsessed with being "man enough," they become philanderers, controllers, and competitors--constantly overcompensating for their loss of a true role model, yet sorely unprepared for family life. In Man Enough, psychiatrist and family therapist Frank Pittman explores what it is like to grow up male today. With great poignancy, humor, and candor, he weaves together case studies from his practice, examples from literature and films, plus personal vignettes from his own experiences as a father to examine these hyper-masculine men and to illustrate how they developed and how they can change. Dr. Pittman asserts that men can move past proving their masculinity and start practicing it by striving with the other guys rather than against them, achieving equality and intimacy with their mates--and by fathering. A man raises himself as he raises children and learns to understand and forgive his parents as he becomes one. An important book for men and women, Man Enough offers a new approach to issues of commitment, caring and control and creates a positive model for the fathers of tomorrow's men.

Book The Only Way to Be Saved Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Only Way to Be Saved Classic Reprint written by Lorenzo Snow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-11-25 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Only Way to Be Saved On the day of Pentecost, Peter says to the surrounding multitude - Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. And ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. In this prophetic statement we learn that people were to perform an external work (baptism in water) in order that they might receive the remission of sins, and afterwards the gift of the Holy Ghost. But before attending to the outward work the inward work must be performed - faith and repentance. Faith and repentance go before baptism, and baptism before the remission of sins and the reception of the Holy Ghost. Hence we see the useless and unscrip tural practice of baptizing infants. They cannot exercise faith and repentance, qualifications necessary previous to baptism; then, why require the outward work? Download or read book The Ultimate Salvation written by Igbani I. Agwu and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultimate Salvation in the context of this writing speaks of the final and complete redemptive experience in the Christian faith and what it takes to participate in it. It is the zenith of victory in the Christian race. Christianity as a religion of redemption from sin and its consequences and a reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. It privileges believers in Christ to temporarily and partially enjoy the salvation received by faith in this world through diverse experiences in preparation for the eternal expectations. Christ, in one of his last instructions recorded in the Gospel of John 14:1aEUR"4, told His followers He is going to prepare a place in heaven for them and others who will join them. He said He will come back to take with Him to heaven everyone that believes in Him. And that is the peak of the hope of the people of God in Jesus Christ. Christian salvation is both immediate and progressive, and it is only at the rapture of the saints, living and dead, shall the ultimate be consummated. That being the case, Christians need to understand that we are in the evil last days (Ephesians 5:15aEUR"16), when those hoping for the ultimate salvation need to purify themselves (1 John 3:3) to maintain the LordaEUR(tm)s standard of holiness, bearing in mind that the finishing line of the heavenly race is nearer now than before (Romans 13:11).
