Book Saint Vincent De Paul His Perceived Christological Thought Pattern on Charity and Christ in the Poor

Download or read book Saint Vincent De Paul His Perceived Christological Thought Pattern on Charity and Christ in the Poor written by Michael I. Edem CM and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 775 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The entire work is divided into three parts. Each part has its accompanying chapters with corresponding introductions and conclusions. It is the incarnation that necessitated the self-emptying and self-abasement of Christ. It is the same mystery that underlies his passion and crucifixion and eventual resurrection. The mystery of incarnation capped with experiential events forms the tap root of this global vision of Christ in the poor. It is central to his theology of the poor, Christ in the poor and the poor in Christ. The incarnation and experiential events furnish the inclination and orientation Vincent’s thought pattern possesses. Such penetration and globalization process concerning the word “incarnate” are in line with the Church’s “permanent need of theological reflection.” The special inclination acts as a veneer that links other aspects. It forms a continuum, permeating and illumining the mystical link of the Vincentian Christ in the poor and the poor in Christ.

Book Some Counsels Of S Vincent De Paul To Which Is Appended The Thoughts Of Mademoiselle Le Gras

Download or read book Some Counsels Of S Vincent De Paul To Which Is Appended The Thoughts Of Mademoiselle Le Gras written by Saint Vincent De Paul and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The counsels contained in the following pages were addressed to the Companies of Mission Priests and Sisters of Charity, founded in France for the teaching and assistance of the poor more than two hundred and fifty years ago. They are characterised by the simplicity and the directness which distinguished S. Vincent de Paul himself, and it may be found, perhaps, that their significance does not depend on place, period, or condition, but still has application here and now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Vincent de Paul love was always very concrete, very practical. It was love in action. 'Let us love God, my brothers and sisters, let us love God, but let it be with the strength of our arms and the sweat of our brows. So very often many acts of love of God, of resting in his presence, of benevolence and of such interior affections and practices although very good and very desirable, are nevertheless to be suspected if they do not reach out in the practice of effective love.' St. Vincent XI, 290. He certainly found the essence of his faith and the inspiration for his good works within and through the scriptures, for him there was only one driving force, the person and mission of Jesus Christ. His spirituality and action flowed from his contemplation of Jesus. He was particularly inspired by two scenes from the Gospel which he often quoted. 'The Spirit of God is upon me, for he has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor.' Luke 4:18-19 and the judgment scene Mt. 25:31-46. He said to the Daughters of Charity 'you must do what the Son of God did when he was on earth. And what did he chiefly do? He laboured unceasingly for his neighbour, visiting and healing the sick and instructing the ignorant unto their salvation'. St. Vincent, 5 July 1640. The Vocation of a Daughter of Charity' . Conf 2. It was in the light of the Gospels that he saw and acted. The people struggling with illness, poverty, or exclusion became for Vincent divine revelation. 'Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do unto me' Mt. 25:40. He had a vision of Christ who is present in people living in poverty, for him they were the new embodiment of God's own person, Jesus himself. He was aware that it was not always easy to recognise this presence. In one of his most quoted passages Vincent encouraged his community 'One should not judge poor men and women by their looks nor by their apparent denseness. Very frequently they hardly seem to have the appearance or intelligence of human beings, so gross looking and offensive are they. But turn over the coin and you will discover by the light of faith that the Son of God, whose will it was to be poor, is presented by just these people.' Confèrence to Priests of the Mission, 6 December 1658, Coste, CED, 12 He taught the Sisters to see the face of Christ in every foundling, every invalid, every beggar and to serve them accordingly. 'A sister will go and visit the poor ten times a day, and ten times a day she will find God there.' When Vincent looked out at the world it was these little people, the invisible ones, the outcasts that he saw. His goal was to highlight and make visible the almost concealed dignity of these people oppressed by poverty, illness and exclusion, to reach out to them so that they would feel wanted and needed and to get others involved.

Book excerpt: The Life of St Vincent de Paul. c. 1581-1660 His Legacy continues today. Written for teens and young adults. Excerpt: Chapter 5 MISSION WORK THE incident which had given rise to Vincent's first mission at Folleville had never been forgotten by Madame de Gondi. It seemed to her that there was need to multiply such missions among the country poor, and no sooner had Vincent returned to her house than she offered him a large sum of money to endow a band of priests who would devote their lives to evangelizing the peasantry on her estates. Vincent was delighted, but considering himself unfit to undertake the management of such an enterprise, he proposed that it should be put into the hands of the Jesuits or the Oratorians. Madame de Gondi, although convinced in her own mind that Vincent, and Vincent alone, was the man to carry out the enterprise, obediently suggested it to one religious Order after another. In every case some obstacle intervened, until the Countess was more than ever persuaded that her first instinct had been right. Knowing Vincent's loyalty to Holy Church and his obedience to authority, she determined to have recourse to her brother-in-law, the Archbishop of Paris. An old house called the College des Bons Enfants was at that moment vacant. She asked it of the Archbishop, whom she had interested in her scheme, and who proposed to Vincent to undertake the foundation. There was no longer room for hesitation; the will of God seemed plain; indeed, Vincent's love of the poor had been for some time struggling with his humility. The new Congregation was to consist of a few good priests who, renouncing all thought of honor and worldly advancement, were to devote their lives to preaching in the villages and small towns of France. Their traveling expenses were to be paid from a common fund. They were to spend themselves in the service of their neighbor, instructing, catechizing and exhorting; and they were to take nothing in return for their labors. Nine months of the year were to be given to this kind of work; the other three to prayer and preparation. In March, 1625, the foundation was made, and Vincent de Paul was named the first superior. It was stipulated, however, that he should remain, as he had already promised, in the house of the founders, a condition which seemed likely to doom the enterprise to failure. Vincent could hardly fail to realize how necessary it was that the superior of a new Congregation should be in residence in his own house, but he confided the little company to God and awaited the development of events.

This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint Vincent de Paul began a work of charity for men and women, the latter being the Sisters of Charity. His spiritual doctrine and method of preaching is a subject well worth studying for all sincere Catholics. Saint Vincent de Paul had his little method of bringing about conversions: "First show the reasons for loving goodness and hating evil; second, show what virtue is; third, show how it is attained." This work lays all of this out for the use of the preacher and the edification of the faithful.
