Book excerpt: Christmas can be a controversial time of year, with individuals unsure as to whether they should participate into materialistic festivities or hermit away into solitude and worship. This text hopes to bridge the gap between both by uncovering the five foundational layers of the Christmas story and concluding on the best course of action for the ascension and upgrade of both mankind and the collective, including Gaia. Saint Claustrum is set out as follows: Layer 1 - In the story of Jesus (how the timeline of Christ is condensed and worshiped during the Christmas season) Layer 2 - In the stars (evidence that the original Christmas festivities were in honour of the Sun, not the Son) Layer 3 - Inside the body (the sacred secretion is a spiritual substance that leads to enlightenment and healing, as discussed throughout the Bible and other religious texts) Layer 4 - In tradition (the true purpose of decorations, stories and feasting as part of the festivity) Layer 5 - In reality (the necessity of such celebrations during the ascension process for the entire planet) No matter your chosen religion, beliefs, outlook or divine purpose in life, this book will ensure that all of your future Winter Solstices are drenched in joy and fulfilment of purpose.

Book excerpt: The present day is witnessing an explosion of our understanding of how the brain works at all levels, in which complexity is piled on complexity, and mechanisms of astonishing elegance are being continually discovered. This process is most developed in the major areas of the brain, such as the cortex, thalamus, and striatum. The Claustrum instead focuses on a small, remote, and, until recently, relatively unknown area of the brain. In recent years, researchers have come to believe that the claustrum is concerned with consciousness, a bold hypothesis supported by the claustrum’s two-way connections with nearly every other region of the brain and its seeming involvement with multisensory integrations—the hallmark of consciousness. The claustrum, previously in a humble position at the back of the stage, might in fact be the conductor of the brain’s orchestra. The Claustrum brings together leading experts on the claustrum from the varied disciplines of neuroscience, providing a state-of-the-art presentation of what is currently known about the claustrum, promising lines of current research (including epigenetics), and projections of new lines of investigation on the horizon. Develops a unifying hypothesis about the claustrum’s role in consciousness, as well as the integration of sensory information and other higher brain functions Discusses the involvement of the claustrum with autism, schizophrenia, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease Coverage of all aspects of the claustrum, from its evolution and development to promising new lines of research, including epigenetics, provides a platform and point of reference for future investigative efforts

Book The Claustrum charting a way forward for the brain s most mysterious nucleus

Download or read book The Claustrum charting a way forward for the brain s most mysterious nucleus written by Ariel Y. Deutch and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-09-09 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The claustrum is a long, band-like grey matter structure situated in the ventrolateral telencephalon of most, if not all, mammalian brains. Due to its shape and close proximity to white matter structures and insular cortex, the anatomy and behavioral relevance of the claustrum have proven difficult to study. As a result, disagreements in the literature exist over ontogeny, phylogeny, anatomical boundaries, and connectivity. Despite this, it is generally regarded that the claustrum contains excitatory projection neurons that reciprocally connect to most regions of the cerebral cortex, a feature that has fostered varying hypotheses as to its function. These hypotheses propose multisensory integration, coordination of cortical activity for the generation of conscious percepts, or saliency filtration. The articles of this e-book consider the historical and recent highlights in claustrum structure, hodology, and function and seek to provide a compelling way forward for this “hidden” nucleus.

Book Liturgy and Architecture from the Early Church to the Middle Ages

Download or read book Liturgy and Architecture from the Early Church to the Middle Ages written by Allan Doig and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Allan Doig explores the interrelationship of liturgy and architecture from the early Church to the close of the Middle Ages, taking into account social, economic, technical, theological and artistic factors. These are crucial to a proper understanding of ecclesiastical architecture of all periods, and together their study illuminates the study of liturgy. Buildings and their archaeology are standing indices of human activity, and the whole matrix of meaning they present is highly revealing of the larger meaning of ritual performance within, and movement through, their space. The excavation of the mid-third-century church at Dura Europos in the Syrian desert, the grandeur of Constantine's Imperial basilicas, the influence of the great pilgrimage sites, and the marvels of soaring Gothic cathedrals, all come alive in a new way when the space is animated by the liturgy for which they were built. Reviewing the most recent research in the area, and moving the debate forward, this study will be enormously useful to the liturgist, clergy, theologians, art and architectural historians, and those interested in the conservation of ecclesiastical structures built for the liturgy.

Book The Central Convent of Hospitallers and Templars

Download or read book The Central Convent of Hospitallers and Templars written by Jochen Burgtorf and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From their humble beginnings in Jerusalem as a late eleventh-century hospital and an early twelfth-century pilgrim escort, Hospitallers and Templars evolved into international military religious orders, engaged in numerous charitable, economic, and military pursuits. At the heart of each of these communities, and in many ways a mirror of their growth and adaptability, was a central convent led by several high officials and headquartered first in Jerusalem (to 1187), then in Acre (1191-1291), and then on Cyprus (since 1291), from where the Hospitallers conquered Rhodes (1306-1310), and where fate in the form of a heresy trial caught up with the Templars. The history, organization, and personnel of these two central convents to 1310 are the subject of this comparative study.
