Book NAVSEAINST 8020 5C Qualification and Final Type Qualification Procedures for Navy Explosives

Download or read book NAVSEAINST 8020 5C Qualification and Final Type Qualification Procedures for Navy Explosives written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increased emphasis of explosive safety, the Navy explosive qualification document, NAVSEAINST 8020.5, is being updated to reflect a thorough safety characterization of candidate explosives for use in weapon systems. New requirements in the instruction include an explosive aging protocol, formal explosive selection committees for new weapon systems, and insensitive munitions evaluation on generic test hardware. With increases in joint weapon systems, explosive qualification will involve several domestic and international documents: NAVSEAINST 8020.5, MIL-STD-1751A, STANAG 4170, and other related STANAGs.

Book The Interrelationships Between Qualification Insensitive Munitions and Hazard Classification Testing of Explosives High Explosives Propellants and Pyrotechnics

Download or read book The Interrelationships Between Qualification Insensitive Munitions and Hazard Classification Testing of Explosives High Explosives Propellants and Pyrotechnics written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the U.S. and NATO communities, the terms and concepts of hazard classification, safety, Insensitive Munitions (IM) and qualification testing of all types of explosives including high explosives, propellants and pyrotechnics have caused confusion. It is the intent of this paper to clarify how the each of these terms are related and the testing that they entail. The similarities and differences between test protocols and requirements will be highlighted. In addition to the terms and test requirements, this paper will give the reader an indication of when to conduct the testing within the framework of the acquisition cycle.

Book Test Methods for Explosives

Download or read book Test Methods for Explosives written by Muhamed Suceska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems that there is no book that treats the measurement of the physical pa rameters of explosives as its only subject, although limited information is avail able in a number of books. Therefore, I have tried to bridge this gap in the lit erature with this book. A large number of various physical parameters have to be determined ex perimentally in order to test or characterise an explosive. Various physical principles have been applied for such measurements. Accordingly, a large number of different experimental methods exist, as well as various testing appa ratuses and procedures. On the other hand, great progress has been made recently in the study of detonation phenomena. New measuring techniques can assess extremely short processes to below nanoseconds scale. They make it possible to determine im portant parameters in detonation physics. I have made a great attempt to cover the available literature data on the subject. Because it would be a highly demanding task to include in a single volume all the methods that are in use by various testing agencies, I have tried to give primarily the principles for determination of individual physical pa rameters of explosives by different measuring methods as well as data treatment procedures.

Book International Conference on the Standardization of Safety and Performance Tests for Energetic Materials 2nd Held at Dover New Jersey on 15 19 October 1979

Download or read book International Conference on the Standardization of Safety and Performance Tests for Energetic Materials 2nd Held at Dover New Jersey on 15 19 October 1979 written by Raymond F. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the minutes of the Second International Conference on the Standardization of Safety and Performance Tests for Energetic Materials which was held at ARRADCOM, Dover, NJ on 15-19 October 1979. The proposed outline of a standard manual was discussed. Discussion groups were established: Methodology, Chemistry, Safety, H.E. Performance, and Pyrotechnic Safety and Performance. Each group made recommendations which included tests and criteria for the assessment of safety and suitability of explosives (all energetic materials) that would be required for the interim qualification of that material for military use. Submitted tests were categorized as mandatory, prescribed or optical. A schedule was arranged for distribution and review of the specified group tests.

Book The Explosive Component Water Gap Test

Download or read book The Explosive Component Water Gap Test written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the safety assessment of munitions, the explosives used must be identified. In addition to national legislation and regulatory requirements, the safety and suitability of the explosives used by military services is assessed according to STANAG 4170 before selection and incorporation into the munition. Explosive components used in fuzing systems normally contain explosives that are more sensitive than main charge explosives. Small changes of loading conditions involving pressure-density and/or confinement can radically alter their performance and characteristics, which can affect their safety. Therefore, it is essential that these effects are thoroughly assessed during development and, if necessary, in production. The Explosive Component Water Gap Test (ECWGT) has been developed to assist in this assessment. The aim of this paper is to give the background to and explain the conduct of the ECWGT, a means of testing the shock sensitiveness of explosive components cheaply and in a reproducible manner. The paper is intended to extend the test method to cover cord- and tube-shaped explosive components as well as ignition transfer elements.

Book excerpt: At the request of the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, the Office of Technology Assessment has undertaken an analysis of the proposal to mandate, the use of taggants in explosive materials manufactured for commercial use. A "taggant" is a material that might be added to explosives and gunpowders at the time of manufacture, as an eventual aid to law enforcement. This study assesses the existing taggant technology in order to assist Congress in its decision whether to adopt legislation which would require taggants in explosives and gunpowders.
