Book Safari 101 Hunting Africa the Ultimate Adventure

Download or read book Safari 101 Hunting Africa the Ultimate Adventure written by David L. Brown and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mbogo, the Black Death, which manifests itself in the African Cape buffalo, now stood less than 12 feet away from me. The cow and calf were too close for me to have time to be scared. I would only have time to react on instinct if they came closer. That is the type of excitement that every hunter dreams of and it is still possible in Africa today. It is also one that I was fortunate enough to experience without any permanent ill effects. Eighty percent or more of American hunters think that Africa is too expensive or off-limits and that they will never have a chance to experience their own, up-close-and-personal adventure in the African bushveld. Safari 101 proves just the opposite. Safari 101 is written for the hunter that has always considered Africa out of reach, someone who has a spark of desire just waiting to be fanned into a flame. American hunters spend thousands of dollars every year hunting at home. Almost none of them know that, for the price of a guided elk hunt in the western United States, they can take an African Safari. The myths of being too expensive and too difficult are firmly entrenched in many hunters minds. Safari 101 has forty-six hints dispersed throughout 11 chapters and proves these myths false. Personal experiences are used to illustrate the value of each hint and to make each one easy to remember. Safari 101 takes the author's experiences, and what he learned from professional hunters and outfitters, and puts the information in a logical progression that is entertaining as well as informative. Safari 101 will help fan the spark into a flame.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will give you detailed information on planning your safari. You will receive invaluable tips from picking an outfitter to shipping your animals home. We even cover which seats to pick for your flight. For years I worked and saved, and saved and worked. I spent what felt like a lifetime waiting for the day that I might make my dream African safari come true. The information found here was gathered through my experiences in planning my two safaris over the past few years. As we all know the best way to learn about planning a trip like a safari is to talk to someone that has been there and done that. I would like for you to consider this book as your conversation with an old friend. Most of us are not like the hunters on the television hunting shows. In essence we are not paid personalities thus we must pay to play. It is a very detailed business of planning and executing a hunt in South Africa. I wanted to un-muddy the waters for those whove shared the same dream for a safari as I have for so many years, but didnt know where to start. With the information I am providing, I will help you to avoid the many pitfalls that plague so many hunters as well as the overlooked details that can turn a trip of a lifetime into a nightmare. I am living proof that a safari is attainable for the everyday working man.

Book White Hunters

Download or read book White Hunters written by Brian Herne and published by Holt Paperbacks. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brian Herne's White Hunters: The Golden Age of African Safaris is the story of seventy years of African adventure, danger, and romance. East Africa affects our imagination like few other places: the sight of a charging rhino goes directly to the heart; the limitless landscape of bony highlands, desert, and mountain is, as Isak Dinesen wrote, of "unequalled nobility." White Hunters re-creates the legendary big-game safaris led by Selous and Bell and the daring ventures of early hunters into unexplored territories, and brings to life such romantic figures as Cape-to-Cairo Grogan, who walked 4,000 miles for the love of a woman, and Dinesen's dashing lover, Denys Finch. Witnesses to the richest wildlife spectacle on the earth, these hunters were the first conservationists. Hard-drinking, infatuated with risk, and careless in love, they inspired Hemingway's stories and movies with Clark Gable and Gregory Peck.

Book Peter Capstick s Africa

Download or read book Peter Capstick s Africa written by Peter Hathaway Capstick and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 1987-07-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Hathaway Capstick is a name synonymous with excitement, danger, and high adventure. Sportsman, adventurer, raconteur par excellence, Capstick has been recognized as a modern-day master of African hunting literature—a successor to the works of Hemingway and Robert Ruark. Capstick has written post facto about classic hunters of the past and safaris in which he participated as a professional hunter in such books as Death in the Silent Places and Death in the Dark Continent. Now, he presents an enthralling tale of an entirely new safari, an exciting first-person adventure of his own dangerous and very personal excursion. The result is a definitive work on African hunting, and one of his greatest achievements. In 1985, Capstick went back into the African bush with two top photographers and a crack professional hunter. It was a venture taken for personal challenge, and for the chance to look anew at what had become of the Africa immortalized in his own earlier works. Peter Capstick’s Africa: A Return to the Long Grass is the chronicle, in text and pictures, of this safari. It is full of the same edge-of-the-seat narration, witty anecdotes, and wry observations that have made Capstick’s earlier books so popular. The text of the book has been integrated with the photographs of Paul Kimble and Dick van Niekerk into a lavish full-color production that illustrates Capstick’s narrative in a way his fans have never seen before.

Download or read book Take Me on Safari written by Anthony P. Mauro Sr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2003-07-02 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Two River Times says "... The book ́s vibrant descriptions of his hunting excursions express a true excitement and passion for the sport." Tracker Outdoors calls it "... a wonderfully written and inspiring book about a family on safari in South Africa... This finely crafted writing will surely inspire families, hunters and nature lovers to explore the African bush." African Hunter magazine proclaims " ...this is a good story... a story worth reading. A First World family ́s initiation into the African bush, and their appreciation of not only the wildlife, but the (country ́s) unique culture." “Take Me On Safari: A Family Affair” is a compelling and one-of-a-kind chronicle of a husband, wife, their teenage son, young daughter, and “grandmom” on safari in rural South Africa. This is the unforgettable memoir of the Mauro family, swept from their daily routines in suburbia U.S.A. and dropped into the center of adventure, drama and suspense in a remote corner of the Dark Continent. The experience strengthened family bonds, exposed them to the wonders of an ancient land and laid witness the timeless rituals of wildlife. This uniquely written account also includes the unedited thoughts of family members as taken from their diaries. The book is more than an sequential accounting of a family’s journeys in the Northern Province of South Africa. It is living testimony that a safari can be a catalyst that strengthens family bonds and supports wholesome values. According to the author “a safari is something much less than an arena for machismo but rather a voyage for the soul”. He continues, “... because of a need to share this truth I just thought writing a book was the best way to get the message out”. Those that have enlisted the event know that a safari brings modern man within proximity to reasonably glimpse the life of primitive man. It is a way to transport oneself as far as possible from the information driven and over-regulated new age in which we live to the stark, uninhibited and impulsive ways of ever-present wildlife. It can move us from a reality defined by the pillars of logic to a place where instinct governs survival and has done so since the dawn of time. The book gives numerous examples of the safari testing the mettle of one’s character. It lays bare thoughts and emotions ranging from fatigue, boredom, disappointment, fear and sadness to understanding, euphoria, pride, awe, excitement and surprise – all of which were called upon randomly and at a moments notice. Also highlighted is the family’s respect, appreciation and concern for wildlife and their desire for it to be available for future generations. The book demonstrates that a safari is more than an education about the wilderness. As described by Mr. Mauro, “In a way a safari is a religious experience and it can be as simple as living a humble life of faith or as complex to comprehend as all that is holy”. He continues, “It would give me great pleasure if my modest attempt at writing would inspire families, hunters, and observers to visit Africa and to take an interest in its future. In my opinion the continent is an archaeological testimony to the ways of time immemorial and an important display of the intricate patterns and interdependencies of our world’s ecology”. Although it is not a “how to” book “Take Me on Safari” can be a resource for anyone looking to take his or her family on safari – or even go it alone for that matter.

Book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife

Download or read book A Short Safari Adventure Among Africa s Thorny Bushveld Wildlife written by Bruce Lytle and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a must for anyone traveling to Africa or planning to go on a Southern African Safari, and if your going on safari you need to bring only one book "A short safari adventure among Africa's thorny Bushveld wildlife: Part One - History guide, life's imperatives, enigmas and travel" This book is about a safari adventure to Southern Africa, and is as rich in its history, including Zulu, ANC, Nelson Mandela and technical data as it is in its unusually unique extraordinary photography (over 400 of Lars' outdoor adventure photographs) that the authors have provided along with this wonderful adventure primarily illustrating how ancient San Bushman like hunter-gatherer attitudes influence mankind today and secondly how the global issues of land degradation, water resources, climate, struggles of third world countries, protein shortage, disease, biodiversity, and struggles of conservation affect us, and finally to show that conservation is no longer sufficient for both the survival of wildlife but also Mankind, because in many "conservation" areas wild animals are disappearing and we need animals biodiversity to survive dietary strains as the human population peaks at the end of the 21st century rather than just conservation. We need to focus on the restoration of habitat, ecosystems, communities, biodiversity, and wild animals, which are labeled "sustainable restorancy." They use this word "restorancy" because conservation and conservancy imply maintaining the status quo, however, in so many areas the habitat has been decimated and it is no longer a matter of conserving it but rather the environment needs to be restored and wild animals reintroduced to a restorancy. The authors integrate their adventures and stories including dealing with the Terrible Twelve - lions, leopards, elephants, rhino, buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, sharks, mambas and other snakes, tropical diseases, hyenas, and Homo sapiens. Why did we transition from hunter gatherers to pastoralists or agriculturalists and civilization, despite the "luxurious" living of hunter -gatherers and what relics of hunting remain in our daily lives? Is basketball a hunting reflection of a team on each side of a mastodon trying to dunk stones on the mastodon's head and why were we so successful in hunting and overcoming other animals? Is not President Obama's hunt for Bin Laden the ultimate modern manifestation of our deeply ingrained hunting process? Bruce elaborates on why he hunts, his transition from bird hunter to deer hunter, antelope hunter, and then how when he started hunting elk he found, as in Africa, he needed a guide and more help as part of the hunting process. He relates how Rivulets of Moment, including based on the adventure stories he read as a child about the "jungles" of Africa, a rifle, a trip to Africa, and a dream converged into a river carrying him to trophy hunting in Africa. Lars accompanied him and interviews Bruce, friends, PHs, photographs, and documents the return to the Bushveld and wildlife interactions where Lars grew up. The authors have done an excellent job of blending the past and existing problems and the future solutions by exploring the Manger of early Mankind and the influences on this remarkably beautiful continent. How has the enigma of earth's geology from the Big Bang onwards, including Moses timeline, and weather stresses, driven animal physiology to adapt, and in turn anatomy and behavior to accommodate, and how do different genealogies based on various methods reconcile with ancient biped Australopithecus and Homo species anatomical findings? How did emerging biped Paleo-anthropology and Paleolithic stresses, reflected in the Healthy San Bushmen diet, drive our need to hunt for protein, leadership, belief, protection against wild animal attack and disease, and what are the future challenges for our modern civilization and healthcare? Ingrained or encoded brain encryption from the past drives our daily lives.
