It is hoped that this booklet and 「Saemaul 10 Years」, which will be published soon, will be an activity manual that will be helpful for such efforts. 이 소책자는 1970년대 새마을운동의 역사를 요약한 것이다. 1970년대 통사를 발간하기에 앞서 이 책자를 내 놓는다. 이 시기 새마을운동의 성공으로 대한민국은 굶주림을 벗어 던지고 잘사는 국가로 발돋음을 하였다. 우리 한국인들 스스로가 놀라고 세계를 놀라게 했던 것이다. 첨단 과학이 하루가 다르게 발전되고 있지만 이 지구상에는 아직도 굶주림에 허덕이고 병마에 시달리는 사람들로 넘쳐나고 있다. 이들은 오늘도 그 가난 그 병마에서 벗어 나기 위해 온갖 노력들을 하고 있다. 새마을운동의 성공 신화를 확인하고 벤치마킹하기 위해 많은 외국인들이 대한민국의 새마을현장을 다녀가고 있다. 이 소책자, 그리고 곧 증보 발간될 '새마을 10년' 이 부디 그런 노력에 도움이 되는 활동매뉴얼이 되기를 기대한다.
