Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saddle Up With Jesus is a book about life touched by the Master’s hand. Most of the poems are centered around a cowboy on a cattle drive., his experiences and his conversation with the father about them. They describe him praising his heavenly father, faith in his miraculous power, spending quiet time with him, and sharing him with others. Last but not least the poems describe living with Jesus. They touch on the Bible, different people, church, sorrow, times of testing, cowboy gear and heaven. All of them are pictures in words of our daily ride through life with Jesus. Finally, the last poem in the book is a sharing of how some people in the world view our heavenly father. The title of the poem is “What Would I Do Without Jesus?” I don’t know the answer to the question nor do I want to know the answer to the question. I always want to be found in the saddle with Jesus.

Accompanied by only his horse and a borrowed pack mule, Mark rode north toward Canada from California's Central Valley carrying no provisions and a question: Is the God of the Bible still God today? He spent the next two and a half months riding over West Coast rivers, mountains, valleys, and rangelands, sleeping in hay barns, praying with strangers, being stripped of self-reliance, and watching God provide for his every need in the most unexpected ways. Written in language kids can understand, and supplemented with footnotes to deepen the story for adult readers, Man on a Horse is a true story of adventure, God's provision, and Jesus's power to touch lives and change hearts today. The power of God's response to Mark's honest question shines through on every page, inspiring faith and a simple love for Jesus in both children and adults.

Book excerpt: USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AND ECPA BESTSELLER • The internationally recognized Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham combines unique biblical insights and her own personal stories to show how the Holy Spirit guides us in our decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times, enriching our daily lives. In Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal journey—including her recent cancer diagnosis—to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. In this seminal teaching, she explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionize how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, “One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life’s journey. Each name that He has been given—Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby—reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion . . . Jesus in me.” Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit—and embrace how much He loves you through His presence, power, and provision in our daily lives. Praise for Jesus in Me “With plentiful biblical references, Lotz encourages those who already rely on Jesus to step into a purpose-filled life led by the Holy’s Spirit’s guidance. Christians who desire to live a life of greater purpose to glorify God will be awed by Lotz’s impassioned exploration of the role of the Holy Spirit in her life.”—Publishers Weekly

Book Archetypes and the Fourth Gospel

Download or read book Archetypes and the Fourth Gospel written by Brian Larsen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employing Northrop Frye's system of archetypal literary criticism - the use of romance, tragedy, irony and satire, and comedy - Brian Larsen offers a compelling summary of the essential governing framework and means of exchange between literature and theology. Characters in the Fourth Gospel are examined through a specific archetype, and, reciprocally, these characters illuminate and inform important theological aspects of their respective archetypes: Jesus and romance (hero story); Pilate and tragedy; the Jews and Thomas and irony; and Peter and comedy. This volume further clarifies the understanding of Frye's archetypesand identifies the key variable between each one: the relationship between (1) a belief or ideal and (2) experience or reality. Helping to advance dialogue between literature, biblical studies and theology, and providing insightful readings for a number of Fourth Gospel characters and texts, Larsen's examination will appeal to those seeking a new perspective on the themes of the New Testament or those seeking theological insights into literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

At some point all of us face times of hardship, suffering, and despair that can turn our lives upside down and break our hearts wide open. During these trials we may feel alone, overwhelmed by circumstances, and afraid that God has abandoned us. In the fog of adversity, we hold our broken hearts in our hands and cry out to God, Why? How could you let this happen? Where were you? Catastrophe can shake the stability of our world, leaving us to wonder about Gods love for us, and raising even more questions. Why am I suffering? Will this trial ever end? How will I get through this? Does God even see me? In Held by God, the authors share their own struggle with these questions as the family travels an uncertain road through three serious medical challenges; catamenial pneumothorax, renal artery stenosis, and cancer. Written in a conversational style that weaves Biblical truths throughout the narrative, the book intertwines the authors story with the accounts of Job, Paul, and King David, among others, to provide unique examples of Gods unchanging character. Understanding Gods faithfulness and recognizing his provision, allows us to find rest during times of turmoil and gives us a hope that endures.

Book Devotions from Moose Manor

Download or read book Devotions from Moose Manor written by Judi Collins and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus never fails. I did. My husband and I had been living large for nearly thirty years and were in debt up to our eyeballs when the housing market crashed. As went the economy, so went my husbands job. Crushed with depression, he left for Hollywood to reinvent himself and his career. I was left with a huge home, a huge debt, two college-aged sons, my husbands eighty-nine-year-old mother who had lived in our home for seventeen years, and a badly bruised self-esteem. Within four months, the bank foreclosed on our debt. I sold what I could, shipped the rest to California, and helped my sons and mother-in-law find places to live. From my crisis came deliverance. From my loneliness came a newfound intimacy with the One who loves me unconditionally. He stands beside me drawing me near to Him in prayer, praise and Bible study, constantly reminding me of the Bible verses I memorized as a child. Each day I see His flavor in my life. God has never left my side. When others ride off into the sunset and you are left without a horse, let the dust settle. Lay down the burden of anger, resentment and fear. You were never meant to carry the heavy load. Jesus has said: My yoke is easy and my burden is light! (Matthew 11:30) Jesus Christ restores through forgiveness: His and yours.
