Book excerpt: Bram Stoker Award Winners Bruce Boston and Alessandro Manzetti combine their poetic and narrative talents in a poetry novella that blends the genres of horror, surrealism, crime, and noir. Set in a large America city, Sacrificial Nights follows the lives of some of those who inhabit its late-night streets: prostitutes, pimps, a thief, an arsonist, a police detective, a psychotic killer, and more. Their tales and the tale of the city itself are richly complemented by British artist Ben Baldwin’s striking illustrations. This is a dark read with some explicit graphic content. “Original, intelligent and exquisitely rendered, Sacrificial Nights is an absolute tour de force, a richly layered Chinese Box of sorts, where each part is as important as the whole. In a world of cookie-cutter plots and tired poetry, Sacrificial Nights is a shot of cool night air, shadowy, dangerous, and addictive as sin.” —Greg F. Gifune, author of The Bleeding Season "When a book is both lucid and hallucinogenic, the effect can be shocking, luminous … transgressive. The collision of talents in this extraordinary work practically establishes a new genre – macabre noir." —Robert Dunbar, author of Willy “Populated by denizens who straddle the line between salvation and damnation, Sacrificial Nightsreads like a flashlight exploration of the darkness lurking behind closed doors and down blind alleys. Boston and Manzetti deftly navigate the shadows where human monsters dwell.” —Michael McBride, author of Subterrestrial

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most ideas of sacrifice, even specifically Christian ideas, as we saw in the Reformation controversies, have something to do with deprivation or destruction. But this is not authentic Christian sacrifice. Authentic Christian sacrifice, and ultimately all true sacrifice (whether one is conscious of it or not) begins with the self-offering of the Father in the gift-sending of the Son, continues with the loving "response" of the Son, in his humanity, and in the Spirit, to the Father and for us, and finally, begins to become real in our world when human beings, in the power of the same Spirit that was in Jesus, respond to love with love, and thus begin to enter into that perfectly loving, totally self-giving relationship that is the life of the triune God. The origins of this are in the Hebrew Bible, its revelatory high-points in Jesus and Paul, and its working out in the life of the Church, especially its Eucharistic Prayers. Special attention will be paid to the atonement, not just because atonement and sacrifice are often synonymous, but also because traditional atonement theology is the source of distortions that continue to plague Christian thinking about sacrifice. After exploring the possibility of finding a phenomenology of sacrificial atonement in Girardian mimetic theory, the book will end with some suggestions on how to communicate its findings to people likely to be put off from the outset by the negative connotations associated with "sacrifice."

Book excerpt: Factual Crucifixion Story (based on new evidence) What incredible events occurred at the Crucifixion that caused a hardened Centurion to proclaim Jesus Christ as the Son of God, knowing that such failed allegiance to Caesar could cost him his life? And it did. —For 2,000 years, powerful messages delivered at the Crucifixion were deliberately hidden. This book reveals those messages, leaving no doubt as to Christ’s true nature and mission. Fictionalized Background Story (based on historical events) —Some leaders of the doomed Third Reich escaped, sparking a frantic hunt. Fueling the hunt was an alleged claim made by Nazi Admiral Doenitz, of an “...invulnerable fortress, a paradise-like oasis in the middle of eternal ice.” Years later, an aging satellite inadvertently detected a cataclysmic event on or near a frozen region of the world, that would have sealed the fate of such a fortress. The event was officially denied. Fiction —As war erupts, former archeologist Zachary “Zac” Gomes is coerced by friends, compelled by an earth-shattering discovery, and finally kidnapped by a secret agency to recover a legendary relic stolen by post-war Nazis. All dedicate themselves in a climactic, must-win battle against an evil the world has (to this day) unwittingly embraced.
