Book excerpt: "Ever wished you could break free of the rat race and pursue what really matters to you? JB Glossinger did just that, exchanging the golden handcuffs of corporate success for a three-hour workday and the freedom to golf, write, spend time with family, and guide others toward realizing their dreams. Now in The Sacred Six: A Simple, Step-by-Step Process for Focusing Your Attention and Recovering Your Dreams, JB offers readers the same simple but powerful tools he used to transform his own life. Grounded in years of coaching groups and individuals, the Sacred Six process leads readers through identifying their mission, values, and goals, then designing an action plan with daily tasks to move them steadily toward their cherished dreams. Practical exercises organized around core Sacred Six principles like focus, clarity, consistency, and prioritization provide support for developing "keystone" positive habits, eliminating blocks to success, and making life-changing decisions from the perspective of the Observer--the true self--rather than the ego. Not just another self-help program, "The Sacred Six process is about more than getting things done," JB emphasizes. "It's about your life story--your journey and your purpose." He calls it sacred because it's a path to full expression of one's values. He identifies six as the "magic number" for managing projects, daily tasks, and one's time. An insightful and entertaining raconteur, JB weaves his personal tale of trials and triumph into his time-tested steps for creating a joyful and fulfilling life. Readers will find the same kind of upbeat, useful advice that draws 15,000 listeners in more than 100 countries to JB's daily 15-minute MorningCoach.com podcast, rated among the top 20 podcasts in the world"--

Book Annunciations Sacred Music for the Twenty First Century

Download or read book Annunciations Sacred Music for the Twenty First Century written by George Corbett and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our contemporary culture is communicating ever-increasingly through the visual, through film, and through music. This makes it ever more urgent for theologians to explore the resources of art for enriching our understanding and experience of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Annunciations: Sacred Music for the twenty-First Century, edited by George Corbett, answers this need, evaluating the relationship between the sacred and the composition, performance, and appreciation of music. Through the theme of ‘annunciations’, this volume interrogates how, when, why, through and to whom God communicates in the Old and New Testaments. In doing so, it tackles the intimate relationship between Scriptural reflection and musical practice in the past, its present condition, and what the future might hold. Annunciations comprises three parts. Part I sets out flexible theological and compositional frameworks for a constructive relationship between the sacred and music. Part II presents the reflections of theologians and composers involved in collaborating on new pieces of sacred choral music, alongside the six new scores and links to the recordings. Part III considers the reality of programming and performing sacred works today. This volume provides an indispensable resource for scholars and artists working at the interface between theology and the arts, and for those involved in sacred music. However, it will also be of interest to anyone concerned with the ways in which the Divine communicates through word and artistry to humanity.

Download or read book Sacred Strategies written by Isa Aron and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010-05-17 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sacred Strategies is about eight synagogues that reached out and helped people connect to Jewish life in a new way—congregations that had gone from commonplace to extraordinary. Over a period of two years, researchers Aron, Cohen, Hoffman, and Kelman interviewed 175 synagogue leaders and a selection of congregants (ranging from intensely committed to largely inactive). They found these congregations shared six traits: sacred purpose, holistic ethos, participatory culture, meaningful engagement, innovation disposition, and reflective leadership and governance. They write for synagogue leaders eager to transform their congregations, federations and foundations interested in encouraging and supporting this transformation, and researchers in congregational studies who will want to explore further. Part 1 of this book demonstrates how these characteristics are exemplified in the four central aspects of synagogue life: worship, learning, community building, and social justice. Part 2 explores questions such as: What enabled some congregations to become visionary? What hindered others from doing so? What advice might we give to congregational, federation, and foundation leaders? The picture that emerges in this book is one of congregations that were entrepreneurial, experimental, and committed to 'something better.'

Book Sacred Pace

  • Author : Terry Looper
  • Publisher : HarperChristian + ORM
  • Release : 2019-02-26
  • ISBN : 078522338X
  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Sacred Pace written by Terry Looper and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we hear from God and discern His will when it’s time to make big decisions? Terry Looper shares a four-step process for doing just that - a process he has learned and refined over thirty years as a Christian entrepreneur and founder of a multi-billion dollar company. At just thirty-six years old, Terry Looper was a successful Christian businessman who thought he had it all—until managing all he had led to a devastating burnout. Wealthy beyond his wildest dreams but miserable beyond belief, Terry experienced a radical transformation when he discovered how to align himself with God’s will in the years following his crash and burn. Sacred Pace is a four-step process that helps Christians in all walks of life learn how to slow down their decision-making under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, sift through their surface desires and sinful patterns in order to receive clear, peace-filled answers from the Lord, gain the confident assurance that God’s answers are His way of fulfilling the true desires he has placed in their hearts, and grow closer to the One who loves them most and knows them best. Sacred Pace is not another example of name-it-and-claim-it materialism in disguise. Instead, it walks Christians through the sometimes-painful process of “dying to self” in their decisions, both big and small, so that they desire God’s will more than their own.

Book excerpt: In Sacred Plunder, David Perry argues that plundered relics, and narratives about them, played a central role in shaping the memorial legacy of the Fourth Crusade and the development of Venice’s civic identity in the thirteenth century. After the Fourth Crusade ended in 1204, the disputes over the memory and meaning of the conquest began. Many crusaders faced accusations of impiety, sacrilege, violence, and theft. In their own defense, they produced hagiographical narratives about the movement of relics—a medieval genre called translatio—that restated their own versions of events and shaped the memory of the crusade. The recipients of relics commissioned these unique texts in order to exempt both the objects and the people involved with their theft from broader scrutiny or criticism. Perry further demonstrates how these narratives became a focal point for cultural transformation and an argument for the creation of the new Venetian empire as the city moved from an era of mercantile expansion to one of imperial conquest in the thirteenth century.

In the revised edition of his hit book The Sacred Search, Gary Thomas helps single people of all ages make wise marital choices by rethinking what basis those choices should be made on. You will be encouraged to think beyond finding your “soul mate” and instead adopt a more biblical search for a “sole mate”—someone who will walk with you on your spiritual journey. Thomas asks, What if we focused on why we should get married more than on who to marry? What if being “in love” isn’t a good enough reason to get married? And most of all, what if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy? The Sacred Search casts a vision for building a relationship around shared spiritual mission—and making marriage with eternity at its heart.
