Book Ezra Pound and the Spanish World

Download or read book Ezra Pound and the Spanish World written by Viorica Patea and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-26 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection offers for the first time criticism, biographical essays, analysis, translation studies, and reminiscences of Ezra Pound’s extensive interaction with Spain and Spanish culture, from his earliest visits to Spain in 1902 and 1906 and his study of significant Spanish writers to the dedication of the first monument erected anywhere to Pound in the small Spanish village of Medinaceli in 1973. Divided into two sections, Part One: “ON EZRA POUND AND THE SPANISH WORLD” includes a general introduction on Pound’s lifelong involvement with Spain, together with chapters on Pound’s study of classical Spanish literature, the Spanish dimension in The Cantos, Pound’s contemporary Spanish connections, and his legacy in contemporary Spanish letters. Part Two: “EZRA POUND AND THE SPANISH WORLD: A READER,” then gathers for the first time Pound’s own writings (postcards, letters, and essays) concerning Spain and Spanish writers, as well as his correspondence with Spanish poets Miguel de Unamuno and Juan Ramón Jiménez and with José Vázquez Amaral, the first Spanish translator of The Cantos in its entirety. The volume includes reminiscences by Spanish Novísimos poets, Antonio Colinas and Jaime Siles, written explicitly for this collection. Besides providing a thorough exploration into Pound’s engagement with Spain, this volume pays homage to Pound’s considerable influence on Spanish culture.

Book Voicing Dissent in Seventeenth century Spain

Download or read book Voicing Dissent in Seventeenth century Spain written by Patricia Manning and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the Spanish Inquisition looms large in many conceptions of the early modern Hispanic world, relatively few studies have been made of the Spanish state and Inquisition s approach to book censorship in the seventeenth century. Merging archival and rare book research with a case study of the fiction of Baltasar Gracián, this book argues that privileged authors, like the Jesuit Gracián, circumvented publication strictures that were meant to ensure that printed materials conformed to the standards of Catholicism and supported the goals of the absolute monarchy. In contrast to some elite authors who composed readily transparent critiques of authorities and encountered difficulties with the state and Inquisition, others, like Gracián, made their criticisms covertly in complicated texts like El Criticón.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Rainer Maria Rilke

Download or read book Rainer Maria Rilke written by Adalberto GarcÍa De Mendoza and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Alchemy of Love

Download or read book Alchemy of Love written by Mateus Soares de Azevedo and published by Sophia Perennis et Universalis. This book was released on 2020-02-11 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spiritual natures of man and woman come to expression in thought, art, craft, and many other domains: from the depths of their soul-spirit constitutions even to the clothes they wear. These natures manifest also in the fullness of love, even unto sexuality, which constitutes an essential and urgent topic of our times, and which harbors also a transcendent dimension, as this book shows. "Extremes meet," says the old adage: in this spirit, the heart of this book consists in showing how the "extremes" of flesh and spirit may join together in the sacralization of love. Providing clear points of reference for safe navigation of the moral wasteland of the modern world, the contributors to this book confront with discernment and courage contemporary views that can undermine the very foundations of civilization. "There is perhaps no field more desacralized today than that of human love. The contemporary reader will discover in this volume of essays by Traditionalist authors a richness and a depth of view that counteracts the various forms of sexual reductionism of modernity."--Patrick Laude, author of the forthcoming Keys to the Beyond: Frithjof Schuon's Cross-Traditional Language of Transcendence "In this unique, fascinating work masters of the Perennial Philosophy such as Frithjof Schuon, Titus Burckhardt, and William Stoddart, together with a new generation of writers, present their insights and conclusions regarding the place of love and sexuality in our spiritual life."--Nuno Almeida, professor at the University of Lisbon "If, as has been said, virtue is the natural state of the soul as God intended it to be, the Fall is the accidental remoteness from such a state. Now, sapiential esoterism has always been there to restore this natural state, and the essays in this collection are aimed at just such a restoration."--Mehrdad M. Zarandi, editor of Science and the Myth of Progress "No topic could be more timely than that of sexuality, and none more misunderstood--for those who celebrate sexual aberrations in our time seem unaware that they are toying with the twin pillars upholding civilization. The contributors to this volume offer us an impressive array of the missing reference points that are almost unfindable elsewhere."--Mark Perry, author of The Mystery of Individuality: Grandeur and Delusion of the Human Condition

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Cave and Cosmos

Download or read book Cave and Cosmos written by Michael Harner and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pioneering author of The Way of the Shaman continues his exploration of universal shamanism in this “wonderful, fascinating” guide (Carlos Castaneda) In 1980, Michael Harner blazed the trail for the worldwide revival of shamanism with his seminal classic The Way of the Shaman. In this long-awaited sequel, he provides new evidence of the reality of heavens. Drawing from a lifetime of personal shamanic experiences and more than 2,500 reports of Westerners’ experiences during shamanic ascension, Harner highlights the striking similarities between their discoveries, indicating that the heavens and spirits they’ve encountered do indeed exist. He also provides instructions on his innovative core-shamanism techniques, so that readers too can ascend to heavenly realms, seek spirit teachers, and return later at will for additional healing and advice. Written by the leading authority on shamanism, Cave and Cosmos is a must-read not only for those interested in shamanism, but also for those interested in spirituality, comparative religion, near-death experiences, healing, consciousness, anthropology, and the nature of reality.
