Book Groundwater Assessment Modeling and Management

Download or read book Groundwater Assessment Modeling and Management written by M. Thangarajan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 858 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your Guide to Effective Groundwater Management Groundwater Assessment, Modeling, and Management discusses a variety of groundwater problems and outlines the solutions needed to sustain surface and ground water resources on a global scale. Contributors from around the world lend their expertise and provide an international perspective on groundwater management. They address the management of groundwater resources and pollution, waste water treatment methods, and the impact of climate change on groundwater and water availability (specifically in arid and semi-arid regions such as India and Africa). Incorporating management with science and modeling, the book covers all areas of groundwater resource assessment, modeling, and management, and combines hands-on applications with relevant theory. For Water Resource Managers and Decision Makers The book describes techniques for the assessment of groundwater potential, pollution, prevention, and remedial measures, and includes a new approach for groundwater modeling based on connections (network theory). Approximately 30 case studies and six hypothetical studies are introduced reflecting a range of themes that include: groundwater basics and the derivation of groundwater flow equations, exploration and assessment, aquifer parameterization, augmentation of aquifer, water and environment, water and agriculture, the role of models and their application, and water management policies and issues. The book describes remote sensing (RS) applications, geographical information systems (GIS), and electrical resistivity methods to delineate groundwater potential zones. It also takes a look at: Inverse modeling (pilot-points method) Simulation optimization models Radionuclide migration studies through mass transport modeling Modeling for mapping groundwater potential Modeling for vertical 2-D and 3-D groundwater flow Groundwater Assessment, Modeling, and Management explores the management of water resources and the impact of climate change on groundwater. Expert contributors provide practical information on hydrologic engineering and groundwater resources management for students, researchers, scientists, and other practicing professionals in environmental engineering, hydrogeology, irrigation, geophysics, and environmental science.

Book Managing Water in River Basins

Download or read book Managing Water in River Basins written by M. Dinesh Kumar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-23 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth analysis of existing methods of water management and highlights the gaps in the use of water in various river basins. Underlying the futility of 'quick fix' solutions, it puts forward various alternative strategies for water management. Using illustrative case studies, the author lists major challenges in water management: productivity improvement in key-use sectors, inter-sectoral allocation, trans-boundary resource management, and availability in deficient regions. Highlighting the opportunities for improving water productivity in agriculture, he also provides methodologies for generating country- and regional-level water balance scenarios. The volume also discusses the problems involved in allocating water in river basins. Kumar gives a detailed account of some of the widely known economic tools. He examines the institutional and policy measures for ensuring sustainable use of water and economic growth, including the creation of new organizations.

Book Groundwater Intensive Use

Download or read book Groundwater Intensive Use written by Andrés Sahuquillo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-06-30 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intensive use of groundwater has resolved the demand for drinking water and, through irrigation, has contributed to the eradication of malnourishment in many developing countries. The spectacular worldwide increase in groundwater use in the last decades, especially in arid and semi-arid regions, has been a silent revolution carried out by millions of small farmers. In some instances, groundwater abstraction has caused problems of quality degradation, excessive drawdown of groundwater levels, land subsidence, reduction of spring and baseflows or degradation of groundwater-dependent ecosystems. Most of these problems could be anticipated, mitigated, or even avoided with more active water agencies, adequate regulations and users’ participation in management. Groundwater Intensive Use contains a selection of papers presented at a symposium held in December 2002 in Valencia, Spain. It constitutes a step forward in creating a greater worldwide awareness of the relevance of groundwater in water resources policy. The book presents new ideas and accounts of recent advances in technical, economic, legal, administrative and political issues. It addresses groundwater development to ecosystems sustainability, through different or complementary approaches. A wide series of case studies from North and South America, Europe, South Asia and North and Sub-Saharan Africa cover the various issues. These case studies represent countries with a wide diversity of social circumstances, from areas in which development is emerging, to communities with a long history of successful groundwater use.

Book Water Resource Management in South Asia

Download or read book Water Resource Management in South Asia written by Anjal Prakash and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-05-29 with total page 1428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cluster of books presents innovative and nuanced knowledge on water resources, based on detailed case studies from South Asia—India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In providing comprehensive analyses of the existing economic, demographic and ideological contexts in which water policies are framed and implemented, the volumes argue for alternative, informed and integrated approaches towards efficient management and equitable distribution of water. These also explore the globalization of water governance in the region, particularly in relation to new paradigms of neoliberalism, civil society participation, integrated water resource management (IWRM), public–private partnerships, privatization, and gender mainstreaming. These volumes will be indispensable for scholars and students of development studies, environmental studies, natural resource management, governance and public administration, particularly those working on water resources in South Asia. They will also be useful for policymakers and governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Book Spatial Variation in Water Supply and Demand Across River Basins of India

Download or read book Spatial Variation in Water Supply and Demand Across River Basins of India written by Upali Amarasinghe and published by IWMI. This book was released on 2005 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is a large country with regional differences in per-capita water supply and demand. Attempts to describe the water situation in India at a national level are often misleading due to the tremendous diversity in the water situation across the country. This Report analyzes the spatial variation of water supply and demand across river basins in India. The study identifies basins that are water-scarce because of inadequate water availability to meet the effective demand. It also identifies issues that are important for estimating the future water demand and for the formation of policy for future water-resources development and management.
