Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Being the Body of Christ in the Age of Management

Download or read book Being the Body of Christ in the Age of Management written by Lyndon Shakespeare and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-08-26 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The church needs effective leaders." "We must be more missional." "Better organization is required." Such sentiments are commonplace among Christians concerned with the health and sustainability of their local church as well as the church universal. Over the past thirty years, the desire for more efficiently run, effectively led, and organizationally sound churches has contributed to an approach to thinking about the church in terms uncritically assumed from the business and management sector. This has given rise to treating the church as if it were just another social body in need of better organization. The question is, what happens when we apply the logic of management techniques to an organization that identifies as the body of Christ? Drawing on organizational theory, theological anthropology, and sacramental theology, this book navigates a path for Christians that avoids reducing the church to just another organization, while providing a vision for the church as the social body where all are invited to connect and be made members of Christ and each other. Such a vision provides an alternative to the social categorization that would define the church by its organizational character rather than its eschatological destiny.

Book excerpt: Coredemption as Key to a Correct Understanding of Redemption Originally presented as Acts of the Marian Symposium in Fatima, Portugal in the year 2007, addresses central Christological issues bearing on the meaning and consequences of the Redemption, those arising from an incorrect or total lack of understanding of the mystery of Marian coredemption. Such aberrations as patripassianism, liberation theology, Kantian transcendentalism substituted for scholastic metaphysics, soteriological substitutionism and the Protestant solus, reflect a deeply rooted Marian minimalism and rejection of Mary’s prerogative as Coredemptrix.

Book Systematic Mariology

Download or read book Systematic Mariology written by Peter Damian Fehlner and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-08-14 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of Collected Essays, Systematic Mariology, contains Peter Damian Fehlner’s essays on several central Marian topics and disputes. Written over the span of more than twenty years, these essays represent Fehlner’s most complete studies on the question of Mary’s participation with Christ in the redemption, her role with the Holy Spirit in the mediation of grace, and her place in the sacramental economy, flowing from the Eucharist. Fehlner provides theological resolutions to these inquiries by establishing Mary’s predestination as the Immaculate Mother of God and Spouse of the Holy Spirit in the eternal plan of the Father. This flowers into a theological vision of the divine missions that is Trinitarian, christological, and pneumatological. This triple viewpoint opens upon a theological account of divine action and perfect creaturely re-action because it is framed within an ecclesiology that decodes Mary’s virginal and divine maternity as the “Great Sign” of the perfection and promise of the church through Christ her spouse in the love of the Holy Spirit.

Inquiry into the biblical dimensions of the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas is an area of theological scholarship that has seen tremendous development in the past century. The argument of this study is that this development has been limited by an approach that has often isolated Thomas' exegetical principles and even techniques from the in-depth exploration of Thomas' actual exegetical practice. Consequently, much of the unique value of Thomas' biblical commentaries has yet to be appreciated. Part I focuses on Thomas as an exegete and interpreter of Sacred Scripture. Chapter I is a consideration of Thomas' understanding of both the Bible and the art of interpretation in an attempt to discover how Thomas' presuppositions affect his exegesis. In the second chapter criticisms of Thomas as exegete are examined. Part II consists of an application of this approach to Thomas' Ephesians Lectura. Chapter IV-VI are an analysis of this commentary from the standpoint of the theme Thomas detects in the Epistle - the origination of ecclesial unity. This analysis offers evidence that an approach to Thomas' biblical commentaries which respects their status as such has much to demostrate regarding contemporary access to Thomas' thought and the unity of exegesis and theology. The final chapter contains a summary and an exploration of the implications of the Lectura for contemporary scholarship.
