Book Handbook of Research on the Role of Libraries Archives and Museums in Achieving Civic Engagement and Social Justice in Smart Cities

Download or read book Handbook of Research on the Role of Libraries Archives and Museums in Achieving Civic Engagement and Social Justice in Smart Cities written by Taher, Mohamed and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In achieving civic engagement and social justice in smart cities, literacy programs are offered in the society by three essential information service providers: libraries, archives, and museums. Although the library and museum services are documented in literature, there is little evidence of community-led library or museum services that make a full circle in understanding community-library, community-archive, and community-museum relationships. The Handbook of Research on the Role of Libraries, Archives, and Museums in Achieving Civic Engagement and Social Justice in Smart Cities examines the application of tools and techniques in library and museum literacy in achieving civic engagement and social justice. It also introduces a new outlook in the services of libraries and museums. Covering topics such as countering fake news, human rights literacies, and outreach activities, this book is essential for community-based organizations, librarians, museum administrations, education leaders, information professionals, smart city design planners, digital tool developers, policymakers engaged in diversity, researchers, and academicians.

Book Everything Is Miscellaneous

Download or read book Everything Is Miscellaneous written by David Weinberger and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business visionary and bestselling author David Weinberger shows how the digital revolution is radically changing the way we make sense of our lives Human beings are information omnivores: we are constantly collecting, labeling, and organizing data. But today, the shift from the physical to the digital is mixing, burning, and ripping our lives apart. In the past, everything had its one place—the physical world demanded it—but now everything has its places: multiple categories, multiple shelves. Simply put, everything is suddenly miscellaneous. In Everything Is Miscellaneous, David Weinberger charts the new principles of digital order that are remaking business, education, politics, science, and culture. In his rollicking tour of the rise of the miscellaneous, he examines why the Dewey decimal system is stretched to the breaking point, how Rand McNally decides what information not to include in a physical map (and why Google Earth is winning that battle), how Staples stores emulate online shopping to increase sales, why your children's teachers will stop having them memorize facts, and how the shift to digital music stands as the model for the future in virtually every industry. Finally, he shows how by "going miscellaneous," anyone can reap rewards from the deluge of information in modern work and life. From A to Z, Everything Is Miscellaneous will completely reshape the way you think—and what you know—about the world.

Book Library Administration

Download or read book Library Administration written by S. R. Ranganathan and published by Ess Ess Publications. This book was released on 2006-08 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Works of Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (S.R. Ranganathan) need no introduction. They are renowned not because they cover certain facet of library and information science, but because they have been written by the father of library science in india, Dr. Ranganathan. These library science classics have been reprinted to make Dr. Ranganathan's work available to the current generation of librarians and for those to come. The book is a remarkable illustration of the application of systems analysis, study of work flow, and time and motion study to libraries. It also illustrates the need for the library manager and management to pay attention to the minutae of library work and at the same to have a holistic view of library's functions. It is only very appropriate that Ranganathan provides an extract from the 'Mother' (page 66-72) by the mystic Shri Aurobindo to support this holistic approach to library administration.

The Birth Centenary Celebrations of this.World librarian" were the Third International Conference of Informetrics in August, 1991 at Bangalore. In 1992, a spurt of activities started by library Science Schools, library associations and various other bodies to celebrate his Birth Centenary in variety of ways and befitting manner, such as organisation of seminars and lectures, release of stamp, bust installation and the like, including organisation of IFLA Annual conference in India at the time of 58th IFLA General Conferring in 1992 to mark Ranganathan's Birth Centenary year. The birth Centenary year produced a plethora of library and information literature.
