Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended both as a textbook and as a reference book for students and professionals interested in building mechanical and electrical systems. With a complete and practical introduction to the design of mechanical and electrical systems in buildings, the text successfully bridges the gap between architecture, civil engineering technology, and construction management. This edition has two new chapters: Chapter 1 covers topics that are relevant for all the mechanical and electrical systems covered in subsequent chapters. This chapter describes the: basics of energy required to understand mechanical and electrical systems how mechanical and electrical systems affect the design of buildings sustainable design principles basic commissioning economics of building operations tools for evaluating options by economics and quality Chapter 19 is entitled "Architectural Accommodation and Coordination of Mechanical and Electrical Systems." This chapter is written for readers who are involved in planning, design and construction to help them gain an early understanding of: what spaces are required for mechanical and electrical systems how to allocate area where best to locate systems and equipment what construction details are important to make systems work as intended The chapter covers topics that can be problematic if they are not addressed and resolved early in the design.

  • Author : Michel Foucault
  • Publisher : Verso Books
  • Release : 2016-09-01
  • ISBN : 1784786403
  • Pages : 485 pages

Download or read book Abnormal written by Michel Foucault and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three decades after his death, Michel Foucault remains one of the towering intellectual figures of the last half-century. His works on sexuality, madness, the prison, and medicine are enduring classics. From 1971 until his death in 1984, Foucault gave public lectures at the famous Collge de France. These seminal events, attended by thousands, created the benchmarks for contemporary social enquiry. The lectures comprising Abnormal begin by examining the role of psychiatry in modern criminal justice, and its method of categorising individuals who "resemble their crime before they commit it." Building on the themes of societal self-defence developed in earlier works, Foucault shows how defining "normality" became a prerogative of power in the nineteenth century, shaping the institutions-from the prisons to the family-meant to deal with "monstrosity," whether sexual, physical, or spiritual. The Collge de France lectures add immeasurably to our appreciation and understanding of Foucault's thought.

Book Martingales in Banach Spaces

Download or read book Martingales in Banach Spaces written by Gilles Pisier and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the major applications of martingales to the geometry of Banach spaces, and a substantial discussion of harmonic analysis in Banach space valued Hardy spaces is also presented. It covers exciting links between super-reflexivity and some metric spaces related to computer science, as well as an outline of the recently developed theory of non-commutative martingales, which has natural connections with quantum physics and quantum information theory. Requiring few prerequisites and providing fully detailed proofs for the main results, this self-contained study is accessible to graduate students with a basic knowledge of real and complex analysis and functional analysis. Chapters can be read independently, with each building from the introductory notes, and the diversity of topics included also means this book can serve as the basis for a variety of graduate courses.

Book The Analysis of Fractional Differential Equations

Download or read book The Analysis of Fractional Differential Equations written by Kai Diethelm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-08-18 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractional calculus was first developed by pure mathematicians in the middle of the 19th century. Some 100 years later, engineers and physicists have found applications for these concepts in their areas. However there has traditionally been little interaction between these two communities. In particular, typical mathematical works provide extensive findings on aspects with comparatively little significance in applications, and the engineering literature often lacks mathematical detail and precision. This book bridges the gap between the two communities. It concentrates on the class of fractional derivatives most important in applications, the Caputo operators, and provides a self-contained, thorough and mathematically rigorous study of their properties and of the corresponding differential equations. The text is a useful tool for mathematicians and researchers from the applied sciences alike. It can also be used as a basis for teaching graduate courses on fractional differential equations.

Book On the Geometry of Diffusion Operators and Stochastic Flows

Download or read book On the Geometry of Diffusion Operators and Stochastic Flows written by K.D. Elworthy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-01-05 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic differential equations, and Hoermander form representations of diffusion operators, can determine a linear connection associated to the underlying (sub)-Riemannian structure. This is systematically described, together with its invariants, and then exploited to discuss qualitative properties of stochastic flows, and analysis on path spaces of compact manifolds with diffusion measures. This should be useful to stochastic analysts, especially those with interests in stochastic flows, infinite dimensional analysis, or geometric analysis, and also to researchers in sub-Riemannian geometry. A basic background in differential geometry is assumed, but the construction of the connections is very direct and itself gives an intuitive and concrete introduction. Knowledge of stochastic analysis is also assumed for later chapters.

Book A Pythagorean Introduction to Number Theory

Download or read book A Pythagorean Introduction to Number Theory written by Ramin Takloo-Bighash and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right triangles are at the heart of this textbook’s vibrant new approach to elementary number theory. Inspired by the familiar Pythagorean theorem, the author invites the reader to ask natural arithmetic questions about right triangles, then proceeds to develop the theory needed to respond. Throughout, students are encouraged to engage with the material by posing questions, working through exercises, using technology, and learning about the broader context in which ideas developed. Progressing from the fundamentals of number theory through to Gauss sums and quadratic reciprocity, the first part of this text presents an innovative first course in elementary number theory. The advanced topics that follow, such as counting lattice points and the four squares theorem, offer a variety of options for extension, or a higher-level course; the breadth and modularity of the later material is ideal for creating a senior capstone course. Numerous exercises are included throughout, many of which are designed for SageMath. By involving students in the active process of inquiry and investigation, this textbook imbues the foundations of number theory with insights into the lively mathematical process that continues to advance the field today. Experience writing proofs is the only formal prerequisite for the book, while a background in basic real analysis will enrich the reader’s appreciation of the final chapters.

This book was released on 2014-12-15 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Adaptation to Spaceflight: The Role of Nutrition reflects a (brief) review of the history of and current state of knowledge about the role of nutrition in human space flight. We have attempted to morganize this from a more physiological point of view, and to highlight systems, and the nutrients that support them, rather than the other way around. We hope we have captured in this book the state of the field of study of the role of human nutrition in space flight, along with the work leading up to this state, and some guideposts for work remaining to be done and gaps that need to be filled. Book Random Walks on Infinite Graphs and Groups

Download or read book Random Walks on Infinite Graphs and Groups written by Wolfgang Woess and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-13 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this book is the interplay between the behaviour of a class of stochastic processes (random walks) and discrete structure theory. The author considers Markov chains whose state space is equipped with the structure of an infinite, locally finite graph, or as a particular case, of a finitely generated group. The transition probabilities are assumed to be adapted to the underlying structure in some way that must be specified precisely in each case. From the probabilistic viewpoint, the question is what impact the particular type of structure has on various aspects of the behaviour of the random walk. Vice-versa, random walks may also be seen as useful tools for classifying, or at least describing the structure of graphs and groups. Links with spectral theory and discrete potential theory are also discussed. This book will be essential reading for all researchers working in stochastic process and related topics.
