Book Political Economy of the Tokyo Olympics

Download or read book Political Economy of the Tokyo Olympics written by Miyo Aramata and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an analysis of both contemporary Tokyo and the contemporary Olympic Games, emphasizing the role of late-stage capitalism and political economy in shaping both. The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games were mired in scandal from the beginning of the bidding process all the way through to the end of the games. This was further exacerbated by the emergency postponement to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many public opinion polls supporting further postponement or cancelation in 2021. The contributors to this volume look at the Tokyo 2020 Games in the context of other modern games and the struggle to use the games as an economic stimulus. They reveal the reality of the Olympic development in Tokyo based on evidence and concrete policy analysis. This is a valuable resource for scholars both of contemporary Japan and of the Olympics and other mega-events.

Download or read book The Empty Museum written by Masaaki Morishita and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the processes through which public art museums, as modern Western institutions, were introduced to Japan in the late nineteenth century and how they subsequently developed distinctive national characteristics. The author focuses on one of the most distinctive forms of Japanese museums: the 'empty museums' - museums without collections, permanent displays, and curators. Morishita shows how they developed, in relation to social and cultural conditions at certain periods in modern Japanese history, by engaging with a wide range of interdisciplinary theories, in particular, Pierre Bourdieu's field theory and the conceptual framework of transculturation. Japan is used as a case study to show in general terms how the elements of modern Western culture associated with public art museums were introduced and transformed in the local conditions of non-Western regions. With its unique empirical cases and theoretical focus, the book makes a significant contribution to existing literature in the field of museum studies, both in the English-speaking world and in Japan, and will be of interest to scholars and students of sociology, art history, cultural studies and Japanese studies.

Book Axiomatic Theory of Economics

Download or read book Axiomatic Theory of Economics written by Victor Aguilar and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about economic theory. It is not, however, a simplified version of mainstream economics; mainstream economics is simpleminded enough already. It is certainly not in the "how to be a salesman" genre, nor does it propose to tell the reader how to make money in the framework of current financial institutions. It is an abstract treatise. The purpose of this book is to give an axiomatic foundation for the theory of economics.
