Download or read book The Collection of Short Stories for Children and Young Adults written by Joseph Pagan and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I originally began creating childrens stories when I was a child myself. After I had grown up and was on a camping trip with three young children, they asked me to tell them a story. That gave rise to this book. The first five stories in this collection were written for children and with the interaction and help of children. The children suggested characters, places, and other elements that added to the completion of these stories. It is my hope that a lot of sleepyheads will enjoy them. The other six stories were written later. They are targeted for young adults and are, for the most part, adaptations of my unpublished screenplays. These I wrote while studying filmmaking in college. All the stories in this book were meant to be enjoyed and, maybe, give the readers a chuckle or two, some fun and exciting reading!

Download or read book Image of the Other and the Self in the American and British press during the Gulf Crisis and War written by Ingrid Deweweire and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The invasion of Kuwait by Iraqi troops on 2 August 1990 triggered a large-scale military operation conducted by Washington as well as a huge media campaign. This study seeks to compare the American press with the British press during the Gulf Crisis and War. The main objective is to examine the journalistic discourse of opinion as developed by newspapers belonging to the so-called quality press and deconstruct the ways in which this discourse was developed. This raises questions about the language adopted by editorialists and journalists and in particular about the way in which the Other - enemy and allies - and the Self - the USA and the UK - were described by the American daily papers, the New York Times and the Washington Post and the British daily papers, the Times and the Guardian and the Sunday newspapers, the Sunday Times and the Observer during the crisis and the war. The study is based on a comparative analysis of editorials, opinion articles and letters to the editor published in the selected newspapers in order to highlight subjects and themes in connection with the image of the Other and the Self and show the differences and similarities in the processing of information in both the American and British press.
Download or read book The Billy the Kid Reader written by Frederick Nolan and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2014-10-20 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the countless books and films devoted to him, Billy the Kid remains one of the most elusive figures of the Old West. Now, award-winning western historian Frederick Nolan has scoured the published literature to offer this well-rounded compendium on the life and times of William H. Bonney. The Billy the Kid Reader contains some of the best articles on the Kid—including gems no longer in print. From the first dime novel that appeared shortly after his death to the research of today’s historians, these writings bring Bonney’s life into sharp focus. Nolan highlights two distinct schools of Billy the Kid studies: works of popularizers who tended to exaggerate his historical role, and the findings of grassroots researchers who have reassessed our perceptions of the Kid. Dozens of illustrations enhance the text, illuminating the Kid’s career and notoriety. This collection shows that the life of William H. Bonney is not yet a closed book—far from it. Many versions of his life remain little more than unchallenged tradition. The Billy the Kid Reader puts that lengthy body of work in perspective and will satisfy seasoned Kid aficionados as well as first-time readers eager to learn more about the man and the legend.
Download or read book Billy the Kid written by Richard W. Etulain and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A central character in legends and histories of the Old West, Billy the Kid rivals such western icons as Jesse James and General George Armstrong Custer for the number of books and movies his brief, violent life inspired. Billy the Kid: A Reader’s Guide introduces readers to the most significant of these written and filmed works. Compiled and written by a respected historian of the Old West and author of a masterful new biography of Billy the Kid, this reader’s guide includes summaries and evaluations of biographies, histories, novels, and movies, as well as archival sources and research collections. Surveying newspaper articles, books, pamphlets, essays, and book chapters, Richard W. Etulain traces the shifting views of Billy the Kid from his own era to the present. Etulain’s discussion of novels and movies reveals a similar shift, even as it points out both the historical inaccuracies and the literary and cinematic achievements of these works. A brief section on the authentic and supposed photographs of the Kid demonstrates the difficulties specialists and collectors have encountered in locating dependable photographic sources. This discerning overview will guide readers through the plethora of words and images generated by Billy the Kid’s life and legend over more than a century. It will prove invaluable to those interested in the demigods of the Old West—and in the ever-changing cultural landscape in which they appear to us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to historical mysteries, Texas offers numerous long-perplexing conundrums for readers. Several of the Lone Star State’s enduring legends are associated with historical figures including Davy Crockett, Billy the Kid, John Wilkes Booth, the outlaws Sam Bass and Bill Longley, and the pirate Jean Lafitte. Lost mines and buried treasures are also a long-standing part of Texas history and lore, and the location of several of these riches has baffled searches for well over a century. Searches for these elusive treasures, represented by gold and silver ingots and coins, have ranged from Texas’s mountain ranges to the prairies to the coast, and continue to this day. Texas may also have been the site of several “lost civilizations. Growing evidence suggests that Mayans, a culture long associated with southern Mexican and Central America, may have established settlements in the state after having disappeared from their homeland. The Caddo Mounds spread out over a large section of southeast Texas represent what amounted of a city that was once inhabited by thousands of natives. The questions of where they came from and what became of them continue to intrigue researchers. In Unsolved Mysteries of Texas, author and professional treasure hunter W.C. Jameson will cover these and many other mysterious happenings in the Lone Star State.
