Through her photography, author Julie Bronson takes readers on a journey to some of the rusting relics stationed at various locations in the North Star State. Many only see beautiful old cars after they have been restored, and fail to realize that many weren't as fortunate. Book Torrent Rust Relics Book 1

Download or read book Torrent Rust Relics Book 1 written by Lindsay Buroker and published by Lindsay Buroker. This book was released on 2013-06-28 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Delia chose to major in archaeology, she imagined herself as the female Indiana Jones of the Southwest. She didn't imagine herself crawling through abandoned mine shafts, scrounging for rusty pickaxes and gold pans to sell on auction sites, but Indiana Jones didn't have to make student loan payments. Scouring the mountains of Arizona with Simon, her best friend and computer geek extraordinaire, Delia dreams of turning their scavenging enterprise into a legitimate business. More, she longs to earn the respect of peers who shun her for turning into a treasure hunter. What she doesn't dream of is stumbling across a decapitated body in an old mine near Prescott. Something dangerous has come to the mountains, and a pair of Harley-riding strangers are the only ones who seem to have a clue. They speak a language Delia has never heard and carry mysterious artifacts she's never seen. Investigating these strangers might lead her to discoveries that change the face of archaeology forever... or it might lead her and her best friend into a deadly monster's lair.

Book Junkyards Gearheads and Rust

Download or read book Junkyards Gearheads and Rust written by David N. Lucsko and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2016-05-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material appeal of the automobile junkyard goes beyond the search for second-hand parts. What happens to automobiles after they are retired but before they are processed as scrap? In this fascinating history, David N. Lucsko takes readers on a tour of salvage yards and wrecked or otherwise out-of-service cars in the United States from the point of view of gearheads—the hot rodders, restoration hobbyists, street rodders, and classic car devotees who reuse, repurpose, and restore junked cars. Junkyards, Gearheads, and Rust is a nuanced exploration of the business of dismantling wrecks and selling second-hand parts. It examines the reinterpretation of these cars and parts by artists as well as their restoration by enthusiasts. It also surveys the origin and evolution of gearhead-oriented yards that specialize in specific types of automobiles; dissects the material and emotional appeal of the salvage yard and its contents among enthusiasts; and examines how zoning and nuisance ordinances have affected both salvage businesses and hobbyists. Lucsko concludes with an analysis of efforts during the last twenty-five years to hasten vehicular obsolescence at the expense of salvage yards, mechanics, and enthusiasts. By examining how cars are salvaged, repurposed, and restored, this book demonstrates that the history of the automobile is much more than a running catalog of showroom novelties.

Book McGonagall s Morning Musings

Download or read book McGonagall s Morning Musings written by Brent E. White and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Punctuation, and especially line breaks, causes an unconscious, momentary pause in our thought processes. This mental blink is when neural pathways reroute from merely reading and goes through the cognitive parts of our brain. This aids in comprehension and memory. Do your own research! With this realization I decided to begin breaking my essays down into verse, with the line breaks strategically placed to cause the reader to pause and ponder. It should be no secret that ADHD kids are quite often the smartest kids in the class, but get the lowest grades. This technique of breaking things down into smaller bits has had fairly dramatic and positive results for my students. I am frankly flabbergasted as to why Special Ed. teachers don't use this technique. Having said that, my verse is not the most horrible in the galaxy - the second worst, at best. I'm hiding under the McGonagall moniker from the Galactic Gendarmes who have declared jihad against my musings. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Book Lemmon

Download or read book Lemmon written by Don Widener and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-07-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lemmon’s scenes are alternately funny, sad, wild, tender, adding up to the rollicking story of the boy with the face that any mother could love who became the man who had the “grace to make a fool of himself” and the talent to pull it off. Packed with outrageous tales that never made the pages of Variety or the Hollywood gossip columns, Lemmon sparkles with the verve and humor characteristic of his most memorable stage and screen performances. Lemmon is far more than a biography of the lovable, bumbling “loser” who “falls on a fumble into the end zone and wins the game.” It is a front-row view of the long pull towards stardom that an outstanding actor, equally skilled at comedy and serious drama, richly deserved. And maintains.

Book excerpt: Christian Berndt investigates how selected corporate actors in German small and medium-sized enterprises and in large companies respond to globalisation and the apparent crisis of the German model. By exploring the role of economic and non-economic factors in shaping business strategies he argues that, rather than simply being formal opposites, forces of dynamic change and irrational persistence are intertwined.
