Book The Russian Outbound Travel Market

Download or read book The Russian Outbound Travel Market written by World Tourism Organization and published by World Tourism Organization Publications. This book was released on 2009 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian Federation is currently one of the world's fastest growing outbound travel markets, and this growth seems set to continue. Russia is the ninth biggest outbound travel market in the world in terms of expenditure, generating US$ 22.3 billion in spending abroad and 34.3 million outbound trips in 2007. While trip volume rose by 9.4% per year over the period 2000-2007, expenditure increased by an average of 14 % annually during that period. There is no doubt that Russians are very enthusiastic travellers, largely due to the pent-up demand for foreign travel. To better understand the structure and trends of this market is the aim of the new ETC/UNWTO report The Russian Outbound Travel Market with a Special Insight into the Image of Europe as a Destination. This report identifies key trends in Russia outbound travel over the past five years or more - including the market's size and value, growth in trip volume and spending, purpose of trip, the structure and role of the travel trade, online distribution, and other factors driving demand. In addition, the report provides information on government policy affecting outbound travel, notably visa issues and traffic rights for foreign airlines operating to/from the country. All this information is critical to helping NTAs/NTOs and commercial operators plan ahead with greater foresight, providing guidance on both the short-term opportunities and the longer-term potential for investment in the Russian market.

Download or read book Travels in Siberia written by Ian Frazier and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2010-10-12 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dazzling Russian travelogue from the bestselling author of Great Plains In his astonishing new work, Ian Frazier, one of our greatest and most entertaining storytellers, trains his perceptive, generous eye on Siberia, the storied expanse of Asiatic Russia whose grim renown is but one explanation among hundreds for the region's fascinating, enduring appeal. In Travels in Siberia, Frazier reveals Siberia's role in history—its science, economics, and politics—with great passion and enthusiasm, ensuring that we'll never think about it in the same way again. With great empathy and epic sweep, Frazier tells the stories of Siberia's most famous exiles, from the well-known—Dostoyevsky, Lenin (twice), Stalin (numerous times)—to the lesser known (like Natalie Lopukhin, banished by the empress for copying her dresses) to those who experienced unimaginable suffering in Siberian camps under the Soviet regime, forever immortalized by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in The Gulag Archipelago. Travels in Siberia is also a unique chronicle of Russia since the end of the Soviet Union, a personal account of adventures among Russian friends and acquaintances, and, above all, a unique, captivating, totally Frazierian take on what he calls the "amazingness" of Russia—a country that, for all its tragic history, somehow still manages to be funny. Travels in Siberia will undoubtedly take its place as one of the twenty-first century's indispensable contributions to the travel-writing genre.

Book Moscow

  • Release : 2003-07-01

  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Moscow written by Laurence Kelly and published by . This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moscow, founded in 1147, was in thrall to other nations for much of its early history: to the Khans, the Tartars, the Poles. Fires swept through it time and again, and with each rebuilding, it seemed, two churches replaced one. Russia was a totalitarian theocracy until the late 17th century when the Tsar took for himself the God-like power of life and death over his subjects. Holy Russia, with its icons, liturgy, and packed congregations, is among much that this anthology recreates for visitors to modern Russian. Extracts are arranged chronologically, and in 4 sections relating to the Kremlin, Moscow beyond the Kremlin, palaces and convents outside Moscow, and Moscow life and customs. "An enthralling, vivid, and panoramic view of one of the greatest cities on earth."
