Book Data Needs for Assessing Rural Transit Needs Benefits and Levels of Service

Download or read book Data Needs for Assessing Rural Transit Needs Benefits and Levels of Service written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This digest presents the results of National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 20-65, Task 36, Data Needs for Assessing Rural Transit Needs, Benefits, and Levels of Service. The primary objectives of this project were to (1) review the data elements currently reported in the Rural National Transit Database (NTD) and identify data elements that are needed to record pre- and post-service change information; and (2) identify potential levels of service (LOS) options that are more accurate or useful for future evaluation of rural service. The concept of LOS can be applied to many aspects of public transit services. In this report, the expression refers to measures of service availability from the passenger's perspective. Additionally, the project called for options for using the data elements and measures of LOS from other readily available data to conduct rural transit needs assessment and performance analysis. The researchers also developed draft tools to help state departments of transportation understand the effects of various service types and levels on rural communities.

Book Progress in Sustainable Mobility Research

Download or read book Progress in Sustainable Mobility Research written by Jorge Marx Gómez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2022-05-25 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the outcomes of the trans- and interdisciplinary research project NEMo (Nachhaltige Erfüllung von Mobilitätsbedürfnissen im ländlichen Raum - Sustainable Fulfilment of Mobility Needs in Rural Areas). Due to demographic change, it is becoming increasingly difficult for rural districts and communities to maintain a basic set of public transport services such as bus and train transit without encountering issues regarding necessary social participation, sensible regional value creation and, last but not least, achievable environmental protection goals. At the same time, the demand for mobility in rural areas will continue to rise in the future, e.g. due to the concentration of medical care facilities and shopping centres close to cities. Focusing on the development of sustainable and innovative mobility services and business models, this book explains how new mobility offers can be created in which citizens themselves become mobility providers. To do so, it combines the findings of the individual research groups with external contributions from science and practice.
