Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Need of New Blood in Southern Agriculture; The Pioneer Co-Operative Credit Associations in the United States; Co-Operation as a Training School in Business Methods: Addresses One of the most marked benefits resulting from these credit unions is the virtual stamping out of usury in the communities in which they exist. The farmer finding no difficulty in obtaining a moderate loan for productive purposes quickly and cheaply, no longer has to depend upon the generosity of the neighbors, the forbearance of the local storekeepers, or the cupidity of the usurer. However, not the least important is the moral and educational value of these credit unions. They teach their members busi ness methods and self-government. They imbue them with self reliance and self-respect. They endow them with a high sense of mutual responsibility, stimulate them to further efforts in the direction of co-operation and mutual self-help, and make them better farmers and better citizens. Book The Credit Association as an Agency for Rural Short Time Credit Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Credit Association as an Agency for Rural Short Time Credit Classic Reprint written by Victor Nelson Valgren and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Credit Association as an Agency for Rural Short-Time Credit State, and also to invest in the shares of such unions. The laws of Massachusetts and North Carolina, however, limit such investment. In shares to 20 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively, of the investing association's capital and surplus. The Massachusetts law, in addition, provides that one association may purchase the bonds of other credit associations. The laws of six States - Rhode Island, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Utah, and Texas, do not specifically authorize the use of funds in this manner, but neither is there any provision in these laws which would seem to prohibit such action. Interunion ao commodation of the kinds above mentioned may be made decidedly helpful, since some. Of these organizations are handicapped by their limited funds available for loans, while others, particularly city unions, frequently have a surplus of funds on hand. Even where the privilege clearly exists, however, little use has as yet been made of it, since the officials of unions have apparently preferred to deposit their surplus funds with a local bank or to invest them in Government bonds. This attitude may, in part, be explained by the fact that the different unions or associations have not as yet had time to become acquainted with each other or to establish reputations extending out side of their own localities. Book The Principles of Rural Credits

Download or read book The Principles of Rural Credits written by James Bale Morman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Rural Credits: As Applied in Europe and as Suggested for America This is what I have sought to do in the following pages. Europe is the recognized practical field where all phases of rural credit can be found in operation. But conditions of rural life are not comparable on the two continents. It is evident, therefore, that whatever is done for organiz ing rural credit in the United States and Canada, must be an adaptation of the European system. To this end, it seems probable that legislative action will soon be more pronounced as a result of the growing interest in rural credits. But to act wisely in the matter, legislators should have before them all essential facts relating to different ways of financing farmers. It has been my aim to present these facts in as concise a form as possible not only for legislators, but for our farmers and the general public. Experience has shown that this type of credit union, organized principally by employees of industrial con cerns, has been uniformly successful and has resulted in marked benefits to the employer and to the employee. The proximity of the depositary (particularly under the pay roll deduction plan) has encouraged thrift Savings. Credit Unions were designed to operate In the field of small loans for which they are particularly well adapted. They have Shown to the best advantage and have suffered relatively small losses when they have confined their activities to Such investments. Personal loans have increased about during the year and the total of such loans is now in excess of These loans are made generally for a period of one year on a weekly repayment basis.
