Download or read book Runaway Emotions written by Jeff Schreve and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we pay attention to the alarms in our lives, they could save us. Worry. Anger. Loneliness. Negative emotions are uncomfortable by design. Like any good fire alarm, they alert us to a greater danger. But they won’t help us if we try to cover them up, hide them behind excuses, or assume they will always plague us. The only healthy way to manage negative emotions is to find their source and address the problem that set them off. As pastor Jeff Schreve says, “A specific and compelling message can be found in each of your negative, painful emotions. God Himself is trying to speak to you through those emotions—right now.” So what is God saying? How can we understand our emotions—even change them? Schreve shows how the truth of the Bible can make sense of our confusion. The power of the Holy Spirit can lead us to freedom, and Jesus Christ can give us true peace in the midst of any crisis. You don’t have to let your emotions run away with you, your family, or your future.

Book excerpt: A protocol of easy-to-use tools that can be applied when readers experience difficult-to-manage emotions. Emotional flooding—being overwhelmed by feelings—happens in response to stress, anxiety, and life’s challenges. In this client-orientated accompaniment to Affect Regulation Toolbox, Carolyn Daitch and Lissah Lorberbaum present skills and tools on how to dial down reactivity, practice mindfulness, and focus positively on the future. Written to conquer a broad range of emotional challenges in easily accessibly language, this book is intended to help clients improve the quality of their everyday lives. The workbook is split into two parts. Part I helps the reader understand when and why emotional flooding occurs. Using vivid stories and examples of others’ triggering situations helps the reader better understand their own triggers, and how to cope with them. Part II provides instructions for “daily stress inoculations,” a daily practice for relaxing and lowering baseline levels of emotional reactivity. The STOP Solution is introduced as a way of learning how to stop or lessen feeling emotionally overwhelmed. STOP stands for Scanning thoughts, feelings, and sensations, Taking a time-out, Overcoming Initial Flooding, and Putting tools into practice. Throughout the workbook, readers will find guided imagery exercises, opportunities for journaling and reflection, mindfulness practices, and a weblink to matching audio exercises. A complimentary companion app also enhances readers’ ability to take these exercises on the go. The result of this gentle and reliable program is resilience, well-being, and freedom from the emotional patterns that create suffering and damage relationships.
Download or read book The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems written by Tracy Hogg and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Baby Whisperer gives new parents everything they need to tackle the challenges of sleep, eating habits, tantrums, growth issues, and more! The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems is an in-depth look at the most challenging issues faced by parents of babies and young children today. The book goes beyond the basics introduced in her first two books, becoming a compendium of specific and targeted parenting strategies. Each chapter tackles a different topic, from teaching babies to sleep, feeding techniques, potty training, and much more. Hogg will also discuss her two new Baby Whispering concepts, which are being patient and conscious and learning to detect “prime times”—windows of opportunity for sleep training, introducing bottles (in breast-fed babies), sippy cups, toilet training, and much more. Once you learn how to translate banguage, the “baby-language” your infant uses to communicate needs, feelings, and opinions, you can see your child for who he or she really is—an understanding that will serve you well as your child blossoms into the toddler years. By helping you establish a daily routine and tailor your parenting strategies according to your child’s unique personality and stage of development, Tracy will teach you how to: • Employ the Twelve Principles of Problem Solving—simple troubleshooting techniques for everyday situations • Avoid, or remedy, accidental parenting—inadvertent adult behavior that often leads to such common parenting challenges as sleep problems, poor eating habits, separation anxiety, and tantrums • Identify windows of opportunity for teaching babies how to get to sleep on their own, introducing bottles to breast-fed babies, toilet training, and other growth issues For Tracy’s fans, this book will be a welcome addition to the Hogg library; for readers unfamiliar with her philosophy of care, it will open a new world of understanding and insight.

Download or read book Pure Emotion written by Susan H. Lawrence and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-05-25 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. (Romans 12:2) Emotions saturate Scripture. God is an emotional Godnot in the same way we talk about an emotional person. But God is certainly aware of the runaway emotions were referring to when we put a negative spin on emotions. We cant escape Gods presence. That means he sees and hears alongside us, including our (often messy) emotions. And if we let him, God will replace those untruthful messages weve learned about emotions along the journey of life with the truthful messages reflecting his character, will, and commands. God didnt mess up his design of you. He created you in his image. He has a plan for your life. He even knew what mistakes youd make throughout your life, and he still loves you and wants nothing more than to be in an ever-deepening relationship with you. He will pursue youwhether youre not following him and need to make that decision or youre following him marginally or youre passionate about him. He designed you for more, and he will pursue you, tapping you on the shoulder, whispering in your ear, and knocking on the door of your heart so that your daily lifeincluding your decisions, attitudes, and yes, emotionsis impacted in the purity of who he created you to be and the everyday messiness of living on Earth. If your emotions arent reflecting the character of God well, youre probably distorting something and need to get back on track. Thats what this journey is about: growing closer to God, getting to know him better, and committing to reflecting him more and more on a daily basis. Pure Emotion will dig into, reflect upon, and live out Gods Word. Chapters include: Week One: The Emotional Experience Week Two: Whats a Pure Emotion? Week Three: Fear Week Four: Jealousy Week Five: Anger Week Six: Anxiety and Peace Week Seven: Frustration Week Eight: Guilt and Shame Week Nine: Joy Week Ten: Living Emotionally Pure

Do you wish they would develop a love for reading that they could take into middle school and beyond? Some children love reading, requesting the same books over and over again and giggling with delight each time, while others simply despise sitting down for story time. What makes the difference in these two types of children? No child is born knowing how to read, so where does their interest come from? How do you encourage it? Like eating and drinking, reading is a daily necessity for every child. Download or read book Suffer Less in Life and Work written by Vincent Dodd and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It can seem we are more divided than ever in many aspects of life, and we too often still feel empty while pushing ourselves to keep up. Suffer Less in Life & Work explores many facets of our relationships with ourselves and others and provides tools to help ease this division and brings a clearer level of understanding and grace. When you consider what makes up our life: emotions, relationships, concerns, expectations, harsh realities, and even politics, how can there not be some suffering? Though these subjects are wide and deep, the author breaks each down and shares from his 34 years of front-line public service experiences and his personal life observations what is adding to our difficulties. He then follows with solution-based concepts and easy daily applicable tools to tame these daily life stressors. The Author writes: I am periodically asked, “With all of the tragedy and death you have seen, why do you laugh so often?” Sometimes the question is worded slightly differently, which slightly changes my answer, “With all the tragedy and death you have seen, how can you always be so happy?” My answer to the first question is because life is hard; and yet, life is also an amazing and unfortunately short but powerful journey. So yes, I do find the good, the humor, and the laughter as often as I can. My answer to the slightly differently worded question is the same, but it starts with, “I am not always happy….” I have seen inside of us, including myself, that there is a dark place between alive and dead that we sometimes fall into for a period. That place is emptiness, loneliness, paralyzing fear, anxiety, depression, anger, resentment, jealousy, even blame, and many addictions. It is my hope that we do not have to stay in that undead but not alive place for long. We arrive there when our feelings or perceptions, and sometimes the actual reality of our life, hit a difficult span of more bad than good. This causes the rough to cover more of our spirit than the light of goodness can illuminate. In this day and time, that unalive place is happening to us all too often. We do have valid reasons to feel overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, and to question human and social behaviors. But you are alive, and unless chronic or severe, these painful, aware, and sensitive human experiences have the potential to enrich our lives. It requires a cautious balance. As pressures mount, this can be difficult, but acknowledging how tough and scary it all can be at times is a great healthy start.
