Book Ruminations of a Retiree

Download or read book Ruminations of a Retiree written by Natarajan and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essay is a piece of non-fiction writing that discusses a specific topic in depth but with brevity. After the time of Montaigne of France and Francis Bacon of England, who were the pioneers and guides in essay writing, the subjects and form of essays have ramified (17 types). Now, essays are an integral part of the language curriculum in schools. In the segment of non-fiction, the essays are a genre in themselves. Present-day essays need to be short but loaded with information on the topic covered. In this volume in your hand, the author has attempted to cover topics of common interest to inquisitive readers at large, from every walk of the society. These essays are humorous, emotive, informative and instructive too. They are encapsulated chronicles of the past and present. The reader may randomly pick up any page to browse through; the narratives which are, in length, sized down to your span of attention, are sure to keep you more informed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read Bruce Frankel's posts on the Penguin Blog "This wise and inspiring book hands down an important message: Happiness is abundant at any age, and only you can limit your options." -The Boston Globe In today's world, the question "What should I do with my life?" only scratches the surface. Now, more and more people-from baby boomers retiring from their "first act" to people in their forties and fifties reconsidering their careers in a recovering economy-are finding themselves wondering how to find new stimulation and meaningful work over a lifetime. Bringing together a diverse array of stories, veteran journalist Bruce Frankel brings to life a mesmerizing series of profiles of men and women who discovered a new calling, success, or purpose later in life. Brimming with inspiration and humanity, What Should I Do with the Rest of My Life? celebrates activists, artists, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and others who found extraordinary ways to experience true fulfillment in the second half of life. On these pages, readers will meet a civil servant, laid off at age fifty-two, who enrolled in graduate school, earning a Ph.D. in psychology; a former consultant who began a microfinance program in Africa; a longtime contact-lens grinder who has chiseled twelve hundred stone heads on a property now known as the "Easter Island of the Hudson"; and many others who proved that age is a spark-not a barrier. Book From Residency to Retirement

Download or read book From Residency to Retirement written by Terry Mizrahi and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Residency to Retirement tells the stories of twenty American doctors over the last half century, which saw a period of continuous, turbulent, and transformative changes to the U.S. health care system. The cohort’s experiences are reflective of the generation of physicians who came of age as presidents Carter and Reagan began to focus on costs and benefits of health services. Mizrahi observed and interviewed these physicians in six timeframes ending in 2016. Beginning with medical school in the mid-1970s, these physicians reveal the myriad fluctuations and uncertainties in their professional practice, working conditions, collegial relationships, and patient interactions. In their own words, they provide a “view from the front lines” both in academic and community settings. They disclose the satisfactions and strains in coping with macro policies enacted by government and insurance companies over their career trajectory. They describe their residency in internal medicine in a large southern urban medical center as a “siege mentality” which lessened as they began their careers, in Getting Rid of Patients, the title of Mizrahi’s first book (1986). As these doctors moved on in their professional lives more of their experiences were discussed in terms of dissatisfaction with financial remuneration, emotional gratification, and intellectual fulfillment. Such moments of career frustration, however, were also interspersed with moments of satisfaction at different stages of their medical careers. Particularly revealing was whether they were optimistic about the future at each stage of their career and whether they would recommend a medical career to their children. Mizrahi's subjects also divulge their private feelings of disillusionment and fear of failure given the malpractice epidemic and lawsuits threatened or actually brought against so many doctors. Mizrahi’s work, covering almost fifty years, provides rarely viewed insights into the lives of physicians over a professional life span.

Book About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known

Download or read book About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known written by Peggy Rowe and published by Forefront Books. This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peggy Rowe is at it again—this time giving a hilarious inside look at growing up Rowe, both before and after Mike’s rise to fame. Since the day they said, “I do,” Peggy’s previous “doting” lifestyle met with her husband John’s minimalist ways and became the backdrop for years of adventure and a quirky sense of humor because of their differences. From thoughts of wearing headlamps in the house to save energy, to squeezing out the last drop of toothpaste with a workbench vise, Peggy learned to pick her battles and celebrate the hilarity in each situation. Once their boys were born, woodstove mishaps and garbage dumping tales were the seed for Mike’s obsession with doing dirty jobs and the comical presence he is known for today. As Mike rose to fame, Peggy was his biggest fan—who gave motherly advice and constructive criticism, of course. She baked cookies for Mike to take to Joan Rivers for a Christmas party hostess gift, and even wrote fan letters under faux names and mailed them from different cities to Mike’s producer. By the time Mike hits it big, Peggy and John retire to face more adventures, with a lightning strike in their condo, an elderly friend who ate marijuana leaves, and entering into celebrity status by making Viva paper towel and Lee jeans commercials, plus so much more. Peggy’s stories relive the details that intrigue and entertain old and new fans alike. So if you want a bigger, even funnier take on the Rowe family, About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known delivers.

Book The Four Pillars of Retirement Plans

Download or read book The Four Pillars of Retirement Plans written by David B. Loeper and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-05-27 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for The Four Pillars of Retirement Plans "This up-to-the-minute book shows how the Supreme Court's recent LaRue decision has reshaped the world of retirement plans. Rules governing fiduciaries of defined benefit plans may no longer protect fiduciaries of defined contribution plans and may actually harm them. The Four Pillars of Retirement Plans is indispensable for plan sponsors and other fiduciaries, and for all those advising them, including investment advisors and attorneys." —W. Scott Simon, JD, CFP, AIFA, author of The Prudent Investor Act: A Guide to Understanding and Morningstar "Fiduciary Focus" columnist "This book is a must-read for all plan sponsors, financial advisors, and ERISA attorneys if they have any hope of defending themselves from the mountain of litigation looming on the horizon for all participant-directed retirement plans and provides a road map to easily modify antiquated procedures born in the defined benefit era that contradict today's participant-directed retirement plans. Plaintiff's counsel is sure to have read this book; if you don't, you will be defenseless in these suits." —Edward Siedle, Esq., "The Pension Detective" and President of Benchmark Financial Services, Inc. "If you are a trustee, plan sponsor, or financial advisor serious about the retirement plan marketplace, you MUST read this book, or you will be ill-equipped to deal with the fiduciary meltdown non-readers will be facing." —John Lohr, ERISA attorney and author
