The political and commercial relations between the two countries were very slight; Rumania had no minister or consuls here. Her entry into the war on the twenty-seventh of August, 1916, followed in three months by the retreat of her armies before the enemy, the fall of the capital, and the occupation of more than three parts of the country by the enemy, caused Rumania to become known, but in a rather poor way. Her enemies, with the intention of causing a feeling of antipathy towards her, worked persistently to present the Rumanian policy as unstable and one of conquest, giving false information and leading to an unjust impression of the events taking place in Rumania.
