Book Serial Communication Protocols and Standards

Download or read book Serial Communication Protocols and Standards written by Dawoud Shenouda Dawoud and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data communication standards are comprised of two components: The “protocol” and “Signal/data/port specifications for the devices involved”. The protocol describes the format of the message and the meaning of each part of the message. To connect any device to the bus, an external device must be used as an interface which will put the message in a form which fulfills all the electrical specifications of the port. These specifications are called the “Standard”. The most famous such serial communication standard is the RS-232. In IT technology, Communication can be serial or parallel. Serial communication is used for transmitting data over long distances. It is much cheaper to run the single core cable needed for serial communication over a long distance than the multicore cables that would be needed for parallel communication. It is the same in wireless communication: Serial communication needs one channel while parallel needs multichannel. Serial Communication can also be classified in many other ways, for example synchronous and asynchronous; it can also be classified as simplex, duplex and half duplex. Because of the wide spread of serial communication from home automation to sensor and controller networks, there is a need for a very large number of serial communication standards and protocols. These have been developed over recent decades and range from the simple to the highly complicated. This large number of protocols was necessary to guarantee the optimum performance for the targeted applications. It is important for communication engineers to have enough knowledge to match the right protocol and standard with the right application. The main aim of this book is to provide the reader with that knowledge The book also provides the reader with detailed information about:- Serial Communication- Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART)- Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (USART - Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) - eSPI- Universal Serial Bus (USB)- Wi-Fi- WiMax- Insteon The details of each technology including specification, operation, security related matters, and many other topics are covered. The book allocates three chapters to the main communication standards. These chapters cover everything related to the most famous standard RS-232 and all its variants. Other protocols such as: I2C, CAN, ZigBee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, and others, are the subject of the authors separate book “Microcontroller and Smart Home Networks”.

Book Signal And Image Processing Sourcebook

Download or read book Signal And Image Processing Sourcebook written by Robert Libbey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-03-31 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technological background established in these early chapters - especially in the production and processing of television images - vividly illuminates the development of the sophisticated image processing employed in contemporary radar, space exploration, and medical radiological imaging. Continuing this integrated approach, the author links the fundamentals of analog telephony to the development of modern digital signal processing in telecommunications and networking. A detailed account of microprocessor technology further integrates the overall picture of the field of contemporary signal and image processing. Logically, the discussion is extended to the aspects of signal processing involved in artificial intelligence and neural networks.

Book Microcontroller Education

Download or read book Microcontroller Education written by Dimosthenis Bolanakis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microcontroller education has experienced tremendous change in recent years. This book attempts to keep pace with the most recent technology while holding an opposing attitude to the No Need to Reinvent the Wheel philosophy. The choice strategies are in agreement with the employment of today's flexible and low-cost Do-It-Yourself (DYI) microcontroller hardware, along with an embedded C programming approach able to be adapted by different hardware and software development platforms. Modern embedded C compilers employ built-in features for keeping programs short and manageable and, hence, speeding up the development process. However, those features eliminate the reusability of the source code among diverse systems. The recommended programming approach relies on the motto Code More to Learn Even More, and directs the reader toward a low-level accessibility of the microcontroller device. The examples addressed herein are designed to meet the demands of Electrical & Electronic Engineering discipline, where the microcontroller learning processes definitely bear the major responsibility. The programming strategies are in line with the two virtues of C programming language, that is, the adaptability of the source code and the low-level accessibility of the hardware system. Some accompanying material of the book can be found at http://bit.ly/mcu-files.
