Book Essays on Politics and Governance in Bangladesh India Pakistan and Thailand

Download or read book Essays on Politics and Governance in Bangladesh India Pakistan and Thailand written by Jayanta Kumar Ray and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a result of wide ranging academic collaboration between two scholars of two neighbouring countries -- Bangladesh and India. Significantly, their ideas and interests have coveraged on important topics such as nationalism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, internal colonialism, civil-military relations and challenges of good governance. The authors have largely dealt with four countries - Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Thailand. Various issues like relations between the people, politicians and administrators have occupied a predominant place in this book. Dysfunctionalities of public administration have repeatedly come to the forefront. In this perspective, the solitary essay on Thailand gains great importance because it reveals similarities not only between south and south-east Asian countries and the United States. It is also to the credit of these two authors that, unlike most academics, they have not merely underlined the deficiencies in public administration, but also have been bold enough to suggest possible solutions. It is further to their credit that these papers - published elsewhere from 1973 to 2003 - have stood the test of time, simultaneously preserving the flavour of by gone decades.

Book Shadow and Act

Download or read book Shadow and Act written by Ralph Ellison and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the same intellectual incisiveness and supple, stylish prose he brought to his classic novel Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison examines his antecedents and in so doing illuminates the literature, music, and culture of both black and white America. His range is virtuosic, encompassing Mark Twain and Richard Wright, Mahalia Jackson and Charlie Parker, The Birth of a Nation and the Dante-esque landscape of Harlem−"the scene and symbol of the Negro's perpetual alienation in the land of his birth." Throughout, he gives us what amounts to an episodic autobiography that traces his formation as a writer as well as the genesis of Invisible Man. On every page, Ellison reveals his idiosyncratic and often contrarian brilliance, his insistence on refuting both black and white stereotypes of what an African American writer should say or be. The result is a book that continues to instruct, delight, and occasionally outrage readers thirty years after it was first published.

Book The Structuring of Organizations

Download or read book The Structuring of Organizations written by Henry Mintzberg and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthesizes the empirical literature on organizationalstructuring to answer the question of how organizations structure themselves --how they resolve needed coordination and division of labor. Organizationalstructuring is defined as the sum total of the ways in which an organizationdivides and coordinates its labor into distinct tasks. Further analysis of theresearch literature is neededin order to builda conceptualframework that will fill in the significant gap left by not connecting adescription of structure to its context: how an organization actuallyfunctions. The results of the synthesis are five basic configurations (the SimpleStructure, the Machine Bureaucracy, the Professional Bureaucracy, theDivisionalized Form, and the Adhocracy) that serve as the fundamental elementsof structure in an organization. Five basic parts of the contemporaryorganization (the operating core, the strategic apex, the middle line, thetechnostructure, and the support staff), and five theories of how it functions(i.e., as a system characterized by formal authority, regulated flows, informalcommunication, work constellations, and ad hoc decision processes) aretheorized. Organizations function in complex and varying ways, due to differing flows -including flows of authority, work material, information, and decisionprocesses. These flows depend on the age, size, and environment of theorganization; additionally, technology plays a key role because of itsimportance in structuring the operating core. Finally, design parameters aredescribed - based on the above five basic parts and five theories - that areused as a means of coordination and division of labor in designingorganizational structures, in order to establish stable patterns of behavior.(CJC).
