Book The Royal Dukes

Download or read book The Royal Dukes written by William A. Scott and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Royal Dukes is the third and final book in the series. This divergent reflection examines the exploits of Boo the teenager as he reaches for manhood in a rapidly changing social and political environment. But unbeknownst to Boo and his doo-wop buddies in their singing group, the Royal Dukes, the political “doo-whoppers” were already plotting Ellenwood’s extinction. The Old Eastwick residential displacement plot, nay, ploy, deliberately eviscerated and enervated Ellenwood. The power and money of the freethinking doo-whoppers mulishly and maliciously exterminated my hometown. Like Corrine Sykes, they executed Ellenwood, even after a deathbed confession and acknowledgment by the City Council. Initially a majority of the Council opposed the project, but money, power, and politics won the day.

Book The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III Vol 1 of 2

Download or read book The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III Vol 1 of 2 written by Percy Fitzgerald and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George III, Vol. 1 of 2: A View of Court Life and Manners for Seventy Years, 1760-1830 Besides gathering together all the published materials laid up from innumerable volumes, many scarce or often unknown, into a regular form, I have here collected a large amount of unpublished letters, diaries, and other interesting ms. Matter. These are to be read in our National Museum, instead of, as might be expected, being kept in the archives of the Royal Family. Of these I have made due use, though, it is hoped, exercising also due discretion. To make the picture of Court life as complete, I have devoted a portion of the first volume to an account of the Royal Head of the family as he appeared in his domestic circle, and in the enjoyment of his simple and moderate recreations. This view I have been careful to open, not from the more familiar memoirs, like Mr. J case's - though Miss Burney has been drawn upon to some extent - but from the Harcourt Papers and the columns of the Court Circulars of the day. With these materials I think I may take credit for offering a picture of Court life that is not to be found elsewhere, and which will, on the whole, raise the Royal Family in public estimation. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1882 edition. Excerpt: ... chapter iii. princess elizabeth. This princess, born in 1770, was one of the graver members of the royal family. Like the rest, she was affectionate to her friends and devoted to her parents, with whom she remained till her youth and prime had fled. This tardiness in providing alliances for the ladies of the family offers a curious contrast to the haste exhibited in our own times. Nor was she without a certain vivacity of description and enthusiasm, as a pleasant account of Strawberry Hill, written to her friend Lord Harcourt, shows: ..". I can never thank you enough for having persuaded Mama to go to Strawberry Hill; it was a morning passed after my own heart.... Portraits, Miniatures, Japans, enamels, china, & a thousand other beautiful things start up to claim one's attention; but of all the things I ever saw, what struck me the most, was that which I have heard you rave about, the famous Bell; which is really, in my humble opinion, the most wonderful piece of workmanship I ever saw. If my time would allow me, I could run on in raptures about everything; but I will not leave the subject without a few words concerning the owner of this curious and interesting mansion, whose pleasing manners thoroughly gained the whole company. We hope that he will not have suffered from his great civility to us; it pained me to think that we were the cause of his exerting himself as he did; but if he could know how much his attentions were felt, I am sure he would be pleased. "I wish I could be housekeeper there for a Fortnight. In case of your hearing that Lord O. is in want of one, send to such a No., in such a place, near such a street, by such a Castle, in such a Lodge, you will find a discreet, steady young woman, who bears a tolerable good...

Book A Royal Life

Download or read book A Royal Life written by HRH The Duke of Kent and published by Hodder & Stoughton. This book was released on 2022-05-12 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A pleasure to read... a timely reminder of the need for service' -- The Daily Telegraph 'The voices and reminiscence of family and friends merge seamlessly, giving the impression of gathering round the fire on a winter evening' -- The Oldie 'A remarkable memoir penned by the Duke of Kent, whose entire life has been dedicated to Queen and country... an insider's account of what it is like to be a working royal.' -- Daily Mail HRH The Duke of Kent has been at the heart of the British Royal Family throughout his life. As a working member of the Royal Family, he supported his cousin The Queen, representing her at home and abroad, until her death in 2022. His royal duties began when, in 1952, at the age of sixteen, he walked in the procession behind King George VI's coffin, later paying homage to The Queen at her Coronation in 1953. Since then he has witnessed and participated in key Royal occasions. A Royal Life is a unique account based on a series of conversations between the Duke and acclaimed Royal historian Hugo Vickers. It covers the Duke's upbringing, his army life, his royal tours and events and associations with organisations. Here too are recollections of family members including his mother, Princess Marina, his grandmother, Queen Mary, his cousin, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and his uncle, King George VI. Other members of the Royal Family contribute their memories, including his wife, the Duchess of Kent, the Duke's siblings, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael of Kent, his son, the Earl of St Andrews, his daughter, Lady Helen Taylor as well as his cousins, Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia, Archduchess Helen of Austria and her brother, Hans Veit Toerring. Containing never before seen photographs from the Duke's private collection and a new chapter on the Platinum Jubilee and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, A Royal Life is an unprecedented and remarkable insight into Royal history.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Royal Dukes and Princesses of the Family of George, Vol. 2: III, a View of Court Life and Manners for Seventy Years Passing now from her childhood, we next see Princess Charlotte as an attractive young girl, wayward, easily led by kindness, and driven into obstinacy and rebellion by harsh treatment. It was thus she presented herself to an observer at her mother's house. This introduces us to a new epoch of her short life, when she was driven to act for herself and in hostility to her father while clinging as long as she could, or was allowed to do so, to her mother's cause.
