Book The Armed Forces Instrument of Peace Strength Development and Prosperity

Download or read book The Armed Forces Instrument of Peace Strength Development and Prosperity written by Joseph Babatunde Fagoyinbo and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across the ages, technological developments have been accelerated by the military. This results from the fact that able-bodied vibrant youths are generally involved and are also exposed to high-tech training prevailing at their times for assignments (defence and security) that are essential but not desired. They form the Armed Forces for the nations. Such brilliant military officers like Caesar and Napoleon made their marks; and, in contemporary times, the Armed Forces of United States, France, Britain, Australia, etc are making remarkable contributions to technological developments. Such infrastructure as the Internet, the GPS and the cell phones are products that have significant military contributions. This book scans across the major regions of the world, highlights the efforts of representative countries in the regions and observes that nations that have harnessed the efforts of their Armed Forces have progressively developed. It is also observed that developments in America and Europe, though not entirely dependent on their Armed Forces, have been greatly affected by their efforts. In Asia, such countries as the People's Republic of China, Brazil, India, Pakistan and Singapore utilise the human and material resources within the Armed Forces for national growth and cohesion. Development effort is least in the African Region, except South Africa and Egypt; notwithstanding the high potentials as exhibited by Nigeria's Armed Forces. Although attempts to industrialise through the Armed Forces may be able to create economic development for developing nations, such factors as historical background, economic resources, political climate, government policies and infrastructure are equally important. Economic development programme of an aspiring country should: i. promote education and access to knowledge ii. aspire to economic self-sufficiency in economic power iii. allow and promote private sector and foreign participation in defence production, research and development iv. commit itself to the establishment and support of defence industries v. indigenise defence programmes, establish a balance between military and economic development and vi. mobilise the nation's economy through technology partnership with the private sector and foreign investors.

Book Identification of Promising Naval Aviation Science and Technology Opportunities

Download or read book Identification of Promising Naval Aviation Science and Technology Opportunities written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-04-09 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense is developing the means to transform the nation's armed forces to meet future military challenges. For the Navy and Marine Corps, this vision is encompassed in Naval Power 21. Many new war-fighting concepts will be needed to implement this vision, and the ONR has requested the NRC to identify new science and technology opportunities for new naval aviation capabilities to support those concepts. This report presents an assessment of what they imply for naval aviation, an analysis of some capabilities that, if developed, would make a significant contribution to realizing those concepts, and an identification of key technologies in which ONR could invest to achieve those capabilities. In particular, the report focuses on seven key capabilities: multispectral defense, unmanned air operations, hypersonic weapons delivery, fast-kill weapons, heavy-lift air transport, intelligent combat information management, and omniscient intelligence.

Book Defending Australia in the Asia Pacific Century

Download or read book Defending Australia in the Asia Pacific Century written by Australian Government - Department of Defence - Defence Publishing Service and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new Defence White Paper explains how the Government plans to strengthen the foundations of Australia's defence. It sets out the Government's plans for Defence for the next few years, and how it will achieve those plans. Most importantly, it provides an indication of the level of resources that the Government is planning to invest in Defence over coming years and what the Government, on behalf of the Australian people, expects in return from Defence. Ultimately, armed forces exist to provide Governments with the option to use force. Maintaining a credible defence capability is a crucial contributor to our security, as it can serve to deter potential adversaries from using force against us or our allies, partners and neighbours.

Book Asia Pacific Regional Security Assessment 2023

Download or read book Asia Pacific Regional Security Assessment 2023 written by The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-02 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asia-Pacific Regional Security Assessment examines key regional security issues relevant to the policy-focused discussions of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia’s premier defence summit convened by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. It is published and launched at the Dialogue and the issues analysed within its covers are central to discussions at the event. Since February 2022, the war in Ukraine has provided a bleak backdrop for discussions about international security. While the war has affected many aspects of security and defence in the Asia-Pacific, the region also has its own dynamics, and important security-related developments have occurred there since the invasion. Among these, China’s ever-growing power and increasingly assertive posture remain the leading long-term challenges for the region. This tenth edition of the Asia-Pacific Regional Security Assessment contains an introduction and six chapters, authored by IISS experts, which investigate important dimensions of the regional security environment, supported by maps, graphs, charts and tables. Topics include: the war in Ukraine and the Asia-Pacific balance of power; strained US- China relations and the growing threat to Taiwan; Asia-Pacific naval and maritime capabilities; China’s Belt and Road Initiative; Japanese security and defence policy; and the conflict in Myanmar and the international response. Authors include leading regional analysts and academics at the forefront of research and analysis: James Crabtree, Euan Graham, Nigel Inkster, Nick Childs, Meia Nouwens, Robert Ward, Yuka Koshino, Aaron Connelly and Shona Loong

Book Seaforth World Naval Review

Download or read book Seaforth World Naval Review written by Conrad Waters and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2023-12-30 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than a decade this annual volume has provided an authoritative summary of all the developments in the world's navies and their ships in the previous twelve months. It combines regional surveys with major articles on important new warships, and looks at wider issues of significance to navies such as aviation and weaponry. The contributors come from around the globe and as well as providing a balanced picture of naval developments, they interpret their significance and explain their context. As well as its regular regional reviews, the 2024 volume focusses on three fleets: the Brazilian Navy, the Hellenic Navy and the Royal Navy. There are in-depth articles on the French Auguste Benebig class of overseas patrol vessels, the Indian P15A & P15B Kolkata/Visakhapatnam class destroyers, and the Spanish S-80 Class Isaac Peral class submarines. The third regular section of the volume is devoted to reviews of important technological developments around the world. David Hobbs looks at aspects of naval aviation and focusses on US unmanned systems. Norman Friedman outlines developments in naval propulsion systems, while Richard Scott analyzes the Kongsberg/Raytheon naval strike missile. Now firmly established as the only annual naval overview of its type in the world, The Seaforth World Naval Review is essential reading for professional and enthusiast alike. It takes the reader to the heart of contemporary maritime affairs. '…this is a marvelous asset for those wishing to keep up to date with naval matters. Very highly recommended.' - Warship World
