Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A BIZARRE MURDER PLUNGES THE HAPLESS AUSTRALIANS INTO A QUEER WORLD OF BRITISH ARISTOCRACY, INTERNATIONAL POLITICS, SCANDAL, SPIES and FASCIST BLACKSHIRTS. A WORLD WHERE GENTLEMEN ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT THEY ARE DRESSED UP TO BE. The Fifth Book of the Acclaimed Rowland Sinclair Mysteries Handsome, the epitome of stoicism and dignity, wry and witty despite his impeccable manners, protagonist Rowland Sinclair is an Oxford educated gentleman artist in his late 20s who enjoys being the black sheep of his conservative and wealthy family. Rowland has narrowly escaped Germany, damaged – physically and emotionally. Having spent time in Germany as a young man in the 1930s, he is horrified by the changes that have come about under the Nazi government. The country which he knew as the centre of modern art and culture is now, under Hitler, oppressed and brutalised. For the first time, he is moved to take a stance, to try and sway the political thought of the time. He doesn't really know what he is doing, or what should be done, but he is consumed with a notion that something should be done. Aristocrats with secrets. Scandalous rogues clad in tailcoats and sensational gowns. Danger is formally dressed. And Edna, siren, emancipated sculptress, the object of Rowland's deepest, unspoken desires, is by his side and yet out of his reach.

Book Finding Rowland s Hut

Download or read book Finding Rowland s Hut written by Ann Chandler and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-09-14 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ROWLAND'S HUT is a metaphor for belonging, acceptance, togetherness, safety, rescue, security, protection, significance, sanctuary & love. -A refuge for the weak, a shelter for the needy in distress- --To give sanctuary is to bring endangered people into a place of shelter & protection-- --To be sanctified is to be brought under the protection of God-- --Deserts of the heart do exist. Perhaps there are fewer of them than we think. Isn't the Holy Spirit The Comforter in each one?-- (Brother Roger) Through the act of writing, I enter into an aspect of my Rowland's Hut by being productive, bringing all fragmented thoughts together to form a wholeness in purpose and expression. Within its walls, I am safe to examine this expression, allowing it to help heal my inner world, and to project my findings to the world outside. I hope that they will resonate in others, acting as an encouragement and a validation as to who we are before Man, but more importantly, before the God who loves us.

Book excerpt: In Rowland: A Heart of Sunshine, the sequel to Surviving the Shadows, author Caroline Whitehead meets her long-lost elder brother, Rowland Marshall, for the first time in 1991 when he is 72 years old. Rowland had heard about Caroline's existence when he was thirteen, but had been denied any details. He'd searched for her in vain for almost sixty years. Caroline tells Rowland of being raised as an orphan by nuns, how she was forced into war work in 1942, and of her struggle to exist on low wages and wartime rations. Her thwarted political ambitions, emigration to Canada, raising a family, and always searching for her roots... Caroline reveals to her brother the existence of three other siblings raised as orphans - William, Kathleen and Elizabeth - about whom he was totally unaware. Rowland's boyhood vision of living with his sister Caroline becomes a reality when the two of them decide to share a home together in Canada. This realized dream continued for the next sixteen years. Characters, events and settings that portray an era and culture that few today could imagine... Identical telepathic senses that allowed two siblings who had been complete strangers to understand each other in their later years, sharing laughter, fun and sorrow... "My brother had a talent for putting words into verse, and he never failed to surprise me with his intelligence on various matters, including his worldly travels. He could mimic different dialogues with such gusto, and have me rolling around in fits of laughter." ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Caroline Whitehead (née Marshall) was born in London, England, and raised in an orphanage in Kent. Knowing the importance of family bonds she pushed forward for forty years to discover her brothers' and sisters' identities, overcoming many obstacles so the story could finally be told. She lives in Sidney, B.C.
