Book excerpt: Returning home, exhausted and empty-handed from a day trip to the Sacramento SPCA, she was leafing through her local paper, when her eye lit upon this ad: "ADULT MALE ROTTWEILER FREE TO A GOOD HOME." The last year had been a crummy one for her. She had to put down her last Rottweiler. She had undergone chemotherapy for breast cancer and had been missing the companionship of a Rottie. For the last twenty-five years, there had always been one in her life. A year had gone by since she had put the last one down, and at the same time finished her chemo treatments. This was not the kind of ad she saw everyday and she felt that this was a special message to her. "I will call first thing in the morning," she thought. This is the beginning of Quinn's story, a truly remarkable dog, who changed her life as much as she changed his. He became part of a new family and met many, many new people who became part of his life. He faced an enormous challenge through which he both taught and learned the meaning of love and trust. This story will appeal to anyone who has ever loved a dog.

Download or read book Rottweilers Dog Books for Kids written by K. Bennett and published by Mendon Cottage Books. This book was released on 2015-09-06 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rottweilers - Dog Books for Kids Table of Contents Introduction Chapter 1 - Early History Chapter 2 - Fascinating Features & Care Chapter 3 - Amazing Rottweiler facts Conclusion - A Family's best friend Author Bio Introduction “No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.” ― Louis Sabin Rottweilers are powerful dogs from a long history of domestic dogs, also known as butchers dogs. Strong, courageous and intelligent, Rottweilers are versatile and faithful dogs. They have outstanding characteristics and are devoted to their family. Butchers dogs were used to herd livestock in Germany. Do you know why the name “butcher” was used? The carts were full of “butchered” meat and other products to sell. So, when the dogs pulled the carts they were called “butchers” dogs. Today, Rottweilers are found not only at home, but also in law enforcement. They form a part of search and rescue teams and help the blind as guide dogs. This ability extends to work as police dogs and guard dogs. The AKC standard defines Rottweilers as “calm and confident.” They also note a “self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships.” This statement helps us to understand the level of socialization required for a Rottweiler. It also helps us to learn how much training is needed for a friendlier, more outgoing pet. Rottweilers are excellent watchdogs and guardians. Their alert and protective nature can serve to protect both you and your family from strangers. However, like other dog breeds, this aspect of their personality may not appeal to you, if you are looking for a more guest friendly dog. This breed has a high energy level and strong territorial instincts, which are other aspects to consider. A slow lifestyle is not ideal, as they have a tendency to get a bit overweight. For this reason, they require daily exercise and space to expend that energy. Mental exercise is another very important factor to take into account. Despite their strong personality and characteristics, Rottweilers are highly recommended as guardians and protectors. With proper training and firm attention, Rottweilers make an excellent addition to the list of … man’s best friend!

Download or read book Knowledge and Conditionals written by Robert Stalnaker and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert C. Stalnaker presents a set of essays on the structure of inquiry. In the first part he focuses on the concepts of knowledge, belief, and partial belief, and on the rules and procedures we use - or ought to use - to determine what to believe, and what to claim that we know. In the second part he examines conditional statements and conditional beliefs, their role in epistemology, and their relations to causal and explanatory concepts, such as dispositions, objective chance, relations of dependence, and independence. A central concern of the book is the interaction of different cognitive perspectives - the ways in which the attitudes of rational agents are or should be influenced by critical reflection on their present cognitive situation, on their own cognitive situations at other times, and on the cognitive situations of others with whom they interact. The general picture that is developed is naturalistic, following Hume in rejecting a substantive role for pure reason in the defense of inductive rules, and in giving causal concepts a central role in the description and explanation of our cognitive practices. However, Stalnaker rejects the side of Hume that aims to reduce concepts involving natural necessity to more basic descriptive concepts. Instead, he argues that the development of inductive rules and practices takes place in interaction with the development of concepts for giving a theoretical description of the world.

Download or read book The Second Chance Dog written by Jon Katz and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz comes a wise, uplifting, and poignant memoir of finding love against all odds, and the power of second chances for both people and dogs. “I had no idea that Frieda would enter my life and alter it in the most profound way, but that’s one of the beautiful things about animals. They change you, and you almost never see it coming.” In 2007, a few years after purchasing Bedlam Farm in upstate New York, Jon Katz met Maria Wulf, a quiet, sensitive artist hoping to rekindle her creative spark. Jon, like her, was introspective yet restless, a writer struggling to find his purpose. He felt a connection with her immediately, but a formidable obstacle stood in the way: Maria’s dog, Frieda. A rottweiler-shepherd mix who had been abandoned by her previous owner in the Adirondacks, where she lived in the wild for several years, Frieda was ferociously protective and barely tamed. She roared and charged at almost anyone who came near. But to Maria, Frieda was sweet and loyal, her beloved guard dog and devoted friend. And so Jon quickly realized that to win over Maria, he’d have to gain Frieda’s affection as well. While he and Maria grew closer, Jon was having a tougher time charming Frieda to his side. Even after many days spent on Bedlam Farm, Frieda still lunged at the other animals, ran off into the woods, and would not let Jon come near her, even to hook on her leash. Yet armed with a singular determination, unlimited patience, and five hundred dollars’ worth of beef jerky, Jon refused to give up on Frieda—or on his chance with Maria. Written with stunning emotional clarity and full of warm yet practical wisdom, The Second-Chance Dog is a testament to how animals can make us better people, and how it’s never too late to find love. Praise for The Second-Chance Dog “No one speaks the language of a dog like best-selling author Jon Katz. Download or read book The Rottweiler written by Ruth Rendell and published by Seal Books. This book was released on 2010-04-23 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first victim was discovered with a bite on her neck. The police traced the DNA to the girl’s boyfriend, but the tabloids had already dubbed the murderer “The Rottweiler,” and the name stuck. The latest body was found near Inez Ferry’s shop in Marylebone. Someone spotted a figure fleeing into the shadows, but couldn’t say even if it was a man or woman. The only other clues are the murderer’s penchant for strangling his prey, and then removing a small token — a necklace, a lighter. To make ends meet, widowed Inez Ferry takes in tenants above her antique store. The unpredictable and obsessive acts of the serial murderer begin to disturb the lives of the heterogeneous little community of lodgers, especially when suspicion grows that one of them might be “The Rottweiler.”
