This book was released on 2009-06-18 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Cup of Cappuccino for the Entrepreneur’s Spirit – find your passion and live the dream features entrepreneurs’ true short stories written to inspire, energize and teach the reader. The stories include adversities, challenges, triumphs, and successes experienced by the entrepreneur to help readers discover passion and basic principles they can use to live the entrepreneurial dream. Touching both the head and the heart, the stories feature entrepreneurs from ages 21 to 94 representing a diverse range of business types, sizes, and income levels. Stories are presented in a “can do” optimistic format, opened with relevant inspirational quotes, and closed with key success factors, recommended books, entrepreneurs’ websites, and editor’s notes. Featured entrepreneurs include Scott Klososky from Oklahoma, who sold his last company for $115M. Scott believes that building businesses is a noble act and that entrepreneurship has made the U.S. economy the powerhouse that it is. Evelyn Echols, an entrepreneur from Chicago recently celebrated her 94th birthday and is still involved in entrepreneurial ventures. Ms. Echols believes that this era is the perfect time for young people to consider entrepreneurship. Evelyn owned and operated Echols International Travel School for 35 years and just published her second book with Walter Cronkite writing the foreword. Particularly relevant in today’s economy, Katherine Sansone of SANSONE+ PR and Marketing firm in Oakland, California started a business because she was tired of being laid off and wanted to control her own destiny. She now represents notable clients worldwide and discusses changes she had to make in her business with personnel including using contract management rather than having employees. Tamara Dujmovic and Robert Sterpin, two successful entrepreneurs from Izola, Slovenia, Europe (the former Yugoslavia), discuss their business strategies and illustrate the possibilities of entrepreneurship in a society where owning a business was not an option prior to 1991. In the current economic climate, entrepreneurs must work harder than ever before to differentiate their businesses from the competition. Key success factors such as passion, customer service, relationships, work ethic, integrity, determination and perseverance are reiterated throughout the book. A Cup of Cappuccino for the Entrepreneurs’ Spirit – find your passion and live the dream will include a series of books with the first book featuring 58 entrepreneurs from five countries and 18 states within the U.S. Future books will be published as editions of A Cup of Cappuccino for the Entrepreneur’s Spirit. Over 50 potential editions have been identified. CDs with selected stories in the entrepreneur's voice will follow. A Cup of Cappuccino for the Entrepreneur’s Spirit will bring inspiration, motivation, and knowledge to entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs worldwide. A portion of the proceeds from the book will be put in a fund to help the next generation of entrepreneurs with start-up funds. Book excerpt: NoLab is a novel with a comic bent; it’s a crime story, a buddy “flick,” an art world commentary, a love story. NoLab might be what happens when Lethal Weapon is crossed with My Dinner with Andre. Artists Ray Lawson and Victor Florian search for NoLab, a collaborative of artist provocateurs that has gone missing. Their search becomes a romp through the art and ideas of a progressive, conceptually oriented subculture of the art world. They investigate Carter Wilkinson, creator of The Institute (a shadowy, futuristic cultural institution with an unusual collection). Though seemingly inept as detectives, Ray and Victor eventually succeed in finding the members of NoLab. Murder intervenes. Ray, Victor, and NoLab are harassed and threatened by various individuals attempting to dissuade NoLab from implementing its ill-advised plan. From the presumed safety of home, Ray and his newly acquired family watch the gory ramifications of NoLab’s self-destructive act unfold in the media.

Book Post Westerns

  • Author : Neil Campbell
  • Publisher : U of Nebraska Press

  • ISBN : 1496209621
  • Pages : 455 pages

Download or read book Post Westerns written by Neil Campbell and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2020-04-01 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the post-World War II period, the Western, like America's other great film genres, appeared to collapse as a result of revisionism and the emergence of new forms. Perhaps, however, as theorists like Gilles Deleuze suggest, it remains, simply "maintaining its empty frame." Yet this frame is far from empty, as Post-Westerns shows us: rather than collapse, the Western instead found a new form through which to scrutinize and question the very assumptions on which the genre was based. Employing the ideas of critics such as Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, and Jacques Rancière, Neil Campbell examines the haunted inheritance of the Western in contemporary U.S. culture. His book reveals how close examination of certain postwar films--including Bad Day at Black Rock, The Misfits, Lone Star, Easy Rider, Gas Food Lodging, Down in the Valley, and No Country for Old Men--reconfigures our notions of region and nation, the Western, and indeed the West itself. Campbell suggests that post-Westerns are in fact "ghost-Westerns," haunted by the earlier form's devices and styles in ways that at once acknowledge and call into question the West, both as such and in its persistent ideological framing of the national identity and values.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and space aliens like the Transformers share a surprising connection along with James Bond, Indiana Jones, and Rocky Balboa. These beloved icons played active roles in movie and television projects set in the state of Nevada. Long time state film commissioner and movie reviewer Holabird explores the blending of icons and Nevada, along with her personal experiences of watching movies, talking with famous people, and showing off a diverse range of stunning and iconic locations like Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Area 51. Holabird shows how Nevada’s flash, flair, and fostering of the forbidden provided magic for singers, sexpots, and strange creatures from other worlds. She also gives readers an insider’s look into moviemaking in Nevada by drawing on her extensive experience as a film commissioner. This is a unique take on film history and culture, and Holabird explores eighteen film genres populated by one-of-a-kind characters with ties to Nevada. Along with being a film history of the state of Nevada written by a consummate insider, the book is a fun mixture of research, personal experiences, and analysis about how Nevada became the location of choice for a broad spectrum of well-known films and characters.

Book The Quick the Dead and the Revived

Download or read book The Quick the Dead and the Revived written by Joseph Maddrey and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For well more than a century, Western films have embodied the United States' most fundamental doctrine--expansionism--and depicted, in a uniquely American way, the archetypal battle between good and evil. Westerns also depict a country defined and re-defined by complex crises. World War II transformed the genre as well as the nation's identity. Since then, Hollywood filmmakers have been fighting America's ideological wars onscreen by translating modern-day politics into the timeless mythology of the Old West. This book surveys the most iconic and influential Westerns, examines Hollywood stars and their political stripes and reveals the familiar Western tropes--which became elements in popular action, science fiction and horror films. This then sets the stage for the Western revival of the 1990s and a period of reinvention in the 21st century. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.
