Book Innovative Process for Free vulcnized Rubber Latex Production

Download or read book Innovative Process for Free vulcnized Rubber Latex Production written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field natural rubber latex was concentrated by creaming method via addition of creaming agents, namely carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC). The effects of creaming agent concentration, creaming time and temperature on dry rubber content (DRC) were studied to determine the optimum condition for latex creaming process. Creamed latex was cured by vulcanization in a stirred reactor with sulfur elements and tetramethylthiuram disulfide as curing agent. Free-vulcanized latex obtained from the reaction with varying temperature, cure time and curing agent concentration were made into films and dried at room temperature. Tensile properties, elongation at break, hardness of the film products were measured. Crosslink density, chloroform number and swelling index of latex were also investigated. It was found that optimum condition for latex concentrate was using HPMC as creaming agent at 0.6% concentration, at room temperature, for 24 hours. For vulcanization of creamed latex, the maximum tensile strength was obtained from TMTD 2 phr at vulcanization temperature of 50 °C and cured time of 3 hours. At lower vulcanization temperatures, longer cured time was required. Chloroform number and swelling index showed that the latex compounds were not completely vulcanized.

Book Science and Technology of Rubber

Download or read book Science and Technology of Rubber written by James E. Mark and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science and Technology of Rubber, Third Edition provides a broad survey of elastomers with special emphasis on materials with a rubber-like elasticity. As in the 2nd edition, the emphasis remains on a unified treatment of the material; exploring topics from the chemical aspects such as elastomer synthesis and curing, through recent theoretical developments and characterization of equilibrium and dynamic properties, to the final applications of rubber, including tire engineering and manufacturing. Many advances have been made in polymer and elastomers research over the past ten years since the 2nd edition was published. Updated material stresses the continuous relationship between the ongoing research in synthesis, physics, structure and mechanics of rubber technology and industrial applications. Special attention is paid to recent advances in rubber-like elasticity theory and new processing techniques for elastomers. This new edition is comprised of 20% new material, including a new chapter on environmental issues and tire recycling.

Book Natural Rubber Latex Pre vulcanisation Studies

Download or read book Natural Rubber Latex Pre vulcanisation Studies written by E. H. Low and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of test sample preparation has been found to have a very significant effect on the result obtained from measurement of physical properties. Results indicate that this is due largely to the equilibrium moisture content of the films which in turn is dependent on the levels of hydrophilic material present vis natural non-rubber constiunts and added soaps/stabilisers. Comparative studies were also made on physical properties as obtained from cast and coagulant dipped films. The effects of processing e.g. clarification and recentrifugation on both the latex colloidal properties and final physical properties of the films were studied. Storage changes in the properties of the pre-vulcanised latices were also monitored over a period of six months. [Author's abstract].
