Book Catch Me A Captive Romance Collection

Download or read book Catch Me A Captive Romance Collection written by Julia Sykes and published by Julia Sykes. This book was released on 2021-12-19 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three first-in-series captive romance books by USA Today bestselling author Julia Sykes, available in one collection for a limited time! Sweet Captivity I don't like to be touched. I'm the hacker-geek-goddess of the FBI. When I'm hiding behind my screen, I'm a safe distance from everyone; isolated, powerful. No man has ever touched me, but when I'm captured by Colombian drug lord Andrés Moreno, I no longer have the right to refuse. He's scarred and scary, and his cruel brother Cristian has tasked him with breaking me. The longer I remain trapped with him, the more I come to suspect that I'm not the only captive in his brother's home. Andrés' scars go deeper than the wicked furrows carved into his flesh, his pain reflected in the dark demands he imposes upon me. His obsession is twisted and wrong, but maybe I'm twisted, too. Do I want to be rescued from him? Or is he the one who truly needs saving? Mafia Captive Two darkly domineering alpha males. One sets my body on fire. The other makes me tremble. And they swear they won't let me go. My ordinary life as a college sophomore becomes extraordinary when Joseph storms into my world and sweeps me off my feet. Our intense connection seems too impossible to be real, like a wonderful dream. Until it becomes a nightmare. Drugged. Kidnapped. When I wake up, I find myself trapped in the arms of the man who was supposed to be my fierce protector. My sweet first love is a criminal, the son of a powerful mafia boss. And his best friend Marco--the terrifying, heavily-muscled man who abducted me--is a brutal enforcer. They say they can't let me go, or their enemies might hurt me. Despite everything, my heart still belongs to Joseph, and I can't help surrendering to the fiery chemistry between us. Marco's rigid rules infuriate me, but his steady onyx stare and stern orders make something darker than anger burn low in my belly. They swear they've kidnapped me for my own protection, but will staying close to my alluring criminal captors put me in more danger than ever? Impossible My life was irrevocably changed that night; the night I was taken. I saved a man's life, but at what cost to myself? Can I convince him to save me in return? I hate him for what he's done to me. But the longer I'm trapped with him, the harder it is to cling to that hatred. He is an enigma of a man, one who is shockingly arrogant, sweetly contrite, and frighteningly aggressive by turns. And the pain in his eyes is a mirror for my own. The longer I remain in his grip, the more confused I become. Is my freedom worth betraying him?

Book Passage to the Center

Download or read book Passage to the Center written by Daniel Tobin and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-10-21 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, author of nine collections of poetry and three volumes of influential essays, is regarded by many as the greatest Irish poet since Yeats. Passage to the Center is the most comprehensive critical treatment to date on Heaney's poetry and the first to study Heaney's body of work up to Seeing Things and The Spirit Level. It is also the first to examine the poems from the perspective of religion, one of Heaney's guiding preoccupations. According to Tobin, the growth of Heaney's poetry may be charted through the recurrent figure of "the center," a key image in the relationship that evolved over time between the poet and his inherited place, an evolution that involved the continual re-evaluation and re-vision of imaginative boundaries. In a way that previous studies have not, Tobin's work examines Heaney's poetry in the context of modernist and postmodernist concerns about the desacralizing of civilization and provides a challenging engagement with the work of a living master.

Nearly three months have passed since the assassination of Ikaro Tachi, but for some, the incident has had a lasting effect. Years of trust and reliance have been compromised. Betrayal and secrets have created wounds that may never fully heal. Ziva Payvan is no stranger to the concept of keeping—and uncovering—secrets. But when she swore to fulfill the final wishes of a dying friend, she never expected that task to include exposing one of the biggest and longest-kept secrets in the galaxy. A new threat has been looming on the horizon, one nobody ever saw coming. Strategic attacks by the mysterious entity known as Ronan are leaving the Haphezian military stunned and crippled, and a member of Ziva's own squad has been captured. The rest of the team must join forces with old allies and enemies alike in order to reveal the endgame of this new adversary. But the closer Ziva gets to uncovering Ronan's intentions, the closer she comes to jeopardizing a secret of her own, one she has killed to keep. Her choice becomes simple: protect herself as she has always done, or make a personal sacrifice to protect everything she holds dear.

But some residents have secrets, revenge on their minds and a need to set things right in their lives, no matter the cost to others... But sometimes, people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like Melyssa Woodman, she is the woman who has everything, a new boyfriend, lovely job, expensive flat and looking forward to a bright future. Her best friends have gathered on a huge yacht for a weekend of fun and frolics. But there is something else in the water, a gigantic primeval sea creature intent on crashing the party. With the situation becoming more desperate, Melyssa and her friends must try their hardest to survive the night and the aquatic monster. In this collection, there are eight other tales of obsession and injustice, including: The factory worker who has to spend the night searching through a warehouse of fridge freezers to find a terrifying secret inside one of them. And more... From the mind of storyteller Kingsley Pilgrim, 'Humberfield' is a fast paced read. Intriguing and full of suspense and twists. The tales are dark, but not horror, not sci- fi, not supernatural.

As a manual on health and welfare in a similar vein to volumes addressing the sciences of anatomy, behaviour or psychology, this book thoroughly examines the biology of reptile welfare and is about meeting biological needs. The editors, acknowledged experts in their own right, have once again drawn together an extremely impressive international group of contributors. Positive and negative implications of general husbandry and research programs are discussed. In addition to greatly revised original content are nine new chapters offering readers novel insight into: • sensory systems • social behaviour • brain and cognition • controlled deprivation and enrichment • effects of captivity-imposed noise and light disturbance on welfare • spatial and thermal factors• evidential thresholds for species suitability in captivity • record keeping as an aid to captive care • arbitrary husbandry practices and misconceptions The authors have adopted a user-friendly writing style to accommodate a broad readership. Although primarily aimed at academic professionals, this comprehensive volume is fundamentally a biology book that will also inform all involved in captive reptile husbandry. Among others, zoo personnel, herpetologists, veterinarians, lab animal scientists, and expert readers in animal welfare and behavioural studies will benefit from this updated work.

Book Reading Paul Howard

Download or read book Reading Paul Howard written by Eugene O'Brien and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading Paul Howard: The Art of Ross O’Carroll Kelly offers a thorough examination of narrative devices, satirical modes, cultural context and humour, in Howard’s texts. The volume argues that his academic critical neglect is due to a classic bifurcation in Irish Studies between high and popular culture, and will use the thought of Pierre Bourdieu, Sigmund Freud, Mikhail Bakhtin and Jacques Derrida to critique this division, building a theoretical platform from which to examine the significance of Howard’s work as an Irish comic and satirical writer. Addressing both the style and the substance of his work, this text locates him in a tradition of Irish satirical writing that dates back to the Gaelic bards, and includes writers like Swift, Wilde, Flann O’Brien and Joyce. Through textual and contextual analysis, this book makes the case for Howard as a significant and original voice in Irish writing, whose fusion of the three traditional types of satire (Horatian, Juvenalian and Menippean), has created a parallel Ireland that shines a satirical light on its real counterpart. As Freud suggests, humour is a way of accessing aspects of the psyche that normative discourses cannot enunciate, and Howard, through the confessional voice of Ross, offers a fictive truth on twenty years of Irish society, a truth that is not accessed by discourse in the public sphere or by what could be termed literary or high cultural fiction.
