Every woman who acts according to her free will for the greater good in her daily routine is a rebel, leading her own revolution. She may be a little girl. She refuses to fit in and blend with the crowd. She dares to be different and break the rules. She is courageous, wise, kind and compassionate. She is a fighter and doesn’t give up on herself easily. Book The Opposite of Spoiled

Download or read book The Opposite of Spoiled written by Ron Lieber and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times Bestseller “We all want to raise children with good values—children who are the opposite of spoiled—yet we often neglect to talk to our children about money. . . . From handling the tooth fairy, to tips on allowance, chores, charity, checking accounts, and part-time jobs, this engaging and important book is a must-read for parents.” — Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project In the spirit of Wendy Mogel’s The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman’s Nurture Shock, New York Times “Your Money” columnist Ron Lieber delivers a taboo-shattering manifesto that explains how talking openly to children about money can help parents raise modest, patient, grounded young adults who are financially wise beyond their years For Ron Lieber, a personal finance columnist and father, good parenting means talking about money with our kids. Children are hyper-aware of money, and they have scores of questions about its nuances. But when parents shy away from the topic, they lose a tremendous opportunity—not just to model the basic financial behaviors that are increasingly important for young adults but also to imprint lessons about what the family truly values. Written in a warm, accessible voice, grounded in real-world experience and stories from families with a range of incomes, The Opposite of Spoiled is both a practical guidebook and a values-based philosophy. The foundation of the book is a detailed blueprint for the best ways to handle the basics: the tooth fairy, allowance, chores, charity, saving, birthdays, holidays, cell phones, checking accounts, clothing, cars, part-time jobs, and college tuition. It identifies a set of traits and virtues that embody the opposite of spoiled, and shares how to embrace the topic of money to help parents raise kids who are more generous and less materialistic. But The Opposite of Spoiled is also a promise to our kids that we will make them better with money than we are. It is for all of the parents who know that honest conversations about money with their curious children can help them become more patient and prudent, but who don’t know how and when to start.

Book A Non Violent Resistance Approach with Children in Distress

Download or read book A Non Violent Resistance Approach with Children in Distress written by Carmelite Avraham-Krehwinkel and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parents, teachers and other professionals often struggle to know how to deal with disruptive, abusive or aggressive behaviour. This book addresses the urgent need for a realistic, practical and effective approach to dealing with severe disruptive behaviour in children and adolescents. Adapting the principles of non-violent resistance originally advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, the book provides de-escalation techniques which empower the adult and unburden the distressed child. The authors outline the theoretical basis upon which the approach was developed, and explain how and why it can be so effective. Case studies demonstrate how the approach can be used to reach more successful places with unhappy and disruptive children of different ages. A separate section for parents provides useful advice on how to take the theoretical material and use it to deal with problematic behaviour in everyday life. As effective as it is original, this approach will empower desperate parents and despairing caregivers by equipping them with hands-on tools to contain, counter and positively direct the aggression and opposition which they face from children in distress.

Book excerpt: Matthew Brennan was a big man, more suited to wrestling bears than sitting a horse. He lived in a valley they called Paradise, with his young, beautiful, dark-haired, fiery wife of Spanish and Irish descent and their young son. High mountains, with only one entrance, surrounded the valley, and that entrance was a small cave with a natural hot springs that supplied the valley with water. Water ran in two directions from the cave, one small stream flowed to the outside world while the other flowed down the center of the first valley to the lake situated against the mountains, where the second leg of the valley branched north. The single entrance cave was guarded by Bitty, an old mans best friend and possibly the largest female grizzly bear in existence. You didnt come calling on the Brennans. As a matter of fact, the entrance to the valley was a well-guarded secret, shared only by the few residents that occupied this paradise. One of those residents was a Cheyenne war chief with an Indian name no one could pronounce. But the literal translation in English would have been Rogue, and that was the handle Brennan hung on his good friend. Brennan had discovered the beautiful valley quite by accident. While wounded and running from those who had shot him, his Appaloosa horse Sob had stumbled through a blizzard to deposit his rider on the soft sand floor of a warm cave, somewhere in Northwestern Colorado. Matthew Brennan was found there by Val, the old self-appointed guardian of the valley, and nursed back to health.

Book excerpt: Who Can Tell Her Story? Deborah Blessing is a German Baptist who has chosen to play a devout Muslim woman in the play Afghanistan. She's in awe of the playwright, a Marine veteran named Jake Abbott, and hero worships the professor for the play's production, Gail Tremont. They're two of the reasons she's standing up to pressure from her community to act in the play. But mostly, it's the character herself. A devout woman of faith who risked her life for some strangers deserved to be played by a woman of faith. Who else could give her voice? This novella continues the story of Gail Tremont and Jake Abbott, following after book 2, The Show Goes On. While the novella isn't necessary to the plot of the trilogy, it offers some steamier romance between the two — and a side-journey into Deborah's story. Second Chance Romances features four women friends (and a few others) who have each other's backs. And really? There's little you can't do if you've got friends like that. You might even take another chance at love.
