Book Roman Provence Rhone Alpes Queue Sheets Route Directions and Maps

Download or read book Roman Provence Rhone Alpes Queue Sheets Route Directions and Maps written by Walter Judson More and published by Walter Judson Moore Imprints. This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geographically, this guidebook focuses on the Roman Provence Region of France of the northern Gard and western Vaucluse Departments, the Drôme Department north and east into the Rhône Alpes, and the southern Ardèche Department. The routes start from three locations: Crest in the Drôme, Vallon-Pont-d’Arc in the Ardèche and Pont du Gard west of Avignon. The Gorges de la Baume & Cirque de Combe Laval route is the outlier due to the staggering beauty of the area. Why this area of France? Not for the industrial Rhône Valley. But, if you wander 20 to 30 kilometers east or west of the Rhône Valley you will find the medieval hilltop villages, deep gorges with rushing rivers, Roman structures and very hospitable people that want to help. 15 routes are mapped in detailed color with elevation profiles and exacting, step-by-step directions (data gathered to the nearest 0.2 km). All circuits are on paved roads, except for 3 kilometers on a partly gravel, partly potholed stretch used to avoid some traffic.

This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has just the waypoints and route maps for the 17 routes used in the guidebook. Between these châteaux and their communities spread through the valleys of the Loire, Cher, Vienne, and Indre Rivières are gently rolling hills and some thick forests. As in much of the rest of France, the Loire Valley has paved bicycle paths separated from auto and truck traffic. Through metropolitan areas, there are painted bicycle lanes, often shared with busses (which seems somewhat irrational to me). As always "I DID IT MY WAY." Thanks Frank. Book The Romans on the Riviera and the Rhone

Download or read book The Romans on the Riviera and the Rhone written by W. H. Bullock Hall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Romans on the Riviera and the Rhone: A Sketch of the Conquest of Liguria and the Roman Province Having enjoyed for the last twelve years the privilege of wintering on the north-western shores of the Mediterranean, I have turned them to account by following up in every direction the tracks left by the Romans on the French and Italian Rivieras. Nor have my explorations been confined to the coast, but have been extended north of the Apennines as far as the Po in Italy, and in France have included the seldom-visited valleys of the Durance and the Drome. It is in the hope of throwing some light of local colouring on to an obscure field of Roman history, that I am tempted to offer this sketch to the public. For mainly owing to the irreparable loss of the books of Livy's history treating of the conquest of Provence (the Roman Provincia), we are left very much in the dark on that important episode in Roman history. Nothing but the intimate acquaintance with the locality which the writer possesses has rendered it possible to eke out the slender materials available, for the construction of any kind of bridge over the gap in Roman history between the narratives of Livy and Caesar; and some bridge is indispensable, to connect the broken ends of the two narratives. For Caesars Gallic War, with which the student usually begins his acquaintance with Gaul, is really only the second act of the drama of the Roman conquest of that country.
