Book excerpt: Rolling Dice is the second cool, sexy YA romance from seventeen-year-old Wattpad sensation and author of The Kissing Booth, Beth Reekles. They say that the higher you climb, the harder you fall--and Madison Clarke will do anything to keep her new life from crumbling to pieces. Moving from a small town in Maine to Florida, Madison seizes the opportunity to reinvent herself. In Maine she was a "loser," so when the popular kids at her new school decide to take her under their wing, she jumps at the chance. A hot boyfriend, parties, friends . . . If only there wasn't the slight problem of her friendship with Dwight, a cute, funny but totally nerdy guy in Madison's physics class. She can't deny he's fun to spend time with--when no one else is looking. Running from her past and stumbling through the present, what choices lie ahead for Madison in her new life in Florida? From the author of The Kissing Booth, Beth Reekles captures how much it takes to reinvent yourself and not leave behind your own sense of integrity. Readers will laugh, empathize, and cheer on Madison as she figures out things.

Book excerpt: They said I could not become a filmmaker. They said my screenplays were dull and clumsy with thin characterisation. My plots were predictable and endings lame. They said my directing was uninspired and ideas translated poorly to screen. They said my acting was laughable; scenes that were supposed to be tragic caused ripples of laughter. They said I would never make it and that - even if I did - no one wants horror anymore. They want fantasy. They want drama. Comedy, even has its place in the market. Not horror. It's stale. It is stagnant and done to death. Well, whatever they say, I am bringing horror back to the mainstream. It will be shown on every television station and shared across millions of social networking profiles. I am bringing horror back whether the audience wants it or not and it's going to be extreme...

Book A Single Roll of the Dice

Download or read book A Single Roll of the Dice written by Trita Parsi and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have the diplomatic efforts of the Obama administration toward Iran failed? Was the Bush administration's emphasis on military intervention, refusal to negotiate, and pursuit of regime change a better approach? How can the United States best address the ongoing turmoil in Tehran? This book provides a definitive and comprehensive analysis of the Obama administration's early diplomatic outreach to Iran and discusses the best way to move toward more positive relations between the two discordant states. Trita Parsi, a Middle East foreign policy expert with extensive Capitol Hill and United Nations experience, interviewed 70 high-ranking officials from the U.S., Iran, Europe, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Brazil—including the top American and Iranian negotiators—for this book. Parsi uncovers the previously unknown story of American and Iranian negotiations during Obama's early years as president, the calculations behind the two nations' dealings, and the real reasons for their current stalemate. Contrary to prevailing opinion, Parsi contends that diplomacy has not been fully tried. For various reasons, Obama's diplomacy ended up being a single roll of the dice. It had to work either immediately—or not at all. Persistence and perseverance are keys to any negotiation. Neither Iran nor the U.S. had them in 2009.

Book excerpt: "Rolling the Dice in DC" explains the federal sales game and how it is played in the real world. The market is insider dominated partly out of necessity and partly because procurement rules are outdated. The book is written for managers and sales people, not contract administrators. It describes the day-to-day dogfight of competing and winning in the federal market. Newcomers to the market may be discouraged by some of the topics and truths discussed. Read it if you want to know the good, bad, and the ugly of the federal market, what it takes to enter the market, and the potential returns. The book is not for you if you only want to know how to pick low-hanging federal fruit and whether there is a magic bullet for entering the federal market. The focus is selling, not how to comply with federal red tape and administer federal contracts. The author is the CEO of Fedmarket.com and has more than forty years of experience in selling to the federal market.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the Roll of the Dice short story anthology by the Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Writers of Spokane. Let me tell you a little bit about how this book came about. We all sat there, looking at a four dice; A footprint, a beetle, a lightning bolt, and a tower; chuckling about how we would make a story which included them. That's how this anthology began. Let me explain. I'm happy to say that our little writers' group has been together for about a year now. We've had a good time unintentionally irritating our fellow coffee shop patrons with our banter. We've been critiquing each other's writing and giving support, encouragement, and accountability, as well as having fun! It's been an amazing time and many friendships have been made. This spring, one of our members had the idea that we should publish an anthology of short stories. We decided it would be a great way to give us all some experience with self-publishing. Many writers' groups have done this, but we wanted ours to be different. That's where my dice came in. A few months ago, on a whim, I bought some story dice. Story dice are big clunky dice that come in a set of nine, and have simple pictures that illustrate things to include in a story. Instant inspiration! That fateful afternoon we rolled the dice and agreed to each write a story including these four things; a footprint, a beetle, a tower, and a lightning bolt. I encouraged the group to be as creative and free as they wanted to be when interpreting these symbols. The result is a diverse group of stories from our little group that I'm sure will entertain.
